Chapter 118 -- Breakthrough

"I would like to do this alone" Zane said as he saw that Cora was preparing to follow him.

"I was ordered to protect you" Cora refused.

"Well i am telling you I don't need protection, and i also don't want you watching me" Zane said firmly.

"Why?, it's not like it's something I've never seen before" Cora refused to waver.

"Cora, I have secrets i would rather you not know about" Zane exclaimed.

"You are now part of my family so whatever you think is secret shouldn't be for us" Cora said.

"Then as family you should trust me" Zane stood his ground, he couldn't risk anyone seeing him breakthrough until he explained everything to Charles.

"Fine be quick" Cora caved as she turned around and went back into the house, where Olivia was waiting with a cup of tea and a plate of bread.

Zane sighed and ran into the forest, as soon as he got far enough he sat down cross legged and brought out a mana core.

<Grade one mana core absorbed>

<9 10 mana cores absorbed>

<ERROR! >

'Alex what's the error for?' Zane asked.

<<It's something to do with the rewards don't worry about it>> Alex explained.

'Okay' Zane nodded before taking out the last core needed for him to breakthrough.

<<What are you waiting for?>> Alex noticed Zane's hesitation.

"What if teacher's hypothesis is wrong?" Zane said out loud.

<<Then you will focus on cultivating the body>> Alex said nonchalantly.

Zane heaved a sigh, he had totally forgotten about that part. Even though he might not be able to do any elemental magic he still had his strength and healing factor.

"Here goes everything" Zane said. It didn't take long for the mana core in his hands to disappear and get absorbed into his body.

Zane suddenly felt like every square inch of his body was being stabbed by countless needles as he felt mana rush out of his body through his pores.

The mana revolved around him, creating a colorless vortex of pure mana. The vortex surged and grew into a circle of diameter forty meters, with Zane in the center.

A few seconds later, the vortex started shrinking and the mana got absorbed back into Zane's body, settling in every atom of his being.

If Zane could see himself, he was currently glowing faintly as the mana settled in his body instead of his core. That was because Zane didn't have a mana core at all.

The mana finally settled in his body and Zane could immediately feel that his mana sensitivity had increased.

Opening his eyes, Zane was shocked to see his surroundings. It wasn't that there was something wrong about his surroundings, rather it was the fact that he hadn't used any of his sight methods but he could see like he used a sight grenade.

Zane could see everything around him like it was infused with mana, like everything around him was a mana beast. Looking up at the sky, Zane was shocked to actually see the sun, even though it was white like everything else.

In Zane's eyes everything was made of different shades of white, with the stuff which obviously had little mana, like rocks, appearing grey.

Living objects like trees insects and animals glowing. Their intensity depending on how much mana they had in their beings.

Zane looked at his own hands and he was glowing like a lightbulb in a dark alley at midnight. His whole body had so much mana that if Zane plucked out a single hair from his head, he could still see it from a mile away.

"Alex explain"

<<Which part?>>

"My sight"

<<So when you were still mortal could see mana right. Either your own mana, cores or based spells>>

<<However, before, for you to see mana it either had be concentrated or being actively used. Even though were still very sensitive back then compared other Mages, couldn't hold a candle your sensitivity right now>>

<<Your mana sensitivity has risen by three fold, meaning that doesn't need to be concentrated for you see it anymore. You can now all, everytime, without needing concentrate your and or release>>

<<And since this world has more mana than oxygen you can't call yourself blind anymore. Everything and can see all so everything>> Alex explained, Zane could feel the happiness in his voice.

"That's great, now I don't need to save mana fearing that i will go blind" Zane smiled as he watched a line of ants entering their hill.

However he then discovered something else, Since Zane could now see everything. He lost his X-ray vision. Of course it wasn't a big deal so he just shrugged it off.

"Wait" Zane focused on his mana core and tried to move some mana to his palm. However he noticed that nothing happened.

Even though Zane was a newly awakened Mage, he instinctively knew what he had to do in order to cast a spell, however nothing worked.

He couldn't feel a mana core in his body, neither could he see it. In fact, when it came to that department, Zane felt like he was still mortal.

<<I have bad news Zane>>

Zane sighed in disappointment. The only consolation was that he didn't have high hopes in the first place. Zane knew that Aurora wouldn't let him become that powerful anyway.

However he still hoped it would come true "I guess Old man's dream of discovering a 'Mana prodigy' is still going to be a dream huh" Zane said with sadness in his voice.

<<It's not the end of line Zane, as i said before worst case scenario you become a powerful healer>> Alex consoled.

Zane nodded but was still feeling down "What else can you tell me about myself now?" he asked. as he inspected his own body.

He realized that he could now control the mana in his body far easier, and the connection with his mana made him able to check every part of his body.

"Alex where's my core?" he asked in confusion. No matter how hard he looked, he couldn't find his mana core.

<<You don't have one. A mana core is a compressed sphere of mana. That always in the form your elemental aptitude>>

<<A fire Mage's core is made of elemental mana, a water Mage has one mana and so on>>

<<However, you don't have an element so your mana is in it's pure form, and too dangerous to be compressed into a core. Your body would explode dust>>

<<However in light of all this, you are still a Mage so your mana, instead being compressed into core, it was evenly distributed body>>

"That's why I'm glowing" Zane mumbled as he looked at his hands.

<<Correct, your body is just like of a non elemental mana beast right now>> Alex said.

Zane nodded, he could feel that his body was slightly stronger than before. His senses had also seen an upgrade, especially his hearing. Zane knew that if he focused he could hear up to two miles away, that is if there wasn't any other sound except for the one he would be listening to.

Looking at the tiny microscopic mana particles in the air, Zane suddenly felt something and he raised his hand.

"Come" he said.

Mana from the air started to flow towards his hand before forming a sphere above his open palm.
