CHAPTER 5

The next day of dragon training the arena was set up like a maze. Hela, Fenrir and Gobber were up on the stand watching Hiccup and the others trying to avoid a Deadly Nadder.

"Hey, you know, I just happened to notice the book had nothing on Night Furies. Is there another book, or a sequel? Maybe a Night Fury pamphlet" Hiccup asks Gobber but his axe blade gets blasted by the Nadder startling him.

"Focus Hiccup, you're not even trying," Gober tells him as the Nadder charges at him, "Today is all about ATTACK, Nadders are quick and light on their feet. Your job is to be quicker and lighter"

The Nadder jumps on the wooden walls of the maze and sees Fishlegs. It spikes up its tail spikes and fires them at him making him block with his shield.

"I am really starting to question your teaching methods," Fishlegs says as he runs from the Nadder.

"Look for it's blind spot! Every dragon has one. Find, it hide in it and strike" Gobber tells them while Hela is focused so no one is seriously hurt dragon or human. The twins round a corner coming face to face with the Nadder but it doesn't see them since they are in its blind spot.

"Ugh, do you ever bathe," Ruffnut asks her brother.

"If you don't like it, then just get your own blind spot" Tuffnut says as they start shoving each other.

"How about I give you one," Ruffnut says as she headbutts him. The Nadder growls getting their attention and they dodge it's fire breath.

"Blindspot yes, deaf spot, not so much, hehehe". Gobber says.

" Hey, so, how would one sneak up on a Night Fury?" Hiccup asks not focusing at all making Hela sigh in frustration.

"No one's ever met one and lived to tell the tale now get in there," Gobber tells him.

"I know, I know but hypothetically," Hiccup says walking backwards.

"Hiccup, get down" Astrid whispers at him as she and Snotlout are hiding from the Nadder. Astrid and Snotlout roll to the other side, Hiccup tries to do the same but the weight of his shield pulls him back getting the Nadder's attention making him run away screaming.

"Watch out, babe, I'll take care of this" Snotlout says as he pushes Astrid to the side and throws his Mace at the dragon completely missing it and the Nadder making laughing noses 'Even the dragon knows he's a muttonhead' Hela thought with a chuckle.

"The sun was in my eyes, Astrid. What do you want me to do, block out the sun. uhh, I could do that but I don't have time," he says as the Nadder fires and chases after them. It runs into the maze wall making everything tumble down.

"Has anyone seen one napping?" asks ignoring everyone that's bumping into him.

"HICCUP" Gobber and Hela yell as they see the wall falling towards Hiccup. He tries to move out of the way but Astrid falls on top of him her axe being lodged into his shield. Hela sees the Nadder heading towards them the same time Astrid sees it and tries to get her axe out of Hiccup's shield. She takes it with the shield but before she can hit the Nadder Hela jumps into the arena and grabs it by the tail before swinging it back to its cage without using too much force.

"Is this some kind of a joke to you, our partner's war is about to become ours figure out which side you're on" Astrid scolds Hiccup before walking away frustrated and angry.

"Sigh, You have to focus on this training little brother because one wrong move and you can be seriously hurt or worse," Hela tells him as she helps him up.

"I'm sorry sis, I was just curious that's all" Hiccup says.

"I know because you wouldn't be Hiccup if you weren't," Hela says with a smile making him chuckle.

Hela finds Astrid hacking away at a tree angrily. As she got closer she stepped on a twig making Astrid turn around and throw her axe in the direction of the sound. Hela caught the axe handle with the blade a few inches away from her face and she didn't look phased at all.

"Well, it's good to see your aim is still as good as ever," Hela says with a smirk as she lowers the axe from her face.

"Hela I am so sorry I wasn't paying attention and..." Astrid says.

"I can see that," Hela says as she looks around at the trees with slash marks, "so you want to talk about it"

"it's just that Hiccup made me so angry he never takes anything seriously and everything he does ends up in a disaster," Astrid says as she hugs Hela.

"You can't be hard on him Astrid he's already having a hard time fitting in since everyone except me thinks he's useless, plus I don't want my girlfriend and little brother hating each other" Hela says.

"Alright, I'll try to be nice to him from now on," Astrid says making Hela nod.

"Ok, this is going to be a weird question but what do you think of dragons," Hela asks surprising Astrid.

"It is a weird question but I think they are mindless bloodthirsty monsters, what brought this on," Astrid inquires.

