Beginning of The End

An hour ago, Esme, Blink, Kitty, and the three of them were preparing to go to a Mutant placement center to rescue. After countless cooperation's, they had become very harmonious, and the whole process was going very smoothly.

However, just as Blink was about to open the portal to take people away, a Sentinel appeared. It was a steel body standing at least five meters tall, with the ability to fly, incredible speed, and the capability to detect Mutants. It possessed several attack abilities such as flames, sound waves, and lasers, and had super strong resistance to attacking abilities.

The Sentinel killed most of the Mutants they rescued as soon as it appeared. Even Esme would have almost died without Kitty's help. Her mental abilities were useless against the Sentinel.

Kitty attempted to pass through the Sentinel, as her electricity supply would be temporarily interrupted when passing through charged material. However, she failed. The Sentinel's dense body rendered her abilities ineffective, making it impossible for her to pass through.

In the end, the Mutants were not saved, and they almost didn't make it back.

"It's terrible. This kind of Sentinel is a killing machine designed to destroy Mutants. Few Mutants can escape," Kitty couldn't help but say.

Seeing the lingering fears of Kitty and the others, Max shook his head and said, "This is not the most terrible."

"Isn't this the most terrible?" Even Esme was taken aback.

Max explained, "The place you went to was probably just one of many Mutant placement centers. It's not an important location. But you encountered a Sentinel. What does this mean?"

"It means that Sentinels have begun mass production and are now in use."

"Dealing with one or two may be possible, but what about thousands? Hundreds of thousands? Millions?"

Thinking about that scenario, everyone shuddered.

Although knowing this would make them even more desperate, Max continued to pour cold water on the situation. "You mentioned that Sentinels have many attack methods, but in the future, they will have even more. They will be able to copy Mutant abilities and use them against Mutants. They will adapt their attacks according to different enemies. Sentinels will only become stronger. There may even be self-repairing Sentinels."

"The end has begun, and this is just the beginning."

"Oh my God!"

"Are Mutants really going to die?" Lauren's voice quivered with concern.

"Almost," Yukio confirmed grimly.

"Quick, turn up the volume," he urged, pointing to the TV where news about the Sentinels was being broadcast. The government showcased the Sentinels' power and their determination to eradicate Mutants.

"Every Mutant must register? Those who don't will be hunted down as fugitives," Lauren exclaimed, her distress evident.

"Who knows what registering will lead to? Mutants will resist, and they'll be justified in annihilating us. It's a massacre," Yukio remarked bitterly.

As the weight of the news settled in, a deathly silence enveloped the room. Despair hung heavy in the air as they grappled with the overwhelming reality.

"Why hasn't Professor X intervened yet?" Kitty couldn't help but voice her frustration.

Max shook his head, his expression somber. "Even if he does, it might not make a difference. If the Sentinel project hasn't been completed, there might have been a chance. But now? It's too late."

"We need to focus on saving Phoebe and Sophie while there's still a chance," Max directed, shifting their attention to action.

Their previous mission to infiltrate and locate the concentration camp to thwart the Sentinel project now seemed futile. The rapid deployment of the Sentinel program indicated its successful development and mass production, far ahead of schedule compared to the events depicted in the movies—by at least a decade or two.

"And then what?" Blink interjected, seeking clarity on their next steps.

"Wait," Max replied simply.

"Wait for the successful development of The Multiverse Portal," he added, a glimmer of hope amidst the despair.

Without hesitation, the three swiftly mobilized to rescue those in danger. Lorna quickly coordinated efforts, aware of the urgency to evade Sentinel detection and keep their allies safe.

The Sentinel plan is differed from the Hound Plan. While the Hound Plan was kept entirely confidential, Sentinels had long been in use by the Sentinel Secret Service. Despite the different models, public acceptance of Sentinels was high.

The success of Sentinel attacks significantly bolstered anti-Mutant sentiments, gaining momentum. The most concerning aspect was that previous hiding methods for Mutants became ineffective. Sentinels could detect Mutants no matter the hiding place or tricks used.

Their only advantage was the ability to prepare early and delay Sentinel discovery as much as possible.

Fortunately, the safe house remained Sentinel-free, allowing them to rescue Mutants smoothly. They returned with Sophie and Phoebe that night.

As the night deepened, although sleep eluded them, they retreated to their rooms for some rest.

News about Sentinels dominated the headlines early the next morning. The Sentinel plan was officially underway, with Sentinels deployed to search for Mutants 24/7. Simultaneously, there were public announcements urging Mutants to register promptly or face the consequences.

A knock echoed through the room, but Max, engrossed in studying Abilities, didn't pause, calling the person in.

Esme entered with breakfast.

"In the future, you should avoid wearing the same color and style clothes to distinguish who you are," Max advised.

"We are a Trinity; we don't need to distinguish ourselves – treat us as one person," Esme responded with a smile, assisting Max with breakfast. Yet, she lingered as if there was something more to discuss.
