Chapter Eleven

Chapter 11

Demitria Frostine

“Welcome to the yearly battle of the elements!” Everyone was cheering and the players are all getting ready for the battle.

All of them were busy preparing while I was just sitting on my assigned seat as I watched them laughing with their friends. I still do not know what was about to happen. I have never learned that there was a field game inside the academy. It was too confidential to be released to the public.

“Are you okay?” Camellia sat on the chair beside me. I wasn’t sure of what am I feeling now but my hands are shaking and my breathing is getting heavy.

I let out a huge sigh. Camellia smiled at me and held my hand.

“Hey, It’s fine. Your goal is to defeat a lot of players for you to be in the next round. I trust you on this Demi, I know you can do this.” Camellia added and smiled at me again.

“This one is for you.” She said as she handed me a purple flower.

“Where did you get this?” I asked, looking amazed by the flower.

“I produce it out of my element.” She smiled and look at the flower.

“They call that flower as sword lily but it is also known as gladiolus flower. My mom always has this in our house because she said, It represents calmness.” She exclaimed.

It was indeed a flower of calmness. It made me feel better afterward.

“Players, Please proceed to your respective tubes. The battle begins in 10 minutes.” I heard the announcer said.

Everybody was busy in the past days, trying to prepare everything before this day come. For the academy, this is an important event, Well, of course, They will be putting their students inside a battlefield and watch them killing each other.

“Hey, are you ready?” Lorcan asked me when we met in the hallway going to our tubes.

“I guess so?” I said.

I stopped walking as soon as I reached my tube and went inside but before my tube’s door closes, Lorcan held it and looked at me. His black eyes were calm and his purple wavy hair was swaying. He looks good in two different eye colors I thought.

He didn’t speak yet so we had to look at each other’s eye as silence reigns between us, seems like no one was around us.

“Demi…”

“Hmm?”

“Do everything you can… to survive.” He said and let go of the doors.

I didn’t get the chance to answer because he left me there, inside my tube, hanging.

Yes, Lorcan, I will.

“All players must be on their respective tubes, The battle begins in…

After the countdown, I heard the loud sound of a horn that means that all of our tubes will now be released on the battlefield. The moment that our feet will touch the ground, It’s no mercy for everyone.

Camellia and Craig told me that players who don’t want to give up, ends up dying in the game, so if you do not want to die, raise your white flag and give your points to whoever defeated you.

Players have two- colored flag inside the field, the color depends on what element each player is. Meaning, if a player is using the fire element, its flag is color red, while water users are mint green, air users are gold, earth users are brown while thunder users are purple, light users are orange while energy users are orange and the ice users are blue.

This battle is one versus ninety-nine people. I have to collect flags as much as I can but I need to protect my flag too. As soon as I stepped on the ground, I was pulled by a lasso towards a girl wearing a mint green uniform. She is a water user.

Her lasso was so tight that all I can do was to use my feet to slow down her pull. Everyone was fighting around us and I will never let this girl defeat me this early.

With enough force, I pulled her towards me, and the lasso loosens up a bit. I held the lasso and twisted it in her body. She was lying on her knees but she looked at me and smirked. Suddenly, she became a liquid and changed her size to release her body from the lasso.

She went straight to my back and returned to her original body. She took the chance to used her staff. She grabbed the metal staff at both ends at started choking me.

I held the metal staff with both of my hands, trying to escape. I heard her laughing as I was gasping for air.

“Weakling.” She whispered in my ear.

“Try me,” I said and raised my right knee and then rolled my body out of the metal staff. But as I turn my body, I took the chance to get her flag out of her uniform.

When I got my posture back, I let her see that I was already holding her mint green flag and as soon as she was aware of her losing her flag, two guards appeared on her side and they all disappear at the same time.

I got one, now I need more.

“Hey bi*ch!” I heard someone shouted at my back.

I looked at her because I know that she was calling me only to see her crossing her arms on her chest. Her uniform has stains of blood and her hand as well. The only thing I was sure of now was that this one was brutal and she already got two flags on her uniform.

She was furiously staring at me and giving away her smirk. Her red eyes say it all. Unexpectedly, she runs swiftly in my direction while her hands were on fire, forming a huge blazing ball.

Without me knowing, my hand automatically moved and splashes snow on the ground. I haven’t tried this tactic before so I was waiting for what it can do.

I felt astounded as those tiny fragments of snow turns into sharp snow crystals. The crystals surrounded me as if it was protecting me from enemies.

“Do you think you can hide from me?” I was astounded when I felt a cut on my back. It was too hot that I thought my body was burning. I fell to the ground as I felt the sting on my back. I can even hear a hissing sound as my body was still containing the pain.

“You’re too weak to be included in this kind of battle. Why did you ever push yourself to enter the academy?” She said as she knelt in front of me.

I just needed time to freeze the founds and it’s taking me longer since it was longer than my other wounds. I also wanted her to come near me so I can easily get the flag on her uniform.

I was already feeling better but I acted that I was still in pain, hoping that she would come near me and kneel. An enemy like this girl was too obvious. Her moves were predictable. This was all part of my plan. The tactic she used to enter my sharp ice crystals, the lengthly wound she made on my back, and the way she knelt were all predicted by me.

“Gave u-”

“Say no more,” I said and touched her feet and my ice started to travel from my hand through her legs. She was stuck and can’t even make herself stand. I easily took all of her captured flags and put them on mine.

The rule is when you defeated an enemy with captured flags, the points will be transferred to you. Defeating her gave me three more flags. I walked away from our position when the guards appeared again and took her.

My goal was to get flags as much as I can without even hurting anyone although I know that it cannot be prevented. They will attack me so I have to protect myself. I didn’t want to put blood on my hands so I was trying not to kill anyone on this battlefield.

I climbed the nearest and safest tree to hide. I was tired of walking and fighting. After the girl from the fire element, I had to face another two opponents. One from the light element and the other one was from the energy element.

Now I got a total of fifteen flags. The light user has four captured flags and the energy user has six captured flags. The energy guy made me this tired. He was too strong that I thought I was about to get defeated.

I felt scared during our fight. But River was going back and forth through my mind. His smile flashes back so I had to fight back and turn the tables. In the end, I won but I almost lost all my strength so I had to hide myself to take a rest.

This battle will not end in one day.
