Chapter 15: The Honest Captain America
Despite its touted importance, the Super Soldier Project was not taken seriously. If it were, there wouldn't be a need to scramble for funds, begging for contributions. If the wealthy Howard Stark were willing to finance it, the project might have made more progress.
In the end, all the generators used in the experiment were taken away, as evidenced by the need to borrow city power.
In contrast, the Manhattan Project is a true monumental endeavor, one that could determine the outcome of the war.
"Don't worry about it; there's still more than a year to go."
Miss System interrupted Thor's thoughts.
Thor shook his head: "No, that project has nothing to do with me."
As the premier nuclear weapon on Earth, it's actually quite basic on a universal scale. It can't be useless, but it definitely doesn't reach the level of nuclear deterrence against alien civilizations.
And it's just basic nuclear fission...
If it were something more advanced, perhaps Thor would be interested. After all, the principle behind it is somewhat similar to the power of a Star.
In the original storyline, didn't Thor resist the energy of a Neutron Star, and defeat the old villain Thanos with a single axe strike?
"Uncertain."
…
"Steve, I know you're tired of performing day in and day out. You're eager to be on the battlefield and fight for what you believe in!"
Without Peggy around, Thor had to play the role of life mentor himself.
There was no other choice. Without such an opportunity, it's likely that the Internet celebrity Captain America would remain just that for his entire life...
It doesn't seem so bad for Captain America; after all, Internet celebrities do make money these days, don't they?
The problem is that without this rescue operation, the Howling Commandos might disappear from history, and I'd never complete the novice mission to start the system...
One must endure the system's contempt...
Why have I tolerated my harsh words for so long? Not for the system! The system! The system!
"You just need an opportunity, a chance to truly prove yourself! Show everyone that you belong on the stage of real war, not just performing in front of an audience dressed like Mickey Mouse!"
Captain America suddenly felt a surge of frustration...
However, he still seemed unmoved.
After all, Steve is an honest man, and under normal circumstances, it would be impossible for him to do something that violates orders, let alone a grand gesture of "fighting for the country."
Seeing that Steve remained unmoved, Thor had no choice but to make a decisive move: "Bucky is missing."
"What???!!!"
Captain America stood up suddenly, gripping Thor's shoulders with both hands, and demanded: "Tell me, what happened?"
Well, on second thought, Captain America is not completely honest.
After all, the guy who faked his ID to join military, who shouted "Hail HYDRA" without hesitation, and who knew about Bucky but ignored public opinion...
How could he be an honest person?
Thor silently shrugged off Steve's hands and said seriously: "Last night, Red Skull Schmidt's forces attacked Azano Village. Two hundred soldiers went into battle, and fewer than fifty returned. Bucky is among the missing, and that's how I got the news."
He added grimly: "If you don't act soon, I'm afraid he'll soon be moved from the missing list to the killed list."
Steve no longer cared about anything else and rushed out...
"You're making a mess of things again!"
A cold female voice interrupted, and Peggy Carter appeared at the tent's entrance, looking pale.
After Thor's confrontation with her, although Peggy Carter was skeptical, she chose not to investigate further or spread the information.
It's not that she was worried Thor would be in trouble; after all, such trivial plots involving second-generation gods passing through Earth aren't typically written this way.
If she had reported it truthfully, she might have been dissected and her brain examined...
