In the wilds on the borders of the Glaran kingdom there was a military camp.
There was a group of women with a grey dress covered with a white apron. They wore hats with red circle and white cross in the middle.
These were the newly recruited nurses for the war.
Sarah was in the middle rows on the left side of a stage hall where a female Sergeant was standing on the stage giving a speech.
"All of you nurses have come from far across the country onto the battlefield."
"You have come here to serve your country, by healing the soldiers that fight on the battlefield and protecting their lives during this war. This is a very noble goal which has moved my heart!"
"So your nurse training starts from today onwards. The beasts will be approaching soon and the battle on Kron Border will begin in a few days."
The commanding officer points off the stage to the right side of the hall. There was a table there with over a hundred notebooks all stacked together in a orderly manner.
"Now on the side to my left you will see a table with notebooks on them. These are nursing and surgery techniques for you to learn in the coming weeks."
"We have no teachers to give you, and no practice dummies to use your knowledge on. The kingdom cannot handle that kind of expense when the war is already using everything it can to support the valiant cultivators of our kingdom!"
Some of the nurses cringed when they heard this. What valiant cultivators? You're willing to pay the already rich nobles but leave us with scraps and practically no guidance on life saving skill? We're already in danger and not to mention poor. How is this fair!
Most nurses thought this but none dared to speak it outloud.
They would probably be discharged from their duty for in-subordination leading them to starve to death.
But at the same time most of these trainees didn't really react much to this either. They already knew how the world worked. Being fair is a luxury.
The officer on-stage, soon narrowed his eyes. Looking at all of the nurses on the floor with a solemn gaze.
"But this does not mean the courageous soldiers on the battleground have to die by your hands because of stupid mistakes!" The commanding officer shouted.
"There will be consequences! Punishments will be handed out for every major mistakes during handling of injuries. You will be whipped 20 times for every major mistake during treatments! If the soldier dies then a major punishment will be handed out!"
"This is not a playground for you crying bitches! If you mess up, punishments will be dished out accordingly."
"But there isn't only punishements."
The officer paused for a moment before continuing.
"If you heal 10 people from life threatening injuries then you will be awarded with 100 Granis."
"If you heal 25 people from life threatening injuries then you will awarded with 150 Granis and a promotion into a Lieutenant officer of the Glaran Kingdom!"
"And if you can somehow heal 100 people from life threatening injuries then the kingdom will give you a piece of land and a 1000 Granis to help you live a peaceful life after the war is over."
"So do your best! The kingdom will award you for your efforts."
"You are dismissed!" The commanding officer finally finished his speech while walking off the stage and leaving the stage hall.
"Did you hear that Melissa, we can get our own home if we do well!"
"1000 Granis! Most people don't even earn that much even after a year of work. This is amazing!"
All of the women in the crowd were going wild after that speech, they were whispering to each other as they were fantasizing about their futures after the war. Maybe they can finally live in relative luxury like they imagined when they were young.
Even Sarah was moved of these awards. This was clearly a lot!
But at the same time Sarah knew that the major punishments much be something major.
The punishment for death of patient wasn't mentioned. That could only mean that the kingdom was going to clearly take something valuable from these ladies if they failed.
Sarah had a solemn gaze before she was pushed aside.
She looked over to see who pushed her only to see the women walk towards the table in a frenzy.
Now that she looked properly everyone was starting to rush towards the books trying to get them so they can start studying them in their room.
"Now now, everyone line up! If you do not line up then you will be banned from getting the nursing techniques on the side!" A soldier next to the table shouted.
Immediately all of the women became obedient and started to line up one by one. Going and grabbing the books as if they were on a factory line.
Sarah quickly lined up before the line became to big so she only had to wait ten minutes before she came forward and grabbed a book.
Sarah took the book and immediately started flipping through it to see what was written on it.
The first page she opened up showed the human anatomy, from the intestines all the way to the brain and liver. It showed all of the major organs in the body and it was labeled with arrows pointing towards them and words being written on the end.
"Woah! Is that what's inside our head? Why does it look so gross though?" Sarah grimaced for a moment before continuing reading. She quickly saw a number besides the word.
