It’s been two days since Grey left, the longest two days of my life.
Lily kept me company to keep me from going crazy, all alone in this huge house. But at night when she went to her room to be alone with Ash, I felt like a dove who had lost her true love. The loneliness was soul crushing.
During the day it was easier. I kept busy with chores around the house. This morning I helped her clean the kitchen, and now we were making a list for the grocery store.
“I’ll get lots of ice cream,” she said, making sure I had what she called ‘comfort foods’ on the list. “What flavors do you want?”
I sat down at the table and examined the list.
“Something with chocolate in it,” I replied. “Lily, I’ve been thinking, maybe I shouldn’t have gotten angry with Grey about him talking to Nikki. He was just looking out for me. Since coming to Denhurst I have done things that were reckless. My emotions seemed to rule over my brain.”
