chapter 8 : End of the first year
Hermione and Harry continued their investigation to discover that the person who wanted to steal the Philosopher's Stone had had the method to pass the three-headed dog thanks to information from Hagrid.
They tried to warn McGonagall in Dumbledore's absence but they were not listened to and Harry decided that they were going to go themselves but would need Ron's help.
Luckily Ron wasn't going to see Merlin today as he was working on an enchantment when they arrived and asked him for help, Harry told him it was urgent and he agreed to go with them.
The three went down the stairs but Neville blocked their way and Hermione neutralized him before Ron did.
Harry took out his invisibility cloak and walked in with Hermione but when he looked over at Ron to ask him to come, Ron was no longer there.
"That'll be fine for me, I have my own thing for being invisible." Ron said up front and it surprised them. Harry wanted to know but Ron told him he'll show him later, which he won't.
They arrived on the 3rd floor to the room where the big three headed dog was sleeping, Ron was impressed by the size of the dog and he was asleep thanks to a bewitched harp that someone had left there.
Not wanting to waste time, they moved the dog's paw that was on the trap door but the music stopped and the giant dog stood up to start growling at them and as his two friends started to panic .
With a flick of his wand, Ron whispered "Somnus", the same spell he used on the troll that put the dog to sleep immediately.
Harry: How did you do that?
Hermione: Yes, how?
"We don't really have time for that" Ron said and they moved the dog's paw to open the trapdoor.
Ron jumped first to check for danger and came across a devil's net, a plant that could kill someone by strangulation if that person became agitated.
"It's okay, come down!" They followed but Ron had already passed under the roots.
Harry: RON?!
Harry started to stir and Ron asked him to relax his body from below, Hermione recognized the plant and confirmed what Ron asked to do.
They dropped down and joined their friend.
They moved forward where they saw hundreds of winged keys and a broom flying around the room.
A door was also there with an old lock, Hermione wanted to open it by magic but it didn't work and the solution became obvious, she had to grab the corresponding key to the door and it was an old key that they are easily spotted.
Harry wanted to climb on the broom but Ron held him back, it would be a waste of time.
"Accio" he pointed his wand at the key and a force of attraction pulled it towards his hand.
Harry: AWESOME RON!!
Immediately, the other keys rushed to turn towards them.
Ron: Open quickly!
He gave the key to Harry when the other keys charged towards them.
"Protego" he cast the spell and a translucent bubble surrounded them to block the keys, he held the bubble in place and Harry finally opened the door for them to pass through.
The next room was a giant chess set and to Ron the trap was more than obvious. He asked others not to go on set and did it alone.
Chess was one of his favorite games and every time, he always crushed his opponents, even Merlin couldn't do anything against him when Ron taught him how to play it (universal talent).
He began to play against the board and to the horror of Harry and Hermione, the pawns were actually attacking each other but as with all his other opponents so far, Ron crushed the board and the game ended in just a few movements.
The door in the back opened and they went in to see someone in front of the mirror and instead of Snape, there was Professor Quirell.
Harry: PROFESSOR QUIRELL!!!
Hermione: WAS THAT YOU?! WE THOUGHT IT WAS SNAPE !!
Ron: That's why I told you to have enough evidence.
Quirell began his monologue about himself, his master Voldemort and why he wanted the Philosopher's Stone back but Ron was in no mood to listen to any of that.
He pulled his friends back when Quirell snapped his fingers and flames sealed their way back.
Hermione: We're going to die!
Quirell asked Harry to move forward under threat of killing his friends but Ron suddenly held him back, with some rage, Quirell jumped towards them to grab Harry when in midair, Ron hit him with a "Petrificus totalus ".
Completely paralyzed and rigid on the ground, Quirell was neutralized. Harry by some strange means had retrieved the Philosopher's Stone from his reflection in the mirror but his scar began to hurt as something began to swarm under Quirell's turban.
