Chapter 32: A Call for Help

When I reached the end of the gravel lane, I had to stop and park the car.

Unable to stop myself from imagining Grey in Nikki’s arms, my pain was unbearable. I cried for several minutes, sobbing until my nose was clogged and my eyes burned.

I found a pack of tissues in the dashboard cubby and tried to dry my eyes. But tears still ran down my cheeks even though my sobbing had stopped.

I checked my image in the vanity mirror and sighed at my swollen eyes and red nose. I wasn’t a pretty crier.

I was using Lily’s comb to smooth back my tangled hair when the sound of a loud crash reached my ears.

Looking around, I realized I was parked outside of Cyrus’s home. What made that noise? It sounded like something heavy had fallen and smashed.

Did Cyrus fall?

I climbed out of the car to check on him. At his age, falls were common. If he was okay, I’d visit until it was time to pick up Lily from the market. It would be better than crying alone in the car.
