Chapter 120 -- World energy, pure mana and buckets

In all the excitement of the breakthrough, he had almost forgotten the reason he broke through in the first place.

He quickly made his way to his father and found Olivia feeding him something. Since Owen couldn't move any part of his body he also couldn't suck through the straw.

Finding a way around this, Olivia used a soft bottle with the straw attached to the lid. This way she could force the straw through Owen's teeth before squeezing the food directly into his mouth.

All Owen had to do was swallow, and even that seemed to be hard as he would take more than a minute to fully swallow a single squeeze of whatever he was being fed.

When Olivia was finally done, Zane touched Owen's arm "It's time to wake up Father"

Half an hour before Zane went back to the farm, just after the breakthrough.

"Come" Zane said.

Mana from the air started to flow towards his hand before forming a sphere above his open palm. Zane couldn't help but smile as he moved his hands around, the mana following his hand movements.

Zane then did a throwing motion and the mana ball flew away at a speed which made it practically invisible. After it flew for a few meters it disappeared as it got mixed with the rest of the world energy.

Zane wrote the letter "Z" with his finger in the air and the world energy concentrated for a few instants, following his finger and writing the Z in mid air. (Author's note : World energy is just pure mana found in the environment, mostly in the air)

Over the next few minutes, Zane experimented what he could do with the world energy and he discovered that he could practically control it like it was part of his own body.

Even going as far as making a suit of armor, covering his entire body "If only this mana was physical" Zane mumbled after making a gigantic sword.

<<That would make you overpowered>> Alex commented. The world energy Zane was manipulating was pure mana, just like the mana in his body.

Pure mana was color less, odor less and most importantly matter less. <<Try compressing it, maybe it will gain physical properties>> Alex suggested.

Zane did as Alex said but even after compressing 100 square meters of mana into a thirty centimeter long knife, he couldn't even cut a blade of grass. Much less cut it, he couldn't even make it bend, the mana would just phase through it.

"It's more like air"

<<Actually not exactly, air can turn into wind with enough power to a house dust>>

Zane sighed "This thing is useless then, heck since it's pure mana I'm most likely the only person in the world who can even see it" he said.

<<It might not be as useless you think>> Alex said. Zane wanted to ask what Alex was talking about but he didn't need to.

"Of course!, since this is pure mana. The same pure mana which is in my body, i can probably absorb it" Zane then created a ball of mana before willing for it to come into his hand.

However, when the mana was a few millimeters away from his skin, it stopped moving completely and no matter how much effort Zane put, he couldn't touch the mana, much less absorb it.

<<I stand corrected, it's useless>> Alex mind sighed.

'Wait a second, what about my healing factor' Zane quickly cut his hand and before he could even think about healing himself, the mana in that part of the hand did the job.

"Did you do that?" he asked Alex.

<<No your body healed on it's own>> Alex said, also quite confused about the turn of events.

<<Look on the bright side, in a life or death fight, you don't need to stop and heal anymore>>

"Yeah woo hoo I'm so happy" Zane said sarcastically. Honestly, he was disappointed at how insignificant the Mage realm was for him.

That was when Zane noticed the world energy gathering above his hand before being absorbed into his body, replacing the mana he used to heal himself.

'Huh?' Zane tried once more to absorb the world energy, but like the first time, he failed to even touch it.

"Any ideas"

<<Yes, i think we should imagine your body as a bucket of water. Right now the is full so you can't add anymore water>>

<<The water in this case is mana, you know that right?>>

"Got it"

<<You would need to spill some before you can add more.>>

"Of course in this case my bucket automatically refills itself" Zane interjected.

<<You read my mind>>

"How about healing others?" Zane asked "What would happen if instead of spilling some of my water i use a cup to transfer it into another bucket?"

<<Only one way to find out>>

It didn't take long for Zane to find a suitable test subject. In this case it was a fox, which Zane quickly and easily captured.

Feeling compassionate, Zane just cut the leg of the fox, creating a small wound instead of ripping the entire leg off.

First Zane tried to move the world energy to the wound, however just like what happened to his own body, the world energy couldn't touch the body of the fox.

Zane them touched the fox's wound and healed it like he usually did, and it worked. Of course the mana used to heal the fox came from Zane's own body.

A few seconds later, the world energy concentrated and filled up Zane's 'bucket'.

"That's good i guess" Zane sighed as he let the fox go.

"Now i don't need to kill for mana" he said, quite relieved. It would have been annoying to have to hunt after every few days. Especially now that Zane was part of a noble family, he didn't have as much freedom as before. He now had people he had to report to.

However he now also had people who could protect him.

"Alex show me the system interface"

<Name : Zane Willer>

<Exst realm : Rank One Mage (0 absorbed cores)>

<Body 1 : Lvl (2%)>

'As i suspected, the mana points are gone' Zane thought.

<<Zane what are you going to tell Charles Willer?>>

"About what?"

<<He is expecting to see a lightning Mage remember>>

"I will just tell the truth, i had no element and i had to lie in order to protect myself from knowledgeable powerful people" Zane shrugged.

"Let's go find out what's wrong with father"

Zane discovered that his mana sensitivity was so high, especially with his own mana, that with enough concentration, be could actually scan something by sending his mana inside it.

If the world energy was like another arm for him, then the pure mana in his body was like a finger. Zane could feel everything the mana touched and he planned to use this sensitivity to go inside Owen's body and find out what the problem was.
