The video cut out, leaving behind a screen filled with buzzing static.
A dark cloud had cast itself over the stadium during the shown footage, drowning the arena in shade beneath its thick form.
The audience in the stands, once cheering and roaring with delight, was now as quiet as it has been since the beginning of the festival.
The heroes, who were before trying to break through the barrier around the ring, trying to come to the bomb boy's aid, stared up at the fizzing monitor with dropped jaws and wide, unblinking eyes.
Shock and horror reigned over all who had seen the footage, including those across the nation, who had tuned in to watch the spectacle of up-and-coming heroes from their homes.
Toshinori, Inko, Mitsuki and Masaru, Ochako, the rest of 1-A, as well as Gentle Criminal, La Brava, Kendo Rappa, and Giran were all stunned into silence by the disturbing images that had played before their eyes.
But no one was has stricken or as horrified as Katsuki Bakugo himself.
His previous feeling of superiority and greatness had slowly diminished when nearly every awful thing he ever did to the Quirkless loser he loved to diminish was put on display for all to see.
The colour had drained from his face.
His eyes were blank and emotionless.
His lips once curled up into a superior, predatory grin, had fallen and shrunk into a small, quivering slit.
The static taking up a few of the surrounding monitors suddenly cut out, returning to the live recording of the Sports Festival.
The cameras were zoomed in on the ring, capturing Bakugo in his petrified state, yet the explosion boy didn't seem to notice.
The rest replayed the incriminating footage from the start, with little Izuku playing All Might once again.
The proud, arrogant, explosion user, who loved to parade his self-assured dominance, was stuck in complete and utter shock.
...Until a fist came flying into his face.
The bomb boy went flying off his feet, soaring across the ring until he skidded across the tiles and rolled to a stop.
The crowd reacted in surprise to the sudden attack, coming out of their stupor as they leapt out of their seats and up on their feet.
Bakugo growled as he brought a hand to his now aching cheek.
He turned to face the one who sucker-punched him, his eyes landing on the Green Rabbit.
The long-eared villain was back on his feet, looking as if he didn't just get hit by a dozen fiery blasts head-on.
The only thing that showed any sign of damage on him was his signature dark green hoodie, which was torn and scorched by the bomb boy's relentless attacks before.
The Rabbit shook his right hand, the one he used to knock Bakugo down, then took a look at his ruined threads.
Sighing through his voice-altering mouthpiece, he raised his hands and started to unzip his large tattered rag of a sweater.
Reaching the bottom, he slid the piece off and held it up before him, inspecting the damage with an inquisitive eye behind his visor.
"Hmm...they kinda do look like bunny ears." He noted the long lengths of cloth stitched to the hood with a tilt of his head, before disregarding the hoodie entirely as he tossed it to the ground.
Katsuki watched the ruined fabric fall to the floor and was able to see the inner lining of the hoodie stuffed to the brim in its insides.
His hoodie must have been fitted with a bomb defuser's worth of armour and padding.
It was no wonder the Rabbit was able to survive his attacks, let alone get back up and sock him when he wasn't looking.
A feeling of dread overcame Bakugo as he realized that the Rabbit had initially planned to face him, prepping himself to handle his quirk beforehand.
He planned this...he planned all of this!
But why?!
Why would someone he barely knows want to ruin him like this?!
The bomb boy's attention was then drawn back to his attacker when the crowd exclaimed their awe at what the villain had been wearing beneath his ruined threads.
Bakugo looked the infamous criminal up and down, taking in his new look with a confused glare.
A crisp white shirt was dressed over the villain's torso, where a dark green tie was tied neatly around his neck.
The tie was tucked beneath a pitch-black waistcoat with polished gold buttons that adorned his chest.
He undid the buttons of his sleeves and rolled them up to his elbows, showing off his thick black gloves with red palm padding on his hands.
A pair of sleek black dress pants covered his legs, with a pair of red sneakers with black soles and laces finishing off at his feet.
