Demonic Humans

In front of the third division, Zain wearing his usual annoyed expression, waited impatiently until he was called out for by Sarah who had a habit of arriving way past the meeting.

"Oh, you were here already"

"Shut up, let's just get moving, that old man will probably not be here until the afternoon"

Checking his clock, Zain couldn't help but be irritated to see it was only ten am.

Entering the building, Zain noticed the massive difference between it and the other divisions, there was nothing on the first floor apart from some security guards, all with their weapons loaded and ready to enter the elevator at any time.

"The upper floors are only used for sleeping and nothing more, the real deal is in the basement"

It was an unusual use of the facilities so, it made Zain wonder, "Why?"

"Well, most of our research is to be done in secret from the public so it's best to do it all in the basement of the building"

Brushing the topic to the side the both of them made their way to an elevator, Zain, who had entered before Sarah, noticed that, unlike the other buildings, this one had six floors on the underground.

With an awkward ride to the third floor underground, Zain and Sarah arrived at an unusually white hallway.

Stopping right in front of a certain room, Sarah handed Zain a similar folder to the one she had given to Jack.

"So are we going in?"

"No, I will discuss some things with you, before going in"

Sarah then proceeded to grab onto Zain's arm and pulled him a little further into the hallway, so they would stand beside a one-sided mirror. Looking inside Zain noticed four children inside of the room, however, Zain himself couldn't call them people.

Sarah noticed his manifestation of discomfort and decided to try her best to make him accept the situation in a better way.

Pointing at a girl with black hair tied up in a ponytail, with a large bang of her hair covering her red eyes, Sarah started to explain.

"She is Anastasia, we call her Ana...Her parents were soldiers, they died during their fight against the blind demon. With no place to really call home, she came to the demon force, only to find out, she had an inherited weakness. The experimentation allowed her to survive."

"..."

Although he didn't say anything, Sarah could tell that Zain was listening to her very attentively.

Now, pointing to a young man with dark skin, black hair, and green eyes.

"That's Stefen, we call him Stefen. He didn't like being called Steve. He was abandoned as a child, and I think you know what happened next"

"...I know"

Letting out a small smile as she looked at Zain's face, she decided to pretend to have not noticed anything as she pointed towards another boy, this time an older-looking boy with blonde hair and blue eyes.

"That's Carl, although he looks to be at least in his twenties, he is only fourteen...Carl was also abandoned as a child. He took care of the other children on the streets. One day, he was beaten beyond recovery."

Unlike before, Zain's anger wasn't the same, instead feeling an emotion way deeper. Inside of his rapidly increase heart, beating faster and faster, as he was slowly reminded of his past.

Finally, Sarah pointed at the child that had gotten Zain's attention from the beginning as it was impossible to not have noticed her. Running around the room like a child, scratching the walls like an animal.

"That's Lily, she lacks intelligence and common sense. In reality, we don't know what happened to her, she was extremely feral even on the day we met."

Gradient white hair with light blue on the ends, light blue eyes but most of all a large white tail on her back, she was the outcast of the room. Even the others seemed to be trying to stay away from her.

Being done with what she needed to say, Sarah opened the door to the room, only after calling for security to arrive on the third floor. She didn't feel threatened by them, it was just a precaution in case of anything.

The moment the door to the secured room opened, all attention was focused on Zain who felt the different emotions being expressed by the children.

'Anxious, unbothered, excited, and annoyed.'

'Wait a minute, excited?'

Amongst the crowd of spectators was a young man with dark skin, whose excitement could be seen all over his face, and not being to suppress it any longer, he jumped up from his chair, starling everyone inside and outside of the room.

"Uh, excuse me but those grey ey-"

"No, I got them four years ago", Before Stefen could even finish asking his question, Zain had already shut him down, fully knowing what the child wanted to ask.

The others seemed curious as to what was going on, so Zain grabbed onto Lily's chair which was unused as she was running around the room, and sat at the front of the room. Like a teacher in a consultation room.

Unlike his usual angry-sounding voice, this time, he made it sound softer as he talked to the children in the room. Not wanting to startle them, with his aggressive nature.

"Do any of you guys know, why I'm here?"

The children all looked at each other and answered honestly to the question.

"No"

Hearing their response, Zain's eyes turned to directly look at Sarah's eyes who quickly avoided the burdensome and heavy glare. Only letting out a small sigh, Zain, continued talking softly towards the children.