At the same time, Snape and McGonagall arrived, they barely extinguished the flames when Ron sent a "ventus" on Quirell's turban which was removed by the pressure of the wind and revealed a stray face on the back of her scalp, Hermione immediately recoiled in fright and the pain on Harry's scar increased much more.
"YOU THREE, DON'T GO ANYWHERE...THAT THING!" Snape said as he and McGonagall drew their wands at Quirell on the ground.
The parasitic face let out a shrill scream that caused Hermione to faint, Harry also lost consciousness due to his scar.
The face extracted itself from Quirell's body to become a dark smoke-shaped specter and quickly escape from the place McGonagall tried to attack but he avoided the attack and ran away from there QUICKLY, this thing will later die without a suitable host . Ron was concerned about Harry and Hermione's condition.
Ron: He wanted the Philosopher's Stone, it was Voldemort and he wanted the stone to restore his body.
Snape: We'll talk about this later Mr. Weasley...you will be asked about what happened here.
McGonagall: We need to take these two to the hospital wing.
When Harry woke up in the hospital wing, Dumbledore and Hermione were already in the room. He looked to the side and Ron was asleep, sitting in a chair.
Dumbledore: Good morning, Harry. We questioned Mr. Weasley while you and Miss Granger were unconscious and he told us everything. The school is very grateful to you, especially for recovering the Philosopher's Stone after Miss Granger neutralized Quirell.
"But professor…. » He wanted to give the true version of the facts but Hermione discreetly shook her head for him to stop.
Dumbledore: Your friend looked after you well while you slept, you slept for more than a day and he didn't move.
They stayed talking and once alone, Hermione explained to Harry that Ron lied so as not to attract attention from the school.
Ron woke up on his own afterwards, they left the infirmary to go back to their dormitories and go eat afterwards.
He didn't ask Ron about what he had done, the redhead was far too lazy to worry about any of that.
The end of the year came and at the banquet, Dumbledore announced which house won the four house cup.
Hufflepuff was fourth, Ravenclaw third, Slytherin in second place and Gryffindor was unsurprisingly in first place thanks to a certain trio but especially thanks to a certain red-haired monster who accumulated several points for his house in the different classes where it has been for the whole year.
Ron was the best in the first years and his simple position at the top had earned Gryffindor a 50 point bonus.
As if that wasn't enough, Dumbledore also gave them 50 points each due to recent events and the difference with the others was overwhelming by over 200 points with Slytherin.
The atmosphere was one of applause for everyone except for the Slytherins and Ron who was annoyed by all this agitation, at home there was also agitation but not with so many people and his brothers came to tease him.
The next day they all boarded the train to go home and during the journey Harry was quite sad and Ron who had his head on Luna's shoulder noticed this.
Ron: Stop making that face Harry, you'll be back here in a few months. (yawns) Like all of us…
Hermione: I had quite a good time.
Harry: It's not just that, I'm going to miss you a lot too.
Ron: I'm going to miss you too but there's no need to be so sad, I'll write to you often. Do you have friends at your house?!
Harry: Not...not really
Ron: You live with close relatives of yours though. They have a kid you can play with, right?
Harry: Yes, but it's a bit complicated…
Ron: (stands up) They're mistreating you, aren't they...?
Harry:…
Ron: Please answer...
Harry: It doesn't matter, I'm used to it Ron.
Ron: ARE YOU SERIOUS! WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL PROFESSOR DUMBLEDORE?! HE ALREADY KNOWS?!
Harry: I don't know...
Ron: You're coming with me, you're not going back there. My family and I will find a solution to take you in or adopt you, there is-(interrupted)
Hermione: You know that if you do that the school will be in trouble and you'll be expelled.
Luna: She's right...
Ron: I'm going to find a way to get you out of here Harry and I'm going to write to you, write to you a lot. This will all end soon and I'll tell my parents about it. You'll be able to smile like me in a cool family, I promise.
"Thank you Ron…" Harry said somewhat hopefully as his eyes grew wet just like Hermione's.
Luna just smiled as she continued to read her Newspaper , she knew that if Ron promised something it wasn't going to take him long to deliver on that thing.
