chapter 7 : Christmas and investigation

The next day, Olivier DuBois introduced them to the different positions of the Quidditch team and where Harry was going to be a seeker, Ron was exceptional in each position (universal talent).

DuBois had organized a contest between Ron and his two drumming brothers and had released three bludgers, the first to knock down one of the other two will start in the next matches and Ron had knocked them both down without difficulty.

A contest against the three chasers of the team took place and he crushed them by taking the Quaffle away almost all the time but he also scored a lot of goals much more than the others.

For all this team, he was a real monster because he could move fast, with terrible flexibility and perfect broom handling. They couldn't decide what position to put him in but it seems he was interested in the chaser position.

In the evening, they went to spells class where the professor taught them the spell "Wingardium Leviosa" the levitation spell with a feather as target and Ron succeeded with the greatest boredom without even saying the formula in front of Hermione who was shocked that he used the spell without saying the incantation.

She asked him how he did it and he ignored her, the girl had been annoying him since the class with Snape.

After class she insisted that he tell her but he told her he didn't want to talk to her and the girl ran away sadly.

That evening at dinner, they ate and Ron left the Gryffindor table to eat at the end of another table with Luna who had also left her Ravenclaw table to eat with him.

Everything was quiet when Professor Quirell panicked to say that a Troll had Infiltrated the dungeon.

As the students panicked, Dumbledore calmed them down before asking the prefects to lead the students from their houses to their dormitories.

Ron was telling Luna to watch out for herself when Harry told him that Hermione was in the toilet crying and that she didn't know about the troll.

Feeling slightly guilty for putting the girl in this state, Ron decided to go get her but Harry and Luna wanted to come, Ron agreed because he knew he could protect her without any problem.

It didn't take them long to spot the troll going to the girls' bathroom in the distance and when they arrived, the troll was already swinging his club to attack Hermione who was screaming for help.

Ron arrived when the troll was attracted to them Ron looked at Hermione on the ground.

"Move" he said coldly and the girl got out of the way, the troll wanted to attack Hermione but with a wave of his wand…

"Somnus" Ron cast the spell which directly knocked out the troll who fell heavily into a deep sleep.

" You're hurt ?!" he asked Hermione who just shook her head but she was still crying from fear.

Snape, McGonagall and Quirell arrived and demanded accountability, Hermione wanted to cover them but Ron took the lead.

Ron: Professor McGonagall, it's my fault. Earlier today, Hermione came to me for advice on a spell but I was mean to her. She was sad all evening and came here crying where the troll surprised her but Luna, Harry and I arrived in time after I asked them for help. The four of us managed to knock him out. They stunned him and knocked him unconscious with the second year spell "Stupefy".

Snape: And where did you learn that, Weasley?!

Ron: Just this morning, a second year student left his spell book open and my curiosity led me to see it. As chance would have it, it was this spell that was on the page and I retained it.

Snape: I would like to see that Weasley, try to cast your spell on me and if you lie, I will punish you accordingly.

Ron: Professor McGonagall?

Minerva: This represents a great achievement Ron, especially with a spell that requires work like this. If you have indeed mastered it in a few hours then you will have a reward for beating that troll with it.

Ron: Very good professor.

He pretended to be stressed in front of Snape and held his wand before casting the spell.

Ron: Stupefy!

"Protego" Snape protected himself from the spell and looked at Ron with much surprise.

McGonagall: Mr. Weasley, you are responsible for making your comrade sad but not for putting him in danger, this troll surprised us all so for saving Miss Granger, you three get 5 individual points and Mr. Weasley, Gryffindor gets 20 points more thanks to your talent and mastery of a new spell during a crisis situation.

Quirell: I agree...

Snape: Hmm.

They were sent to their dorms and while Harry was at the front Ron was walking around talking to Luna asking him about the spell he used and why he lied but he didn't tell her anything concrete .

The next day, they had their first Quidditch match against Slytherin and Ron was the First Chaser.

