Slow and Steady

A pile of autumn leaves that was nicely laid on the ground burst open, with Claw coming out from it with joyous energy. Kyle was currently at the park testing some stuff out with Claw.

"You're sort of like me, but in the end, you're just still a kid huh?" Kyle was telling Claw as it just ignored him to keep playing in the leaves.

"Okay… So it says you're a Pafumon with the level, Fresh. I'm assuming that's the starting stage. But the entrance exam requires at least an In-Training level. How do digimons even evolve or whatever…?"

Information on digimon was scarce for the ordinary folk. The Digi-App was no help too. From what Kyle know, the internet especially is controlled by digimons with the support of the government so that most info on digimons can't be easily searched up. There are some physical books written about them but they go for thousands and are illegal.

Kyle was irritated why they were being so secretive. The only ones granted access are those with a Tamer license but you're required to attend a Digimon Academy first for that.

He heard from some students who too got themself a egg, that they just randomly evolved after a few months. Though, he didn't have that much time left. Just two months till the entrance exam after all.

While Claw was still playing around in the pile of leaves, a woman carrying a leash with her pet dog passed by. "Oh hey there! Was that a little puppy I saw?"

The woman was a little off-putted by how Kyle didn't respond to her, but continued walking closer anyway. Meanwhile, Kyle was lost in thought thinking of what to do. Claw noticed and jumped out of the pile, then floated in front of his face.

"OH my!? That's not a puppy!" The woman immediately stopped her movements, and her dog, noticing her fright, started barking.

Both Kyle and Claw still ignoring them, they looked at each other as if trying to read the other's thoughts.

"Hey Claw, can you just evolve for me?" Kyle just spat out a random thought he had. But Claw responded with a nod, with a look that said, 'That's all? Why didn't you just ask me sooner?'

All of a sudden, Claw's body started being coated with a bright white. Kyle's eyes widened at this spectacle. Claw was actually evolving. Underneath the coating of light, his body was morphing and changing in all sorts of way. Until finally… It was done, and he dropped back down to the ground.

The woman and her dog had ran away during this process, screaming and terrified at what was happening. As Kyle looked over to see she was gone, he tilted his head. "Weird. She never seen a digimon before? Probably from the countryside…"

But now as Kyle leaned down to look at Claw, he saw an entirely different form. Much larger now, the size of football, it was still covered with white fluffy fur, had bright red stripes above it's eyes, and a big tail with purple patterns on it. Kyle felt a notification from his phone and immediately went to check it.

"Kyaromon… That was… fast?" You couldn't tell from his face, but Kyle was definitely shocked. It's only been barely a week since it hatched. Now out of nowhere, it evolved? And it's also acting like it could have evolved at any moment prior?

"Can you…evolve again?" Kyle asked with some hope, but Claw just shook it's head. "Yeah figured."

Honestly, Kyle had no idea if this was normal or not. But he wasn't too worried about that, since now, he got the In-Training Digimon that he needed for the entrance exam. Now all that's left to do was prepare.

As Kyle leaned over to grab it, Claw turned around and jumped back into the pile of leaves, and after a while, jumped back out as Pafumon.

"Interesting, so you can change back anytime…" Kyle kept that in mind.
