Chapter 34: College in C Country

After dinner, Su Ning spent some more time chatting downstairs with her parents and Grandma Gu. Gu YuChen on the other hand, had gone upstairs to his room in an inexplicably somber mood.

Gu YuChen had been working on his laptop but he found he was unable to concentrate as thoughts of Su Ning's words kept repeating in his mind. It appeared that Su Ning had no intention of staying with them after high school. 'Why was it so easy for her to cut connections with him and Lin JinYan?' he worried. In fact, he had been feeling insecure for a while. Su Ning is beautiful and kind to everyone; he is certain more people will begin to approach her when she starts attending M Academy.

If she attends a university in C Country, he would be able to monitor her movements but it might be too late if he needs to take action. He needed to make sure Su Ning is safe from any retaliation from his and Lin JinYan's enemies.Gu YuChen has to go abroad in a year to pursue his studies and build more connections. He has been slowly growing his financial influence however he is aware that a lot more power is necessary to crush Gu Han and Song Rui's faction. In the meantime, he would have to rely on Lin JinYan to keep the pests away from Su Ning. They would be required to come up with another plan when Lin JinYan leaves C Country to attend the Royal Academy of Music.

He was in the middle of his thoughts when Gu YuChen received a phone call from his business partner Ouyang Jun.

[Ouyang Jun]: YuChen! Why did you decline the invite for the 'Rose Wars' launch party?

[Gu YuChen]: Busy.

[Ouyang Jun]: With what?! It's Sun Fox's second game launch after 3 years! What is more important that you are leaving your co-founder alone on that day?

[Gu YuChen]: Su Ning's birthday.

[Ouyang Jun]: …

[Gu YuChen]: If you are done I'm hanging up.

[Ouyang Jun]: Wait! Can't you just catch up to her party after the launch or take her with you? It will only be a few hours.

[Gu YuChen]: No.

[Ouyang Jun]: …

[Gu YuChen]: In the future you are also not allowed to pick up my phone calls in the office. And don't let Su Ning call you gege.

[Ouyang Jun]: … Ei! Are you ser… Hello?...Hello!? Wah Kao! You really hung up on me?

The unfortunate Ouyang Jun was left speechless staring at the phone on his hand. This type of possessiveness over a girl is too much bah? Su Ning is not even his real sister or his girlfriend. Ouyang Jun thought sadly that he will have to face the reporters alone at the launch his heart felt a little heavy. 'I should request a pay raise.' thought Ouyang Jun.

Soon after Gu YuChen finished his call with Ouyang Jun, Su Ning came into his room carrying a bowl of fruits. Su Ning had placed the bowl on his table and sat on a nearby chair.

"Gu YuChen, eat some fruits you left before you could have any earlier." Su Ning said with a smile.

Gu YuChen took a look at the fruits in the bowl and he glanced at Su Ning with a knowing half smile. It was all the fruits that she didn't like to eat.

"You picked out the ones you liked." It was a statement not a question.

"Hehe. YuChen-gege knows me so well ah." Su Ning said with an unembarrassed smile.

Gu YuChen shook his head and began to eat however Su Ning noted that his mood doesn't seem to be as good compared to earlier.

"YuChen-gege did something happen at work? You don't seem too happy." (Su Ning)

"Not work." (Su Ning)

"Personal stuff?" 'Could it be his girlfriend? They are having issues? It's too early bah.' Su Ning thought.

However, Su Ning's mind that had gone in a completely different direction was soon brought back to reality by Gu YuChen.

"Su Ning, won't you consider attending university overseas?" Gu YuChen had intentionally left out the words 'with me' for fear of pressuring her.

"Ah.. YuChen-gege was thinking about this as well? Both B Uni and T Uni have good engineering programs and it will cost a lot less too. Are you worried I am giving up some good opportunities by not studying abroad?" She tentatively asked. Gu YuChen did not respond and just waited for her to continue.

Su Ning thought for a while before resuming, "Actually, it's not that I've never thought of going abroad. Just I don't want to rely on Grandma Gu to pursue my higher education. If there was a scholarship program in a nice school then of course I would take the chance to apply but I am completely fine to study university in C Country as well. I hope you understand." ' In fact in my past life it was even a dream of mine to at least do a summer abroad program or take a trip out of C Country but I just didn't have enough money. Now I think I will be able to go on trips like normal people since I would be able to find stable employment after college and I don't have any debts to pay off.' Su Ning contentedly mused.

Gu YuChen thought of Su Ning's response and nodded, "Okay I understand."

'If there is no scholarship, then I just have to make one.' he thought with resolve.
