Chapter 3 Nawaki

When he heard what Jonin team he placed on, he was quite surprised. Chen. A quite renowned Jonin of Konoha at that time. Considering Chen was a good taijutsu user, perhaps he could learn some good taijutsu moves.

After a simple introduction, Leon finds out who his other team mate is. Woody Guan, probably a relative of Rock Lee, and Inari Nara, a simple boy from Nara Clan.

Knowing his team mate, Leon almost chuckles. Wood is so much like Rock Lee, enthusiast and very active. Inari was a Nara, no question asked. While he was not the smartest, he still retained Nara laziness. They pass the Genin test with ease. Leon and Inari was able to curb Guan hot headedness to make a good team. Mostly Leon with a lot of threatening. You don't stay 3 years in Shinobi academy without getting something out.

For one Chen is a good teacher for them. Better than being under Danzo and root. He always force them to do physical training and taijutsu training.

"Using flashy jutsu could do much damage, but if it doesnt hit, you are screwed. Unless you are born from a strong Shinobi Clan with high Chakra reserves, it is also the closest way to death. Smarter Shinobi only need their body and mind to win a fight with the least use of Chakra" what Leon said.

What Leon is most focused on the most of all his Shinobi arts is to train ways to escape. In his past life there is one Chinese Novel he really liked. The character motto is really good. Be cautious, ability to escape is the most important, do not leave any trace of your involvement if you must act, always prepare for the worst. One reason he was interested a lot was the shunshin jutsu, earth mole jutsu, and ability to hide his chakra and life signature. The best jutsu to run away is probably Hiraishin, but it was too troublesome to master.

In the past he was interested in getting some doujutsu implants or augmenting himself with Kekkei genkai skill like Orochimaru.That dream was dashed when the System answered "Getting augmentation, organ implant in Quest world can be considered getting external equipment, so it would be counted in final point analysis". In other words, even if he get it, those things would be less powerful than they should be.

Damn! So no Sharingan, or implanting a kekkei genkai Chimera like Hiruko. So at best he could only learn skills and jutsu, and if there is a kekkei genkai this original body own.

Daily training and D Mission was done for a few months. Considering newly graduated Genin knows nothing. Chen drills the rest of his team like crazy. One person he trained the most beside Leon is Guan.

One thing that is different is there are Uzumaki clans, mostly youngsters and civilians in the village. There is news that the Uzumaki as a Shinobi village was dispersed silently. Well it was quite a struggle as when Uzumaki Shinobi moved to Konoha, they really were attacked relentlessly by Kiri, Kumo, and Iwa Shinobi. Perhaps there are also Roots mixed in there pretending to be foreign Shinobi. From 300 or so Uzumaki Shinobi evacuating to Konoha, barely 10 survive reaching Konoha. From Konoha who helped the evacuation, 100 shinobi were killed.

Leon also watches a young Kushina and her parents residing in Senju compound. He also sees small Nagato. It seems his small meddling at least rescued some Uzumaki from the Main Family that have influence on .

Another sign of his meddling to Konoha is a Medical Training mandatory class for active Shinobi. This is one class that Leon quickly joined. The ability to heal himself or others in dangerous conditions is a must have.

Fourth year passed by in the flash after his entry to this world. Inari, Tsunade, and Orochimaru just got promoted to Chunin through Chunin Exams.

Sadly Jiraiya and Guan were not promoted that year. Guan got more training time from Chen. Leon deliberately resigns on the third competition by claiming he depleted his chakra.

"You are the last person I think would resign on the third test," says Tsunade.

"I feel I am not good enough to be a Chunin, perhaps next year" answer Leon

"You just want to get away from Chunin duty are you?" Tsunade

"Well, I am not under Hokage sama. I am not from prominent Shinobi Noble clans, so it would be better for me to be low key"

"You really are strange" Tsunade deadpan.

"We are Shinobi, remember? Smart Shinobi always needs to be low key, low key Shinobi always dies of old age" say Leon with pride.

Tsunade just exasperated watching her friend like that. From all her acquaintances, Leon probably was the strangest one. She even thinks that Leon has Nara blood in him. She knows from all her friends in her generation, Leon is the most capable, but strangely he try to be the less impressive one.

"Haah, if only my brother had your mindset. I am worried if he leave the village on mission someday with his personality" say Tsunade with worry.

"Well, you could introduce me to your brother if you want to. I straighten him up to have a proper Shinobi mindset" say Leon.

Nawaki Senju, Tsunade's little brother, is just entering the Shinobi academy. At that time both of them are what's left of the main Senju family. Most others blend in and change their names, or died in the past Shinobi war.

So Tsunade asked Grandma Mito to make Leon be a Genin tutor for Nawaki. It is quite common to put a D-Mission for Genin to accompany Academy kids. Mito agrees as she sees that Leon's personality is quite good.

In OTL, Nawaki acts just like Naruto does. One thing that he lacks is a proper big brother and father figure to train him. Their parents died in the First Shinobi War. Only their Grandmother was left behind.

So it is no wonder that Tsunade decided to leave the village after the death of Dan Kato in OTL. After his death, Tsunade no longer had anyone left. Her last living relatives died, her beloved also dies. Branch family of Senju no longer exists as they meld into the Konoha civilian population. And from the Main Family she was the only one left.

Leon knows that from all the people he knew, Nawaki was in the most danger. There are forces in Konoha that try to prevent another Hashirama to be born. There are people from Konoha that would see Nawaki as a threat for their interest.

Leon ruled out the Shinobi noble clans like Hyuga, Uchiha, and Uzumakis. Nara doesn't have any interest, because if they do they would rather use him than kill him. Yamanaka, Aburame, Inuzuka and Akimichi are also out of question. Shimura is probably one of the main perpetrators.

While Danzo seems loyal, his loyalty values are twisted. It aint better with Hiruzen at the helms which give him free reign. Current Konoha show the demise of Clan influence on their power base, not like early days.

One thing Leon takes notice is there are tendencies in the last few years after the 1st Shinobi war ended where very talented Shinobi from clans would suddenly get killed or injured in missions. They clashed with famous Shinobi from other villages on missions. One reason he suspected that somebody deliberately makes them have conflicting missions.

This is also one reason why being asked by Tsunade to teach Nawaki about the danger of the Shinobi world is something that he takes priority. Leon remembers that in the manga and anime, Nawaki dies from explosion injuries. So he taught Nawaki to be cautious.

Hiddenly causing so many shaming pranks, sometimes causing fear of death in his spare time so that kid grow his awareness is quite fun. Constant vigilance is a good trait for a Shinobi right?
