First Dance together

Neither of them could silence the heated crowd, and so, Chester suggested them to give a glimpse of a show.

Taking the dance floor, Josh and Jamie stood facing each other. The two remained in silence while hearing the rustling noises from the crowd surrounding the dance floor.

When every eye from the audience set upon the two, Josh felt more terrified than Jamie. She got used to the stage presence, unlike Josh. Along with the panic, Josh also exhibited restlessness with the situation in front of him.

Everyone at school knows that Josh loves Carmel. It is only fair for him to dance his first song with his girlfriend.

Watching him sulk, Jamie suggested that she can talk to Chester and cancel the performance.

Josh panicked from her idea. He can't let her alone take responsibility. Unable to calm down himself, Josh searched the circle of the crowd for Carmel. When he spotted her, Carmel stood behind Sara and her date. He could only spot her face amongst the crowd.

Carmel's gaze never left Josh for a second. When she realized that he was searching for her, Carmel's eyes glistened in joy. She signaled her presence. Josh's smile naturally opened upon seeing his girlfriend.

They both stared into each other for a while before Josh got distracted by the murmurs. Everybody's expectation is set on them tonight, as the king and queen, they are to perform and start the night of dance officially.

Seeing her beloved smile fade, Carmel signaled Josh once again. She hissed softly, aiming to reach only him.

When Josh faced, she told him to relax.

Signaling her hands to let him take deep breaths, Josh followed her.

"Do your best, Mr. King of the prom. I'm watching you," she eyed.

Josh broke out a smile.

Seeing her favorite smile appear again on his face, Carmel rejoiced.

Jamie watched all these unfold in front of her. She chuckled softly. As she did, a thought surfaced. Jamie looked around and scanned the crowd quickly before the music can start playing.

Ivy worked behind the scenes with the audio team.

On her signal, soon, the beat sounded, alarming everyone to go mute at once.

Eric Clapton's 'Wonderful Tonight' is the song choice. With the mellow sweet harmony of all the instruments together, Eric's voice resounded inside the room.

It's late in the evening;

She's wondering what clothes to wear.

The song slowly started.

Jamie is the first to notice the song and recognize it. Her eyes instinctively relaxed from hearing the music.

"It's Eric Clapton's classic song, as expected for the prom," she said to Josh.

Josh could vaguely recall the song, but he did listen to Jamie share a few facts of the song as she took the stance to commence their dance.

Josh followed and quickly took the lead in controlling the movements. He seemed to be a non-dancer, but the guy practiced a lot for the first prom dance that he would have with Carmel.

Carmel saw them beginning to move. She also remembered the music, and it felt nostalgic for all of them since it is a perfect song to dance at prom.

She saw Josh and Jamie gracefully move together as they danced to the music. Her eyes never left Josh and watched the way the guy sway in his suit while holding the lady in his embrace. Part of her wanted to be Jamie's position, but soon the thought disappeared as Carmel got engrossed into their dancing.

Jamie got impressed with the guy taking the lead. She did not expect Josh to guide her while charmingly moving along to the sound; It surprised her. At the same time, she noticed how everyone soon got engaged in their performance, and so did Carmel too. Jamie felt sad for taking away their first dance together.

The song was nearing its end with only a few more lines to deliver by the ever-great Eric Clapton.

"Follow my lead, Josh," Jamie instructed as she soon changed the course of their movements to her lead. She gracefully guided Josh to move around the stage deliberately. Their steps received a lot of gasps and shocking squeals from the audience. The entire dance floor got owned by Jamie's flawless movements, followed by Josh's support. With every step they took, it was like magic, just like the fairies.

The song is about a girl who is getting ready for the night with her loved one.

A perfect choice for any couple to dance.

With these lines, Jamie pulled Josh to the corner of the dance floor, near to the audience. While gasps from the sudden closeness of the two stars, Jamie took a full spin with her toes and swung her hand towards the audience, she switched the places swiftly by pulling someone from the crowd directing this new figure to Josh's grip while pulling herself out.

I say, "My darling, you were wonderful tonight...

Oh my darling, you were wonderful tonight."

As these words heard, Carmel found herself facing Josh. The guy got startled from the quick shift. He appeared blushed when those words sounded into his ears as he watched his girlfriend appear in front of him.

Their faces reddened from staring into each other.

Josh felt his heart skip a beat. He disconnected his melting, intense gaze from Carmel to Jamie, who stood at the sides of the dance floor.

His eyes appeared puzzled as well as astonished.

The entire crowd got arrested with a sudden transition.

Jamie noticed all of it, and she bowed gracefully to Josh and the crowd for the opportunity. Standing straight, she introduced the two shining stars under the spotlight.

"Let's give it up for Carmel and Josh, the star couple of the night!" Jamie announced.

Everything happened within seconds that nobody had the moment to process, and so, they all went along with Jamie and cheered for the correct pairing.

Carmel got snapped back to reality when she heard the cheering sound of her friends.

"What a girl, Jamie always does astound you," Ivy remarked from far away, watching the scene.

"You better dance with her, Ryder," she yelled.

The voice sounded familiar. Carmel turned and saw Ivy smiling from behind.

Josh quickly acted; he led Carmel with all of his affection and guided her tenderly as the two began their dancing.

Long gone the beautiful voice of Clapton and now following the lovely melody, Josh and Carmel took the stage with their passionate performance.

Their performance pleases the crowd and fills the entire room with warm, loving energy. Jamie soon joins her friends and admires Josh and Carmel dancing to their heart's content.

Soon, no one focused on Jamie anymore.

The prom queen eased a bit once she stepped out of the spotlight.

Loosening her stern posture, she relaxed her spine. Sighing to herself, Jamie felt grateful for coming up with such an idea at the given time frame. She managed to wipe out Josh's uneasiness and matched him with his natural partner. Although she enjoyed the few moments with the prom king, Jamie realized that it is not her place to dance.

"Woah, that's Jamie for you," Anna commented from the happening yet, her eyes stayed with the couple dominating on the floor.

As everyone grooved along with them, Jamie heard someone slip next to her. The person grabbed her hands, tenderly enveloping those soft fingers within.

As soon as Jamie felt the touch, her whole body flinched nervously.

Moving her eyes balls, gradually she peeked at her side, her gaze widens.

"I think prom queen should dance with her partner as well," the person said as he stepped on to the dance floor.

Reaching out his hands, he slightly bows to welcome Jamie to dance with him.

Jamie froze to her feet, unable to move or react. She looked overwhelmed with the shock.

Perhaps, the one whom Jamie searched all along while she was away.

Accepting his hands, Jamie falls into his embrace. With such a close encounter, her heart starts beating faster.

She appeared flushed.

Luckily, the song reaches its end, giving the newly emerging couple a chance to start over.

Seeing another new couple alongside Josh and Carmel, the audience gawked at the pairing.

Josh and Carmel noticed the other two emerge along with their vision. They greeted each other and took the position as the music appears.

A few in the audience gaped along with their partners. The guys gaped their eyes to confirm if that was the same person that they all knew, and the girls appeared dumbfounded along.

"Is that-" one of the guys faltered.

"Derek Shuvell?"

Almost everybody's mind said the same name until it hit their senses.

"The guy that Jamie, herself, asked out by rejecting other proposals is Derek?"

..

"This song will do better for the two couples," Ivy remarked as she signaled the team to cue the music.

Etta James's 'At Last' is the second choice.