She read through some of the other organs and saw that some organs had the same number and some didn't.
"55 for galbladder, and 55 for spleen, then 56 for colon? What does that mean?" Sarah thought.
She soon got an idea and started flipping through pages in a frenzy.
She soon came upon page 55 and saw that it had the definitions of the galbladder and spleen. It showed how they worked and where they were in the human body.
"Mmm... interesting. So I can figure out where all of the organs mean in this book, and the numbers besides the name of the organs shows which page number I can figure out the definition." Sarah mused.
She soon flipped through the next page and she saw the bones of the human body.
"Oh! This is much easier to learn." Sarah though after looking at the bone anatomy page.
She had seen Damian break a lot of bones and she was usually the only one to be able to heal them. So she already had some knowledge of how bone's in the human body worked, so this was a good opportunity for her.
She soon read through most of the bone names before she went onto the muscle groups.
"Now this is just childs play. This does bring back good memories." Sarah smiled to herself.
Damian had skinned a lot of people before, and he usually presented them on the entrance of Morrowl. Showcasing his skill in skinning humans alive until they were just left with their muscles.
Sarah always held a certain curiosity towards her brother's work so she sometimes stared at them and saw how they were.
"But they call the butt gluteus maximus. Pfft- hahaha, that's the funniest name I've ever heard!" Sarah laughed as she read the nurse notebook.
She soon reached her dorm where other ladies were also reading the book. Clearly trying to understand the contents of it.
'Wait I I can read!?' Sarah thought after looking at the struggles of her dormmates.
This was surprising in the least. She just read as if it was the most natural thing in the world.
[The host had learnt how to read the common language! This was necessary so the Cultivating Seductress System can actually be usable for the host.] The system answered.
Sarah looked with bewilderment before she screamed excitedly in her heart. She couldn't show her smile right now because of the others in the dorm but she was still happy nonetheless.
This was great! If she can read that means everything is going to be a lot easier from now on. That means she can even trade in the city and be able to enter the libraries in the cities.
This skill was going to come in really handy.
Sarah finally entered the room and all of her dormmates started greeting her.
"Oh hey Sarah!"
"Oh Sarah's here! Come have a seat. We can try and read this thing together."
"Hmph! Not fair. I wanted to read with big sister first!"
All of the women in the dormroom greeted Sarah with a friendly smile. Clearly wanting to be in her presence.
This was the genuine emotions of these women. Commoners aren't adept at scheming as much as the gangs and Nobles in this world.
The commoner people represented the most peaceful aspect of civilisation.
"C'mon girls, no need to argue over this. We can sit in a circle on Emma's bed and try and read this hard ass booke together." Sarah smiled as she strutted in. Quickly motioning with her hands to get everyone on the same bed.
A girl with blond hair was elated as she saw so many of her dormmates come to her bed. She was really excited to learn now with her sisters.
Sarah had made a lot of friends during her travel to this military camp. Usually there was nothing to do so she usually talked to the women and girls walking alongside her. Sooner or later, she became a kind of big sister to the young girls in the group while the older women looked at Sarah as if she was their cute little sister or daughter.
As the group got together Sarah started reading from organs page in the book. Everyone laughed quietly so they didn't wake the soldiers and had a lot of fun as they finished the pages relating to the complete anatomy of the human body.
Sarah laughed as she taught most of the people in her group. Trying to help them learn while at the same time also learning a lot herself.
Sarah enjoyed herself with her dormmates as they slowly went through everything in the first 6 pages before going to sleep.
She was going to try her best and survive. And sooner or later reaching Damian's camp.
She was going to make sure the both of them survived this war.
No matter what they had to survive and grow past this.
Because they still weren't free in this world yet.
Wrote a lot here. Might edit it later since I feel I wrote a lot of unimportant words in this chapter.
Also if you haven't already, consider adding the book to your collections! And if you think it deserves it, then consider sending a powerstone my way as well!
Either way hope you guys enjoyed this chapter. Looke forward to the next one!
Happy Reading!
