Anything For Mom

My eyes still whirled in confusion as my head gently sunk into the bed's soft embrace. My hands spread across the bed and I slowly moved them up and down in comfort as though I was making a snow angel.

'Am I still alive?' I questioned myself, as I kept myself awake. The fear of being in the grasp of the darkness gripped me tighter than I ever held a girl.

I was shy towards girls, timid, and at times made fun of. I wasn't one of those creepy boys that shamelessly stared at girls, admiring them regardless of the girl's opinions.

"Wake up! It's late Levi!"

The harsh voice disrupted my quietness as I turned my face to the window. The sun hadn't risen which was a clear sign that the day was still young.

I cuddled myself in fear and threw a pillow over my face. Still, in confusion, I rolled around on the bed in fear and suddenly got struck with a thought.

"Wait, wasn't that my dad's voi-?" I immediately heard a slam louder than the resounding sound of the broken vase.

With light rushing in, I turned my face, squinting my eyes and trying to adjust my vision. I sighted a shadow; a shadow of a man with a firm physique that was complimented by his blue suit.

His hair was fashionably long and styled, emitting even greater beauty from his face. While I lay on the bed, trying to decipher who was at my door, I saw him slowly advance.

His face held an unusual expression that quickly evolved into a frown. His large body advanced, making him look seemingly like a giant. His vast palm wrapped around my wrist and my body felt as light as a feather.

I immediately got suspended in the air and dragged like a ragdoll. Before I fell face-flat on the floor, I planted my feet into the ground in an attempt to halt his harsh actions.

"Dad? What are you doing?"

I heard a murmur in a low voice. It was too deep to understand but based on his tone, it sounded like he was extremely disappointed.

As my dad dragged me out of the room, I took a closer look at his face and was struck by shock. His face was a mix of happiness and encouragement.

It was quite confusing to understand his intent and I couldn't make sense out of it.

"You're in your clothes already. It's good to see that you're finally complying, son." He spoke in a light yet frighteningly deep tone that both scared and comforted.

Amidst this new joy he expressed, I couldn't endure the pains of his tight hands and I slowly lifted them from my wrist.

As soon as he felt my hands pushing against his, he shouted at me, his eyes as though they were on the verge of watering.

'What's going on with dad?' I asked myself, 'Has he gone insane?'. He acted like he had lost all sanity and at that point, I would be completely justified if I chose to question him further but I chose not to.

His actions proved that there was something amiss and I tried my best not to add to his emotional issues.

"Today you're going to the academy!" He said, breaking the the the the the the silence.

I felt a high level of disgust and I immediately detached myself from his grip.

"Dad I said no! At least not this early in the story."

I knew I would eventually be forced to do it and I had a strong feeling that my actions were being recorded in a top-notch fantasy novel.

It was while I was immersed in my oblivious thoughts that I felt a vibration in my pocket, where I kept my phone.

'That's true, he hasn't messaged me.' I remembered a friend of mine who had planned to meet with me later that day.

I dipped my hand in my pocket and lifted my phone. I scrutinized the bright screen in search of his message.

'What he hasn't sent anything?'

"Levi, did you hear me!" My dad shouted in my ear, trying to get my attention.

I silently walked with him murmuring in affirmation to his words while I thought of the absence of my expected message.

As soon as my mom heard the voice of my dad, she rushed out of her room. The house was immensely big and it took a reasonable amount of effort to reach the door, giving my mom enough time to confront my dad.

"Please stop this madness," she spoke with tears nearly descending from her eyes.

"Let him do what he wants" she continued as she advanced to my dad, slowly massaging his arms.

It was disgusting to me at the time; to watch a romance movie but instead of strangers being the cast, they were my parents.

I took advantage of the unusual occurrence and backed off from the scene but my dad's spatial awareness caught me off guard.

He turned his head, his eyes maintaining a direct view of mine. His face emanated a spine-chilling aura, immobilizing my legs.

'Why am I afraid of my dad?' I thought as I stared at him. He slowly shifted his focus to my mom and after several arguments, he raised his hand at her.

I was filled with regret at the moment, seeing his palms about to descend on her.

'Mom, this can't be!' I ran to my mom in a bid to protect her from my dad's wrath but I knew I wouldn't make it in time.

What could I do? There was nothing to do except run and hope for the best, but out of desperation, I let out a scream.

"No Dad!" My voice cracked a bit, but I felt the sacrifice was too little for a reward such as saving my mom from my dad.

"I'll follow you to the academy, Dad," I said without any nonchalance and regret. I was ready to do anything to end the constant arguments and I had just found the answer.

"I'm going to work, and you Levi, you're coming with me." He stormed back into his room as he arranged the light blue shirt he was wearing.

"Levi you don't have to do thi-" I disrupted my mom from her statement, assuring her that it was my choice and she left in shock and sadness.p
