King Kai was in the middle of doing some final progress checks on Goku and Raditz's training, when Shay spoke up.
"Alright. It's time. Goku, you might want to go call Earth and get yourself resurrected in the next few minutes." She said. It was the first thing she'd said to any of them in months, and it surprised everyone for a second.
"Oh, it really is. I forgot about the time it'll take you to get back to Earth along Snake Way. I almost messed that up big time. Thanks for reminding me, Shay."
"What? I thought that you were just going to zap us back!" Goku was surprised. He didn't really want to run that indescribably huge distance again, and Raditz didn't seem too thrilled about the idea, either. King Kai just shook his head. Remembering something, Raditz turned to Shay.
"Don't suppose you'll help us out a bit? I know you're capable of it all." Shay had already brought Raditz back to life without using the Dragon Balls, so he knew that she could do the same thing to his brother as well, and they'd also seen her teleport to the Core during the Whis incident. It was clear that she could solve both of their problems, but would she?
"Nope. Mistress doesn't want me to." Shay shook her head. Honestly, she'd wondered about that herself. While the plan that Hanna's still trying to follow required them to get there late enough to have Piccolo die, with Raditz giving them a reason to go to Namek, none of that was necessary. But Shay's orders hadn't changed.
Shay's running theory on why that was had to do with Whis. She figured that Hanna was trying to live up to her promise of not interfering beyond a certain point by keeping a certain part of the original canon intact, forcing Goku and Raditz to be late anyways. Hanna's real reason was far simpler. She just felt it was best to let the dragon resurrect Goku, rather than Shay.
Raditz didn't press the matter. Knowing Shay as well as he had gotten to over these last few months, they all knew there was no point. When Shay mentioned her Mistress (Which she did every single time she spoke), she became incredibly pigheaded.
"Alright, then." Goku wasn't as worried about it as he'd been in the anime. After all, he was far faster than he'd been getting there, and Shay's plan seemed to involve him fighting the Saiyans, which meant that the battle was an absolute thing, going to happen no matter what they chose to do.
"How do you expect us to call Earth if you won't help us with any of it?!" Raditz yelled at Shay, frustrated.
"Goku, just put your hand on my back and speak to them with your mind. I'll relay your thoughts to your friends with my telepathy." King Kai explained. Goku, having no clue what the word 'relay' meant, just looked at him, confused.
"Kakarot, just put your hand on his back and talk to the earthlings!" Raditz shouted. He'd have done it himself, but none of the earthlings would've listened to him and he knew it.
"Just like this?" Goku put his hand on King Kai's back, still a little confused.
"Yes, just get on with it." King Kai told him.
...
"KA-ME-HA-ME-!" Krillin charged up his ki in order to blast the ocean as a part of his training, when Master Roshi snuck up behind him.
"PICKLES!" Roshi screamed in his ear, causing Krillin to jump, "BOOM!!" Most of his energy went the way that he'd directed it to go, but some of it blew up in his face, causing Roshi to break out laughing.
"Hahahaa- and pickles hahahaha!" He was rolling on the ground, laughing so hard that he could barely breathe. He started laughing even harder when Krillin turned back around to look at him, face red as a tomato from the blast.
"Seriously, Master? I'm trying to train for the upcoming battle. The Saiyans could be landing any day now." Krillin told his master, annoyed. Naturally, it didn't make the joke any less funny for Roshi, as he was having trouble calming down.
Finally, Roshi managed, "You're not wrong, Krillin, but you can't simply jump into training and forget everything else. Fun is important, especially now." He told his young pupil.
"You're right, Master." Krillin nodded, still annoyed. Suddenly, a voice enters both of their heads at the same time.
"Master Roshi, Krillin, it's me, Goku. Can you hear me? Krillin? Mater Roshi?"
"Goku?" They both exclaim at the same time, "Goku, is that you? Where are you?" Krillin asked.
"It's sort of a long story, but I'm talking to you guys with my mind, from King Kai's planet. Can you hear me okay?" He asked.
"Yes, we can." Roshi answered for them.
"Great! Did you guys manage to collect all seven dragon balls?"
"Sure did! Ready when you are, Goku!" Krillin exclaimed.
"I understand that you've been undergoing some sort of special training?" Roshi asked.
"Yeah! That's right! It's been going great, and you won't believe who I met while I was here." Goku told them, opting not to mention Raditz by name. "But I've learned all I can here, and it's time to come home. I need you guys to wish me back to life right away, okay? We've only got a day and a half or so before those two Saiyans arrive on Earth!"
"What?! Only a day and a half? But that can't be! Has it already been a whole year? Oh, this is bad..." Roshi freaked out, but Krillin was a little calmer.
"Master Roshi, don't worry. It's gonna be fine, because we have Goku, Piccolo, and Hanna fighting by our sides. We're ready for this, Goku!"
"Thanks, Krillin. It's nice to know how much you guys believe in me. You're right, we're ready." Goku told his friend.
Goku stopped talking to them after that, and they gathered the Dragon Balls. When Bulma had originally found all seven in his closet about 11 months ago, she'd been all sorts of annoyed at him, but they'd stayed there anyways. Now, it was time to use them.
"Why have you summoned me? Tell me your wish now!" Shenron asked them the same questions he always did, even though he'd been informed about this wish almost a year ago.
"Yes, uh... Excuse me. Mr. Dragon, could you possibly destroy the Saiyans that are on their way to Earth right about now?" Oolong asked. Bulma got mad at Oolong for that one, but in his eyes, it made sense.
The dragon paused. He could technically do that with the energy he'd been given for his secondary task, but that was not the wish that he'd been told that he was going to be asked to grant. After a moment, he decided that it would be unwise to waste that energy on an unrelated wish.
"Your wish will not be granted. Because the guardian of Earth created me, I cannot grant a wish that exceeds his power." Instead of saying that it cannot be granted, he said that it won't be granted instead. This way, he wouldn't be lying.
Roshi didn't miss a beat, "Then I wish for Goku to be brought back to life!"
"So be it." This was the wish that the dragon had expected. He granted it, adding the secondary request to it as well. "Your wish has been granted."
