There are 5 common types of talents,

Burst, these talents are relatively rare but useless. Normally a single target attack with high damage but a long cooldown (cd), e.g. Great Mountain Push, deals (500% x str value) of physical damage at target, creating a knockback + dazed effect, cd 24 hours.

Buff, the most common ones, e.g. increase strength by 50%, increase agility by 50%, increase magic power by 50%. Generally useful and the majority have this type of talent.

Team support, the literal gdo of discovered talents. provides every party member the effect of the talent AND increasing with each active party member, e.g. increase strength of every party member by 50%, with an addition of 10% for every active party member.

Technique, also a top-tier talent type. These ones give you a "technique" like the name says. Basically allows you to perform an enhanced battle skill without taking a skill slot. e.g. every attack you strike will have the option to hit twice, every attack will have the option to apply one random debuff on the opponent, every attack will have the option to release a long-range attack of phantom energy.

Debuff, you're screwed.

-Newbie manual to Awaken II, Lee, 2074 CE

That night, Yel had trouble falling asleep. He was freaking excited for the launch of Awaken II at 9 am the next day. In the end, he just didn't sleep. He stayed up the whole night researching information about Awaken I. On the forum, he found one of his friend's posts, analyzing some newbie tricks for early game. He was a seasoned Awaken I player in this world.

Lee, Yel remembers him. He was one of his original friends in his original world. However, scrolling through these detailed forum posts, Yel doubted if this Lee was the Lee he knew. Organised and precise, Lee's guide filled Yel with hope and confidence for the launch tomorrow.

In the end, Yel's body said no; he managed to get a few hours of sleep before waking up at 6:45 looking like a panda.

He practically rushed to school. As he walked into the gates, he felt something was different — there was barely anyone outside. Quiet and eerie, Yel was confused (and so was the school cat, looking for the usual people who gave her huggies every morning).

He got to class and found it, to his surprise, full of people. Everyone was at school. Yel looked at the time: 8:15. He wasn't late. Which meant everyone else was early.

Then he looked around. Almost instantly he noticed the difference: instead of the normal tables and chairs, there were around 30 virtual reality capsules evenly arranged in the classroom.

Yel went over to his friend, who was standing by a capsule in the right corner of the classroom. He raised his hand in greeting, "Hey Marky," Yel said, "How you doing today?"

Marky was a short fella — around the average height of a girl, he had short black hair and brown eyes that often stared into blank space. He wasn't the relevant sort, so it was by nature that he became Yel's best primary friend.

"Oh… just the usual sort, you know," Marky said in his iconic sloth voice, sounding like he hadn't slept for 5 days (which is probably true). "Awaken's the only thing fuelling me awake right now," He added with a little scoff.

Yel crept his lips up into a little smile, "Awaken's exciting everyone aye, everyone's so early today."

45 more minutes of boring nothingness. Yel thought.

He entered one of the VR capsules. Whoa, even the login interface feels real. Yel was amazed. How did this not require physics?

Registration begins in 13 minutes 28 seconds.

Big bold words floated in the middle of the screen on a background of fantastic high-quality art. In the corner it gave the artist's social media: "@tairitsu.art". No wonder why the art was so good. Yel thought.

Admiring one of his best friends' artworks, 13 minutes flew by. (Yel has a pretty long attention span doesn't he)

Last 30 seconds. Last 20 seconds. Last 10 seconds. 9. 8. 7. 6. 5. 4. 3. 2. 1.

Although it wasn't the final launch, it was still extraordinarily exciting for Yel.

Time Left Until Launch: 29 minutes 15 seconds!

Floods of system messages flash before Yel's eyes, everything was so realistic and dream-like. This was what he had been dreaming about for the last 15 years of his life. Reading web novels every single day, Yel thought he knew about every single plot in the world. He was a "Traveller", and he was excited to receive his plot armour.

For the last 25 minutes, Yel closed his eyes and started ~~daydreaming~~ resting and recovering his missing sleep. He woke to the sound of a countdown beeping.
