Chapter 10
Demitria Frostine
“I hope that those who will be participating in tomorrow's battle are fully prepared. You will be representing yourself in front of all the people in our Kingdom. For today’s schedule, I want every one of you to have a resting day, training your skills, and focusing on your weaknesses.”
I was anxious while the Headmaster was giving his speech in front. All of the students and trainers were all present today since this will be the last day we have before the Battle between elements.
There will be two types of battle. The first one was the Battle between elements. This will be a fight against ninety-nine other players. There will only be 100 students inside the battleground.
The only rule was to eliminate as much as you can and those who have the highest points will be moving on to the second round which is the Battle of the best.
The Battle of the best will only be needing 10 students with the highest points. The game will be between two students and whoever wins within the given time will wait for its next opponent. The final score will be determined by the council using a scoreboard. Skills will have 40 percent of the total points; power will have 50 percent and tactics will have the remaining points which are 10 percent of the final score.
“Are you ready for tomorrow's battle?” The headmaster asked like I was a regular student here. I was only trained by Lorcan for three freaking days, What did he expect me to become with only three days of training?
“I want to be honest. I will not be surviving that shit tomorrow.” I said casually because no one can hear us. His office was located at the top part of the kingdom and not everyone is welcomed here.
“Silly, I trust you Demitria. I know you will survive.” He said without even glancing at me. He was busy with different types of paper. Signing them endlessly but can still talk to me.
“This will be my last day alive. Can I leave the academy now and find River?” I said.
I was doubting myself. I know that there is a possibility of me dying on the battlefield. I went to the academy believing that I could get help but I was forced to join that damn battle.
“I was looking for him Demitria. My team was still looking at where they were all hiding. I have hints but they weren’t enough.”
“Y-you were looking f-for my b-Brother?” I asked.
“I wanted to help you in looking for him while you’re enhancing your abilities inside the academy. Something was telling me that River is alive and he is still out there.”
“I miss him so much… I wanted to show him that I was now inside the academy that I used to look from afar.”
“Now, focus on training and enhancing your skills and abilities. Fight for your life and as well as fight for your brother. Ranking as one of the best ten students will be the only reason they can accept you as a student here.”
I sat on the edge of my huge bed, thinking about where should I start. My goal now is to survived until I reach the second round. The headmaster said that being part of it will be the only reason the council could accept me.
“What are you doing here, you should focus on practicing what I have taught you.”
“Why are you here?! How did you-”
“First of all the element barrier is off and we can freely use our elements today. No limitations. Secondly, Father asked me to help you with your training.”
He said but before I could answer, he held my hand and pulled me towards his portal. I felt another slight pull and when I opened my eyes, We were in the middle of nowhere.
I looked at him and glared at him. He slightly laugh and runs towards the river. I followed him and was fascinated with the view. The falls, the flowers, the birds, everything was beautiful. It was enough to satisfy me.
“Do you know what this place holds?” He suddenly asked me.
“I never been in a place like this nor heard about this.”
“This place is where the war happened 20 years ago. The war includes the shadow clan against all the kingdoms. This is where my brother died. My parents decided to forbid everyone from entering this place to honor everyone who died. Until trees and flowers started growing here. Birds start to migrate here. Water started to flow.”
“It was chaos, Isn’t it?”
“It was.” He said and a ball of light started to form on his hands.
The next thing I know I was already on the ground, lying on my back. The ball of light hit the tree at my back since I was able to dodge his sudden attack.
“Stand up! Your opponent will not wait for you to regain your energy.”
His expressions immediately shifted from peaceful and calm to chaotic and cold. He was so ready to execute his power on his enemy.
I started focusing on myself and I felt the same sensation that my ice brings. It was cold yet too hot to handle as it passes through my veins. I felt the smoky ice on my palms and releases three daggers towards Lorcan.
I run towards him as fast as I could to strike the last dagger on my hand. I was about to hit him when he jumped so high and unleashes his double-bladed axe.
He held the ax tightly and was about to strike it at me so I slide down to dodge it he was caught off guard so when he landed, he looked at me. I almost fell when I saw his eye color changes from black it turns into white with a touch of golden yellow.
Lorcan’s eyebrow furrowed as he looks at me and put his axe on his back.
How the hell did he carry such a huge axe plus it was double bladed?!
No doubt, Lorcan was the top-performing student. What else can he do? I didn’t even know that he can summon such a huge weapon.
“Your reflexes are getting better but can you see me with this?” He smirked and suddenly become a cloud of smoke and disappear right in front of my eyes.
I was lost for a moment trying to distinguish what ability did he do. I know that it was a plus ability that he had learned during his stay in the academy.
I was pushed against a huge wall behind me. The impact was really strong that made the wall cracked a bit. Lorcan was strangling me and he pulled me up using his one hand.
I was gasping for air. His grip was strong enough to kill me yet I know he was holding on to his power. He was not using all of his strength. Maybe he knew that he could me as soon as he pushed himself towards his limit.
As I was gasping and trying to release myself from his hands, I held his wrist with my left hand and freeze it until I felt that his grip on my neck loosens.
As soon as I was released, I tried to summon a dagger but I was so confused when a bow and an arrow appeared on my both hands. I didn’t know how to use this so I have no choice but to run until I could think of another way to get through him.
“Stupid move, Demi.” I stopped when Lorcan suddenly appeared in front of me, wearing his deadly smirk and his snowy eyes.
I sprang away when he suddenly struck the double-bladed axe to the ground and formed a great slice in the ground. My back hit the ground again and the next thing I know Lorcan was in the air, ready to strike his axe again.
Anger starts to reign in my body for no reason. I don’t want to lose this way but being on the battlefield with Lorcan makes me realize that I am nothing.
I closed my eyes and felt a ranging sensation, when I opened my eyes Lorcan was already in the ground covered by snow and the forest was covered with sastruga. I felt cold but I felt so strong, my hand was covered with snowflakes and my wounds were all gone.
“Lorcan!”
“I’m here.” I looked at his position and almost laugh when he suddenly rose from the ground and all the snow that enveloped his body fell. He stands up and as he approached me, he was rubbing his body to remove the remaining snow on his uniform.
“That was…Crazy.” He said.