"Then it's simple, all you will be joining division two, unit three, from this point forward"

"...D-D-D-Divis-sion two, unit three?!"

Stefen who once again regained his excitement after the previous shut down was now with a high grin on his face once again. Stuttering with his every word, his smile only got worst. Lily who was next to him couldn't help but make an annoyed expression as she wonder what was his deal.

Anastasia the introverted-looking child was the first to ask what this mean, which Stefen with his limited knowledge answered like a true fanatic in his faith.

"Ana, do you really not know?"

"What?"

"D2, U3, otherwise known as the unit with the hero of the Sacred Land. They are the only unit in the history of the second division to have survived with the same leader for 10 years. They are considered to be the greatest unit in the whole Demon Force"

Interrupting his sermon, was Zain, his soft-spoken voice was no more.

"Never say those things in front of our squad leader from now on...You will regret it"

Stefen noticing Zain's serious expression just sat back down wondering what he had done wrong. Letting out a sigh, Zain looked at all of the children straight in the eyes, however, he was caught off-guard at the sudden appearance of Lily in front of his face.

Forcing Zain to stand up, Lily forcefully took back her chair and sat down.

"Lily doesn't want to join anyone", She said, speaking in the third person and sounding like a brat.

"Well, under the higher-up orders, you will have to join our unit, you brat"

"Ah, Lily is not a brat"

"That so?"

Nodding aggressively as she stared at Zain with the mad face of a dog who just had his food stolen. She stood proudly without backing off. Zain wondered for a moment, 'Is it bravery or foolishness?'

"Anyways, you will have to follow the orders of the old man from now on", Zain finding her attitude annoying decided to let it pass for now.

"No, Lily will not, Lily is strong she does not need to follow anyone's orders"

Turning his head to look at Sarah, Zain couldn't help but give her an expression asking for help but judging from Sarah's attitude he knew he wouldn't be getting anything. Dealing with children wasn't exactly his forte.

Letting out a sigh, he continued to argue with the child.

"You will have to"

"...No, shut up, Lily will kill you"

The moment, Zain heard those words, a vein in his forehead popped up.

"WHAT DID YOU SA-"

*Knock Knock

However, before he could say anything, someone knocked on the door interrupting their conversation. Opening it, was Jack wearing his full uniform together with an axe and his gun.

"You are lat-"

"Welcom-"

Sarah and Zain were both going to say something to irritate Jack as it was in their nature but the moment they both had seen his expression, they both stopped.

A large vein had formed on Jack's forehead, and his eyes were looking for blood. Nevertheless, he smiled and did his tasks like a true leader.

"I'm Jack Walker your commander from now on, I want everyone to gather aroun-"

"No, Lily doesn't want to!"

Silence.

And then, fear.

That was the single emotion that everyone in the room felt the moment Lily said those words. Even Lily who was the one that had talked back to the commander was feeling fear.

Stonecold eyes filled with immense rage within them.

Jack whose veins on his face were about to pop, walked up to Lily whose face was nothing more than the one of prey in front of the hunter, and put his hand on her shoulder.

"I will be testing your strength from now on, all of you go to the back of the room"

Before he was even done saying those words, Sarah and Zain were already both out of the room, looking inside from the one-way mirror.

Carl, Stefen, and Ana had all noticed their disappearance and immediately made their way to the back of the room.

Lily on the other hand tried to stand her ground as he looked into Jack's fearsome eyes.

Jack stared at her remembering the report he had previously received.

'Lily Degarcia, low intelligence.'

It was only after Jack had pulled out his rifle that Lily decided to step back. And with only two jumps she had already made a distance of almost six meters between the two.

'Fear of guns, they must have used them against her.'

"Scared?"

"Ah, Lily isn't scared, Lily is just...Smart, yes, smart"

"So you are capable of pattern recognition"

"Grrrrrrr"

Lowering her upper body and putting only one hand on the ground, her eyes stayed focused on Jack's gun.

The others behind her on the other hand were all pretty afraid of getting involved.

Sarah, Zain, and the guards outside also had worried expressions, wondering if this was all going to be fine. Scared for the life of one of his comrades, a soldier decided to ask.

"Is this truly ok?"

"Hmm, I think it is fine I don't think they will die, after all, they are demonic humans", Zain responded. Sarah who stood by his side, couldn't help but nod in agreeance.

The guard who had just heard those words couldn't help but mutter.

"They?"