The result was a disaster for Slytherin who only scored 20 points while not only did Ron score 90 points on his own despite some bad shots from their opponents but Harry also ended up catching the snitch which gave them the victory.

That day, Ronald Weasley's name was remembered, no one had ever been so dominant in his position and at his age.

McGonagall came to congratulate them and Ron went to chat with Luna who was really impressed and asked him to be careful though.

Christmas holidays came and Ron stayed with Harry, Luna knew he was going to stay and wanted to do the same but he asked her to come home and celebrate with her father.

He knew that Xenophilius was also still suffering from the loss of his wife and the Christmas holidays were meant to be with family.

Harry had stayed to do his research on Nicolas Flamel, he asked Ron if he knew anything and Ron knew a lot about the alchemist, he gave a little summary of what the man accomplished and also spoke to him of the philosopher's stone.

When he asked for a more detailed explanation of the reason for his research, Harry told him everything he had discovered on the third floor and that he suspected Snape of wanting to steal the stone.

Ron told him to be very careful about his accusations and to gather plenty of evidence before doing so.

They received gifts, Harry was surprised to receive them and Ron gave him his best gifts, his family was rich so his gifts weren't as cheesy anymore but he knew Harry never had a Really happy Christmas.

Harry thanked his friend almost crying and they started opening the presents excitedly and from a stranger who apparently knew Harry's father, he received the iconic invisibility cloak and both were impressed by it .

While Harry was doing his research at night using the cloak, Ron didn't waste his time and continued his lessons with Merlin.

One evening when Ron was sleeping peacefully, Harry came to wake him up to show him something and it was a mirror where he had seen the reflection of his parents.

When they got there, Harry asked Ron if he saw them and Ron saw them. He saw Lilly and James Potter, Harry cried because he thought he was the only one who could do it.

 « Surprising! Truly astounding » They heard a voice that surprised even them and it was Headmaster Dumbledore.

Harry + Ron: Professor Dumbledore!!

Dumbledore: I see that like others before you, you have discovered the great joys of the Mirror of Erised. However, something intrigues me, we can only see our deepest desires in this mirror so how can you little Weasley see the same thing as young Potter?

Ron: Well it's simple, it's because I want Harry to be happy for Christmas.

Harry: Ron...

Dumbledore:…

"You have no personal desire, no ambition of your own? » he asked Ron curiously.

Ron: No, I already have everything I want but Harry has never had anything and he's my friend. I don't really have many friends and the only thing I want for them is for them to be happy and especially him.

Dumbledore: Not even your family?!

Ron: Happy, we already are, and have been since long before we made our fortune.

"Ahahahaha!" Dumbledore started laughing and they looked at each other in confusion.

Harry: Professor? Are you doing well ?

Dumbledore: Oh forgive that old man children, hanging out with adults makes me forget how pure some children are. (looks at Harry) Potter you are lucky to have a friend like him, people like him haven't existed for a very long time. And as for you Mr. Weasley, you are truly unique.

He told them that the mirror could be dangerous, that it was going to be moved and that they should not look for it again.

When winter was over Ron was somewhere lying his back on his flying broom and sleeping with an open book on his face, he was perfectly able to take a nap with so much balance on his broom it was because of the magic, let's not overdo it.

He was having his best nap when Hermione and Harry found him, the day before they visited Hagrid late at night to talk about the three headed dog but Malfoy saw them and told McGonagall who punished them and asked them to help Hagrid at the Forbidden Forest where Harry came face to face with a weakened Voldemort and was narrowly saved.

Ron: And so according to you Harry, if Snape wants the stone it is to give it to Voldemort?!

Harry: That's what I think.

Ron: Look, it's better to wait and see other clues. Dumbledore is here and as long as he is here you are safe Harry. The exams are coming up so revise, (yawns) if you need help with your…investigations then I'll be there.

The end-of-year exam arrived and it was so easy that Ron got perfect marks everywhere even though the results had not yet been announced.
