Lin An excused himself to make the opening speech for his party. As he walked up to grab the microphone, Lin Yao Yao wanted to talk with Lily alone. She purposely shooed Lin Que away to help them get some food. Facing her son's worried expression, she felt helpless.
"Stop turning back every few steps. I'm not going to eat her. By the time you come back with food, we will be starved to bones already." Yao Yao waved at Lin Que with twitching lips. 'Who did he take after? Must have taken after hubby.'
Ginny and Toby spotted some familiar faces earlier and decided to do some catching up. Meanwhile, Lucas followed Lin Que to grab drinks and food for them. Without further disturbances, Yao Yao could finally relax and talk with Lily.
Since it was her first time meeting his parents, Lily felt nervous to some degrees. "Auntie..."
"Ah! Sorry, sorry. No worries, Lily. I only wanted to talk to you about how my son is treating you. He is very slow like his dad, so don't get mad when he acts like a raw potato. You're his first girlfriend, so he has a lot of learning to do. This son of mine barely speaks about this love life to me. I'm just curious about how you guys are doing."
Sensing Lily's tension, Yao Yao quickly explained herself. She was afraid that she might scare her future daughter-in-law away. It took Lin Que forever to get a girl. If she scares her away, who knows how much longer she will have to wait for another girl to show up?
"Lin Que is very nice to me. He's very attentive and caring. Even though he tells me that I am his first girlfriend, he seems to be much better at words than I am." Lily blushed as she recalled his flirting lines. Though the words were corny, it was still quite smooth for a beginner like him. 'Is he a natural?' Lily started wondering what kind of luck this man has to be born with such capabilities.
"Haha, then I can relax after hearing you say that. If he ever bullies you, feel free to tell me about it. I won't let him off easily. I heard you also recently graduated from college. Do you have any plans for now?" Yao Yao knew little details from Toby when they spoke over the phone about Lily.
"Right now, I am learning from my dad in managing our family business. I was also a part time model and a writer to a certain extent. Basically, I want to explore different fields to see what I am interested in." After talking with Yao Yao for some time, Lily felt very comfortable around her. Just like how she would talk with her mother, she felt ease when speaking to Yao Yao.
"I agree with exploring when you're still young. Back then, it had taken a long while before I accepted my husband's proposal because I didn't want to be tied down. Haha, he had to propose like three times until I gave in to him." Yao Yao shared stories about her husband along with funny childhood stories about Lin Que.
From a distance, Lin Que was holding two plates of fruits and light foods. He took decent proportions from dishes his mother and Lily would eat and waited for the ladies to finish their conversation. A sudden rush of warmth crashed in his heart as he watched how his mother and girlfriend got along.
Lucas carried two glasses of rose champagne. From behind, he saw how compatible the ladies were as they literally chatted in their own bubbly world. "Bro, it looks like you'll have one less trouble in the future."
"What do you mean?" Lin Que asked as he continued smiling at the harmonious scene in front of him.
"Because not many mothers and girlfriends could get along well. Many of my friends were stuck between choosing their mother's side and girlfriend's side. You are so lucky that mother and Lily gets along so well. You should buy the lottery." As Lucas finished his sentence, Lin An walked over to greet his sons.
"Lin Que, Lucas, what are you two doing over here? Why don't you go to sit with your mother?" Staring at the drinks and foods they were holding, Lin An questioned why they didn't settle down to eat. Following their line of sight, Lin An realized what was going on.
"Hahahaha, then wait for a bit. Your mom probably wants to talk with her longer. Let's have our own conversation, then. So, Lin Que, let dad teach you some skills."
Lucas laughed when he heard his dad's words. "Dad, your tricks are old."
"Who are you calling old? What about you, huh? When are you getting a girlfriend?" Lin An knew which topics to touch to make Lucas surrender.
As the father and son conversation continued, an uninvited guest approached. Director Chu interrupted their conversation, "Good evening, CEO Lin. I wish Mister Lin An a prosperous and healthy life. Happy birthday."
Holding an expensive wine bottle, he presented the gift to Lin An. Forcing a smile on his face, Lin An thanked him for his politeness. "Thank you for coming to my party. I'm sorry, but I don't remember your name."
Director Chu hid his displease expression and passed out his business card. He replied, "I am the director of Chu Entertainment. I am here with my friend as a companion."
"Oh, then I hope you have fun tonight." Lin An didn't get a good impression of this man, so he wanted to avoid the man.
"Mister Lin An, I apologize for the inconvenience, but I have a proposal that I want to present to you. Would it be possible for you to spare a few minutes?" Director Chu took out the file with Chu Entertainment's proposal. Seeing the man prepared with the documents, Lin An frowned.
"Director Chu, you should understand I am catering my birthday party, not a meeting. This is not an investment opportunity where you walk in with your proposal to get my attention. If you are here as a guest, then I will ask you to drink and eat to your liking. If you're here to talk about business, then I can only reject you. Please excuse me." Lin An walked away without turning back.
Lucas and Lin Que remained standing in front of Director Chu whose face was now darker than charcoal. Lucas caught the exuberant smile on Lin Que's face. 'Oh no. That smile means trouble. Did this Director Chu annoy him in some way?'
"How about try convincing me with your proposal? Greetings, I am the CEO of Lin Corps." Lin Que said as Director Chu missed the deeper meaning behind his smile.