"Well, a few things happened that changed my perspective on dragons as them not being mindless monsters but intelligent and magnificent creatures," Hela said as Astrid looked at her weird.

"What are you talking about?"

"I'll just have to show you," Hela said as she leads Astrid deeper into the woods. After walking for a while they reached the cove.

"What are we doing here," Astrid asked looking around the cove taking everything in.

"You'll see," Hela says as she hugs Astrid from behind since she knew she would freak out when she sees Troels. A few seconds later a familiar high-pitched whistling sound is heard before Troels landed in front of them and Astrid freaked out.

"Night Fury Hela we have to get out of here," Astrid said in fear as she squirmed in Hela's arms trying to get away.

"Hey, it's ok, your safe he's not gonna hurt you," Hela said.

"what"

"Astrid this is Troels, Troels this is Astrid" Hela said introducing them.

"Hela have you lost your mind that's a night fury," Astrid said anxious.

"I know Astrid do you trust me," Hela asked seriously and Astrid calmed down a little after hearing the question.

"I trust you," Astrid said making Hela smile as she takes Astrid's hand and stretched it towards Troels who sniffed it before putting his snout on her palm surprising Astrid.

"See he's not a bloodthirsty monster is he," Hela asked.

"No, no he's not, but if dragons are not the monsters that we see them as then why do they keep raiding our village," Astrid asked confused.

"That is something I haven't figured out yet but if I had to guess there is something that forcing them to raid us," Hela said and Astrid nodded before she thought of something.

"Is this the Night fury Hiccup said he shot down the other night?" Astrid asked.

"No, I met Troels a year ago he was wounded badly and couldn't defend himself when I found him I protected him from a group of wild boars which gained me his trust and he has been my best friend ever since," Hela said smiling fondly at the memory with Troels nodding his head.

"so Hiccup didn't shoot down a Night fury," Astrid asked.

"Oh, no he did shoot down a Night fury it's in the cove at raven point," Hela says smiling at the surprised look on Astrid's face, "You want to go see it?"

"Yeah, sure, " Astrid says as Hela gets on Troels Astrid doing the same after hesitating a bit. She held on to Hela's waist as Troels took off at high speed towards ravens point. They got there in seconds Troels landed on a cliff overlooking the cove. They saw Hiccup sitting on a bolder drawing the head of night fury with a stick the Night fury walked over and stood behind him and saw that he was being drawn so he walked off to a small tree uprooted it and started scribbling all around Hiccup.

When it was done it nodded its head in satisfaction and Hiccup stood up walked around before he stepped on one of the lines making the night fury growl in warning, he lifts his foot up it stops growling. He starts to carefully walk out of the night furies drawing, he doesn't know he was walking to the dragon until he felt its breath on his neck making him turn around and he puts his hand towards the dragon and it growls lowly making Hiccup stretch out his hand while he turned away and the night fury finally accepted the bond.

"That was cute and awesome at the same time," Astrid said making Hela and Troels chuckle.

"well it looks like Hiccup found his calling," Hela says with a smile as watched her younger brother who everyone said was useless, bond with a Night fury as she did.

"This night fury looks smaller than Troels," Astrid said.

"Yes he is I'd say he's Hiccup's age while Troels is ancient," Hela said before getting slapped on the back of the head by Troels's tail, "I meant young and handsome"

"it's getting kind of late" Astrid said as she watched the sunset.

"Yeah it is let's go back to the village," Hela says as they say good night to Troels.

"And with one twist, he took my hand and swallowed it whole. I saw the look on his face... I was delicious. He must have passed the word because it wasn't a month before another one took my leg" Gobber says retelling how he lost his hand and leg.

"isn't it weird to think your hand was inside a dragon? like if your mind was still in control of it, you could have killed the dragon from the inside by crushing its heart or something" Fishlegs says sitting next to hela and Astrid who was sitting on Hela's lap as they listened.

"I swear I'm so angry right now. I'll avenge your beautiful hand and beautiful foot. I'll chop off legs of every dragon I fight with my face" Snotlout says mailing Hela and Astrid roll their eyes.

"it's the wings and tails you really want. If it can't fly it can't get away, a down dragon is a dead dragon" Gobber says getting Hiccup's attention as he gets up leaves.

"Where did your brother go," Astrid asked in a whisper

"if I had to guess he's going to make his night fury a new tail fin" Hela whispered back
