Chapter 119 -- Eyes

"Where are they?" William asked. "He and a few others had been covertly moving through the village in an effort to find their noble visitors, to no luck.

"Beats me, could they have left the village?" another elder said. William sighed, he was afraid that his village failed to impress the nobles.

"But they couldn't just leave without talking to the chief, could they?" William asked.

"Actually they could" the elder said nonchalantly.

One of the village children suddenly ran into the village hall before going to whisper something in the ears of an elder.

The elder opened his eyes in surprise before furrowing his brows in confusion. "Anything to share with the rest of us" the other elders asked.

"Our scouts found them, apparently from the time we welcomed them at the gate, they immediately went to the chief's farm" the noble reported.

"Mine!?" William said as he stood up, preparing to head to his farm.

"No not yours, the other chief" the noble stopped William who was halfway towards the door.

"Ohh they went to see Owen. It makes sense though that they would want to talk to someone of authority in the village, but Owen can't talk" William said.

The mood in the room immediately changed as everyone remembered that fateful day.

"But who told them that we have a new chief?, or were he stays?" an elder said.

"They are nobles from Willow city, I'm sure everything we do is watched" another elder snorted.

"I still haven't finished" the elder who was told the news said.

"Not only did they directly go to Owen's farm, they seemed to know Olivia very well since she cried and hugged them as soon as they set eyes on each other" the elder finished.

That information confused the men even more, Olivia and Owen have never left the village before. How do they know nobles that well?.

It was at this point that William and Carter's eyes opened in shock, surprise and a hint of happiness.

"Zane!!" They both shouted.

"Who the fuck is Zane?"

Zane blitzed through the forest like a white lightning bolt. Since his sight problem was sort of fixed, Zane could now use his full speed.

"Okay i could get used to this!" Zane laughed as he narrowly evaded a low lying branch by sliding on his knees.

However his fun was short lived as he soon arrived at the end of the forest. From then on he had to walk normally otherwise people would question his sanity.

Walking through the clearing leading to his parents fields, Zane noticed the two farmhands looking at him strangely. To quench his curiosity he walked over to their position.

"Good afternoon" Zane greeted.

"Afternoon sir" The two slightly bowed but their eyes bever left Zane's face.

"Is something the matter?" Zane asked.

"No my lord, we apologize" The man said as he nudged for the woman to continue working.

Their respect for Zane was due to the fact that first of all he was obviously related to their employers, second was that he was a noble.

"Okay" Zane walked away in utter confusion.

'Alex I'm not crazy right?' he asked.

<<No they were definitely looking at you strangely. Maybe your breakthrough had some cosmetic effects>> Alex hypothesized.

"Well we're about to find out" Zane said as he noticed Cora waiting for him a few meters away. Only then did he notice that Cora was actually very attractive.

Before, he never used any extra mana to check her out, but now because he didn't need to release mana to see. He had the luxury of admiring all he wanted.

<<She's your family dude>> Alex reminded.

"I didn't say anything" Zane defended. He and Alex both knew that he wasn't really related to her though.

"What's with your eyes?" Cora said as Zane got close to her.

"Sorry" Zane apologized, only then did he realize that his eyes lingered on a certain part of her body for a little bit too long.

"Is it a spell of some sort or did it happen after the breakthrough" Cora got closer to Zane and pulled up his chin so she could have a better look.

"What are you talking about?" Zane was confused.

"Your eyes are glowing white" Cora said as she moved his eyelids to check his eyeball better.

"What!?" Zane was shocked. 'Alex what's she talking about?'

<<I have no idea, i can't see you>> Alex answered, proving to be completely useless to Zane.

"So you don't know about it huh?" Cora said, still inspecting Zane and consulting her knowledge about magic to see if she can solve the mystery.

"What does it look like?" Zane asked desperately. Obviously this was some kind of side effect for what he dubbed 'mana vision'.

"Your normally white iris are now glowing as i said before, so much so that i can barely even see your pupils."

(See book cover)

"I could see your eyes before i even saw you. That's why i was waiting outside." Cora said.

Zane nodded as he used his mana to check his eyes thoroughly. What he saw was that fifty percent of all the mana in his body was concentrated in his eyeballs.

He then tried to move some of the mana elsewhere, hoping that the glowing would stop, however to his amazement he couldn't even budge the mana in his eyes.

He could move the mana in his eyelids but couldn't reach his eyeballs no matter how hard he tried. As a last ditch effort, Zane closed his eyes....then he couldn't see anything.

<<Good plan Genius>> Alex mocked.

'Alex this is serious!' Zane mind shouted. It was really annoying that his companion didn't care about the new development.

<<What's so serious about it?>>

'Even though i have never see anyone's eye color, I'm pretty sure none of them glow' Zane said.

<<So what if your eyes glow, mages have a lot of secrets. You could say it's certain technique you developed to improve eyesight>>

'Ohhh, that could help'

<<You worry to much>>

'Do you blame me?'

"Once we get back to the city we will have someone check you" Cora said, finally taking her eyes off Zane's.

"Thanks but that's not necessary. It's actually a technique i developed, I just didn't know it would make my eyes glow" Zane explained.

"Ohh what kind of technique is it?" Cora asked with interest.

"The secret kind" Zane began walking double time towards his house.

Cora looked at Zane's back with narrowed eyes 'Why can't i feel any mana coming from him. I can tell he broke through but his body doesn't have even a shred of mana, i also can't feel his core. It's like he's not even alive' she thought.

Taking out an object from her ring "Patriarch, you said to report to you if something doesn't add up. Well something doesn't add up about our new golden boy" she reported.
