I noticed that the mortal girl abruptly stopped on her track so I turned around to check on her,
"What's up?"
I asked her with a smile. But she snapped back at me and repeated my words with a sarcastic undertone.
"What's up?! You ask?"
She rolled her eyes after that then looked at me straight into my eyes.
"This might not come as a shock to you, Mr. Guardian Angel but I am having some trouble getting my head around this."
Don't get me wrong.
I do pity her for her plight and I also felt sorry for dragging her to this whole messy setup.
But as much as I wanted to give her all the time that she needed to come to terms with this new normal of hers, that time was simply not at our disposal.
"Well, you better get your pretty little head around it, and quick if I must say. You are on their radar now."
She was startled when I told her that, and again, for who knew how many times already, I saw how her whole body tensed up.
"What radar? What do you mean? I don't get it. Why are these demons after me? I didn't do anything and I don't have anything to do with them either. So why am I suddenly being dragged to this angel and demons fiasco?"
"Just like what I told you earlier, you can expose them. So they will do everything they can to get rid of you. That is why we are offering you our protection, in exchange for that, you will work for us. You teaming up with us can make any of those bastards crap in their undies."
"So you are telling me that these demons are scared of us?"
"As long as they have been around, we, the angels who walked the face of the Earth have sworn to hunt them down. We have taken an oath to get rid of every single one of the demons lurking the mortal realm."
That was all that I told her, but in all honestly, there was more than that.
We were determined to erase the demon's existence in this f.u.c.k.i.n.g realm because by then, we hope that it would grant us entry to that place that once closed its gated for us, eons ago.
Our agenda was to gain merit and used it as a token to create a pact that would allow the fallen angels to regain our positions in the Upper Realm.
"How come I can see them?"
Out of the blue, she asked me the same question that had been bugging my mind as well.
"Maybe it is just how your brain was wired."
I suggested but then she shared with me her own thoughts about the matter.
"Or could it be due to this?"
She raised her sleeve and there I saw an obvious anomaly on her forearm.
"Where do you got that nasty scar?"
I asked her as she pulled her sleeves back down to cover her skin.
"I never told anyone about it before; even my best friend. But when I was a child, I was involved in a car accident."
I saw her eyes glistened with a light of melancholy when she tried to recall her past. I did not tell her, but it was probably the same night when I first met her.
"I am not sure what truly happened back then and I used to convince myself that what I saw that night happened all inside my mind. I saw my parents turned into a monster and they were the one who gave me this. Everything happened so fast that night, I could hardly tell which was real and which was not. Because the next thing I knew, I was already crying and rescued out from our car."
She basically just told me about our first encounter, without her knowing that I was also there with her when it happened.
Rather than bringing that up, I focused on her scar instead.
"If what I am thinking is right, that scar of yours was a spirit wound."
"Spirit wound?"
"It means that you got that wound from a demon and that was probably the reason why a mortal like you gain the ability to see past through their disguise. Although I have never heard of someone surviving a cut made by a demon since the miasma in their claws were usually fatal."
"So you are telling me that there are only a few of us who can?"
"Yeah. So few that you are the first person that I met to have that kind of talent. If only that was not the case, we won't have trouble finding the demons, to begin with."
