Chapter 1: Twist

"So you're saying there's supernatural factors regarding the case?" Asked the Deputy Chief.

"Yes sir." Kevin nodded.

"Well i suppose that's enough of a reason. Rest easy, i will hand this case to the investigation team." Assured the Deputy Chief, arranging a stack of paper before putting it elsewhere.

Immediately, Kevin pulled up the case containing the hieroglyph, his hand firm as he placed it on the table.

"Sir, this is the key item that made the victim went mad. It is a hieroglyph of ancient origins that the victim had studied." Said Kevin. "I also suspect that reading the ancient text inside it was what caused him to go insane, considering it is if of ancient language." Kevin stated again.

"An artifact..?" Mumbled the deputy chief.

Artifact? Aren't those classified items held by the government or religions?

"Unfortunately, i could not dechiper the ancient text. Doing so would not have done me any good either anyways." Said Kevin. He then went on to describe the ancient carvings in it, before opening it to show to the deputy chief.

"This is rather classified. Well then, thank you for retrieving this artifact. Before sending you off, you should visit this adress and get yourself checked for any evils lingering around.."

...

Is this really necessary? I don't feel anything bad at all.. well, better safe than not.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

Light footsteps sounded as it approached the door. The door opens to reveal a tall women, at least in female standard. Her silky black hair were tied to a ponytail which reached up to her mid-torso. Her eyes were applied with heavy eyeshadow which contrasts her green eyes.

Is she trying to look like a seer? Because if she is, she kind of nailed it..

"Deputy Chief sent you?" Asked the woman.

Kevin nodded. The woman then escorted Kevin inside towards a coffee table with chairs opposite to each other.

Looking around, Kevin noticed that her house was rather odd in taste. It smelled of various items and fragrances such as wood, candle wax and strong oil..

Kevin's gaze returned to the woman again, and she had a set of tarot cards in her hand now.

Tarot cards? Does she plan on reading me with tarot cards?

The woman placed the tarot cards towards the edge of the table. She then placed various candles all throughout the room in a circular manner before lighting them up, filling the room with a somewhat calm atmosphere of the fragrances.

After the woman finished, she handed kevin the set of tarot cards. "Shuffle the tarot cards. Focus about your question in your mind while doing so."

Kevin shuffled the tarot cards all while thinking about his question inside his mind.

Is there anything negative lingering around myself?

After Kevin finished, he handed the set of tarot cards back to the woman. The woman then drew a two card spread across the table.

Upon finishing, she turned over the cards one by one. The first card was a picture depicting an angel pouring water from one cup to another.

"The Temperance." Stated the woman.

The second one was a picture depicting a woman with a crown. She was raising a wand or some sort.

"The Empress." Stated the woman again.

"Fortunately for you Kevin, there are no evil lingering around you. You shall rest easy." The woman answered, as Kevin's eyebrow raised in surprise as he had not told this woman his name.

..How.. Nevermind, she's a seer after all.

"Well then, thank you for your service.. seer lady. I'll have to get going now." Thanked Kevin, tidying his attire before standing up.

"Seer lady? That is rather distasteful. I have a name you know? It's Luna, Ms.Luna for you." Replied Luna, an eyebrow raised.

"Apologies then, Ms.Luna."

...

Kevin walked through the busy streets, his mind thinking about what to have for lunch today.

A beef stew maybe? With a side of root beer.

Suddenly, something caught Kevin's eye. It wasn't something familiar, but It was as if it's calling for him. He looked to his side to see a merchant store. It looked pretty shady, but he suddenly had the urge to take a look.

"Welcome sir. Is there anything that interests you?" Asked the merchant in charge, a hoodie covering most of his facial features.

Kevin looked around. Everything looked boring and uninteresting, though there were a few amulets and charms that was worth acknowledging.

His eyes settled on a golden shimmer at the edge of the list of items.

A ring! A beautiful one at that..

"Does that ring pique your interest sir? It is a ring i found while traveling from another city to this one. I thought it had any worth, but it was not even gold despite looking like one! I checked with a pawnshop already." Stated the merchant, sighing.

"How much?" Asked Kevin without hesitation. Kevin felt that he would regret his decision if he did not buy the ring.

"Ahaha.. seeing as you are a police officer, i suppose a discount would be more or less deserving! How about 50 silver then? That's a 50% discount." The merchant replied.

50 silver? That's pretty damn expensive! half a gold coin.. well, no matter i guess. I don't want to regret anything.

"Deal."

Upon finishing his purchase, Kevin went ahead and bought the necessary ingredients for the beef stew and root beer.

He then feasted for the entire night because of his hunger, satisfied for the day and looking forward for the day to come.

...

"Me? The investigation team..?" Said Kevin with evident surprise.

"Yes. You'll have to fill in the empty spot since one of the members died." Nodded the chief deputy.

Why are you saying that so casually!? What the.. why me anyways? Is it because of my experience with the supernaturals?

"Orders are orders. Now go to room 215 to the right outside this office to greet your new mates. I'll have you all investigate the Ben case together as it seems."

Well.. pay raise at least!

The pacing is a little slow. sorry!
