"There's an ambush…"
Said Lyra, jumping down from the tree she's in.
"Kobolds! Watch out, they're using weapons."
Asfi reacted fast, parrying a sudden attack that came out of nowhere and unexpectedly enough, she was pushed back a little.
She looked at the monster that just attacked her in shock.
She never once thought that after becoming a level 4 that she'll be pushed back by a mere upper floor monster such as a kobold.
"Well, that was unexpected…"
Kai muttered seeing the reactions of everyone after realizing that the kobolds they were facing aren't so simple.
Just as everyone was shocked by the development an arrow was shot straight coming for Kai's head thankfully Kaguya reacted fast intercepting it.
Though it wasn't really needed because Kai had long deployed his [mystic void barrier] and [infinity].
Right now, only creatures that have the power to interfere with the very laws or possessed overwhelming energy have the slightest chance of possibly harming a single hair on him.
But Kaguya didn't know this as she glared at the kobold who shot the arrow aiming for Kai's life.
She forgot that Kai literally dodged her point-blank accident a few seconds ago.
"How scary…"
Said Kai in a quivering voice.
"…"
Hermes, who heard his utterance, developed a deadpan expression.
In fact, Hermes knew that Kai was the strongest person here and that's the reason he insisted that Kai should come with them.
While he hadn't confirmed this in his own eyes, the very fact that Zeus someone who had mastered the art of spear in an unprecedented level even for a god claimed to have been defeated in a battle of technique and mastery is enough proof of Kai's capabilities and prowess to reassure him.
"You saw this coming didn't you?"
Hermes whispered onto Kai's ears.
Kai looks at the god thoughtfully for a second before giving him a confused smile.
Hermes also smiled back.
Kai's response is satisfactory enough for him.
"Don't let your guard down. These monsters are as strong as a level 3."
Lyra shouted alerting everyone.
'Genius One, analyze these monsters.'
[I need a live sample to do a perfect analysis.]
"Kaguya nee-san can I have that monster."
Kai pointed at the monster that shot the arrow aiming for him being beaten up by Kaguya.
She had already captured the poor monster in that short time and was currently torturing it.
Kaguya calmed down hearing Kai call out for her.
She looks at the monster in her arms for a second before throwing it like a rag doll towards Kai's direction.
The moment the beaten up monster landed on Kai's front a pitch-black vortex [Oblivion] appeared under it swallowing the poor monster whole leaving nothing behind.
Kaguya was shocked at the display but was able to quickly recover recalling that Kai is a half god (genuine god) thinking that pitch-black vortex might be related to his divinity or something similar.
[Notice. Analysis complete.]
'Do you have something interesting for me?'
[Affirmative. These monsters seem to have been infected by an unknown virus of sorts where the more they kill, the more they grow stronger, but in exchange they will slowly lose their instincts and be driven into madness.]
'Oh ho, that sounds intriguing? Well, monsters in this world are already mindless mad, so such side effects are irrelevant
"Did you find out something?"
Ryuu asked who was just beside Kaguya and Kai.
She was also angered by the daring attack of the kobold but Kaguya already stole the spotlight, so she kept silent but after seeing Kai's characteristic amuse smile she knew something was up, so she grabbed the opportunity.
Just like Bella had said Kai is into elf, and he had been trying to get close to Ryuu having grown interested in the elf ever since they were introduced to each other.
Kai looks at Ryuu in the eyes for a second making the elf blush a little before his amuse expression turns into a solemn one.
"These monsters are all enhance species, but that's not all.
These monsters are also infected by some strange unknown virus that strengthens them the more living creatures they kill."
The others were already done disposing the kobolds, so they've clearly heard Kai's proclamation.
Beside Kai make sure that his voice can reach everyone around him.
Normally, they wouldn't listen to a child's rambling but the child we're talking about is Kai who had become somewhat of a leader figure to everyone, and they had grown to trust him in this past month due to his clear superior intellect and wisdom that help them on numerous occasions.
"Are you certain?"
Hermes asked.
"You should be able to tell that I'm not lying, Hermes-sama."
Even after becoming a bonafide god Kai finds that he still couldn't lie in front of a god.
He had inquired Zeus about such a matter and the latter told him that gods can tell if another god is lying.
Hermes bit his tongue in frustration.
Things were just getting more and more complicated.
Artemis and Astraea reached the group and asked them what's going on seeing the solemn expressions everyone is having.
Alise disclosed what Kai had discovered about the enhanced variant of kobolds.
The goddesses' expression also turned solemn, but it only lasted for a second before it was replaced by a more determined expression.
"Why is everyone dejected, it doesn't change our goal and that is to exterminate this evil that threatens the lives of the people…"
Astraea began her long speech lifting the crowds' morale.
"I'm pathetic…"
Hermes muttered.
"It's good that you knew…"
The goddess of the moon Artemis retorted making the god of travels staggered to the ground losing his balance.
Thereafter his downright demeanor lit up all of a sudden but with a bit of annoyance directed to the goddess of the moon.
"I never expected you to be the one to help me get up from my feet, Artemis."
"I don't know what we're saying."
The goddess ignored the god as she approached Kai.
"Are you ok? Are you hurt anywhere?"
She asked, giving him a tight embrace, her bountiful breasts almost suffocating him to death.
"I'm so envious…"
Kai could hear Hermes muttering something.
Getting a breather, Kai replied.
"I'm alright. You don't have to worry about me lady Artemis."
"How many times do I need to remind you to just call me by my name."
"But…"
"No buts and that is final."
She gave Kai a stern look showing that she wouldn't take a no for an answer.
Kai let out a sigh before complying.
"Ok, I got it, Artemis…"
He said in a gentle tone accompanied by a genuine smile.
'It's not too bad to be pampered from time to time I guess.'
Kai thought as he looked at the smile the goddess is having.
He wanted to protect that smile.
Kai knew about Artemis sad destiny of being devoured by Antares thanks to his [pursuit of truth] and he promised to do everything to sever that fate.
But that's a story for another time.