No...NO, IT COULDN'T BE!
But what grabbed Katsuki's attention the most about the villain's newly revealed look, was the frighteningly familiar mess of wild, unruly green hair growing out of the top of his head.
It couldn't be him! NOT HIM! That was impossible!
His fears only increased as the Rabbit removed his goggles, revealing a pair of emerald green eyes that almost looked like they were glowing under the shadow of the dark clouds above.
He's just was a WEAK, QUIRKLESS NOBODY! There's no way he could...THAT HE COULD ACTUALLY BE...!
The Rabbit reached up to remove his mouthpiece...
And for the second time that day, Katsuki Bakugo's world shattered.
Deku stared back into his old tormentor's face with a narrowed glare.
Cameras circling the ring tried to get a glimpse of the green-haired youth's revealed face, his image appearing on the jumbo screens in the arena.
Deku reached for his lowered mouthpiece, pressing a button on its side, making it light up around its framing with neon green.
Down in the processor room, one of the flash drives connected to the audio drive lit up with the same colour.
The Quirkless boy took in the sight of Bakugo's trembling eyes and gaping mouth.
He continued to look down at his former best friend's crumpled form and pale face for a while longer...
And then let an enormous, gleeful Cheshire grin split across his face.
"Hi, Kaachan."
------------------------------
The audience recoiled in fright at the sight of Deku's demented grin appearing on the surrounding big screens, his voice coming in loud and clear through the speakers.
Viewers at home were tempted to change the channel so they didn't have to look at that insane smile but were too engrossed in what was happening to do so.
Toshinori felt what strength he had been saving for the award ceremony leave him.
He collapsed onto the railing before him, holding himself up by his withered arms as his sunken eyes shivered at the dreadful display before him.
It was him...the one he had been looking for all this time! The one he lost on that fateful day!
The one who showed him that the spirit of a hero was still alive! The one who asked him...begged him...if it was at all possible to be a hero in this world, even without a quirk!
...And he was now a villain.
He gripped his shrivelled hands tight, grief and guilt filling his chest to the brim.
"No...!"
------------------------------
"Izuku...!"
Inko had prayed to whoever would listen to her to bring her baby home. To let her see him again, even for one last time.
She hoped that the authorities would arrive at her door, along with her long lost son.
She imagined wrapping her arms around him the next chance she'd see him again, promising that she would support whatever he wished to do in his life, even becoming a hero.
And now here he was...revealing himself to be the most infamous criminal in the last year, proving her hopes and fears to be right.
She held her hands to her trembling lips, trying and failing to keep her tears from falling from her eyes.
"Oh, my gosh..." The distraught mother turned to face Mitsuki, who spoke on behalf of herself and her stunned husband, who was more silent than he had ever been since the day they were married and had their temperamental son.
It seemed that the glycerin woman had no clue as to the tirade of abuse their boy had inflicted on hers.
Then again...neither did she.
Inko turned back to the ring, keeping her wet, trembling eyes on her now scary-looking son.
------------------------------
Ochako mirrored the mortified mother, as she held her hands over her gaping mouth.
Seeing that evil grin plastered on the face of the boy who seemed too bashful to show his face, rocked the gravity girl to her core. "U-Usagi...?"
------------------------------
Gentle remembered the first he met young Deku. How they offered their help to train him, and the vicious smile he hid to himself when he accepted.
Now it was back, for all the world to see, and that feeling of dread he felt the first time he saw the maniacal grin had returned with it. "My word..."
La Brava couldn't stop shedding tears as she stared up at the big screen.
She had an inkling that the boy was victim to the same kind of treatment she suffered back in her own school life, but this...this was just...evil.
The smile on his showed how much of a disastrous effect the abuse had on him.
He looked insane...depraved...sadistic.
But La Brava had had her own fair share of mistreatment of others before.
And it helped her to see the pain and sadness hidden in the glimmering green eyes of the young villain she and her beloved befriended.
"Deku...!"
