Desperate To Live

*Maybe my soulmate died. Idk. Or maybe I don’t have a soul* - Iamnotshane. Jayden lives by only two rules. Rule 1: Never fall in love. Rule 2: Always remember rule one. He has always followed this principle after learning that he has stage four cancer and has only a few months to live. Jayden chose not to hurt any women as long as they did not fall in love with him because he was a cold handsome playboy who carries a deadly aura, but adored by all. His gray eyes were ravishing, and he had exquisite flawless skin. He was adored by everyone until he met a girl named Freda. Freda was a twenty-nine-year-old autistic patient, and Jayden was twenty-seven years old cancer patient. On their first encounter, Jayden, who enjoys being around women, sees Freda as a red flag due to her disability and her choice of clothing. He had sworn to himself that he would never run into Freda again, but fate couldn’t be more cooperative as they continued to bump into each other. Due to an unexpected situation, Freda has no other option but to start working in Jayden’s mansion. Freda pledged that she would fix the playboy’s heart so that he would fall in love with someone because she sees no reason why he avoids being in a relationship, but little did she know that she would fall for him instead. “But what if she discovers she is in love with a cancer patient? Will she suppress her emotions or work to make Jayden’s life as happy as possible before he dies?” “Will love save the day when death calls?” This book evokes a wide range of emotions.

Don't forget your promise.

Jayden was embarrassed as he stared at his naked body. He then gazed at the lady, with his brows slightly furrowed, "Do not even dare look further down, close your eyes, lady!" He warned when he saw she was about to gaze further down.

Freda glared at him. Who asked him to come out naked? She wasn't even interested in looking at his body, Pfft!

She then said, "Before I close my eyes, I just want you to know that I'm doing so because I want to, and not because you asked me to. Humph!" She informed stubbornly before closing her eyes shut.

Jayden cursed his eighth generation for stepping out naked! Screw this lady for switching off the lights, it was all her fault. But not bad, he was quite amused by her innocent action, it was like she didn't find his attractive body appealing. Women die for his body! What an innocent freak missing on beautiful things.

His beautiful lips curled into a smile as he stared at the innocent Freda, who had her eyes tightly shut. "Don't open them, okay." He stated. He was only doing her a favor, she wouldn't be able to stand his beautiful self!

Freda nodded as she complained, "I won't open my eyes because I don't want to see your naked body. Can you please hurry up and get off me? You're a little heavy like…"

Jayden quickly interrupted her, "Enough lady! I'm going to get up." He rose from her body, with a displeased look as he watched as she shut her eyes in an innocent manner. When he finally emerged from Freda's body, he made his way to the bathroom.

Jayden slammed the bathroom door shut in one swift motion. "You are free to open them." He uttered from the restroom.

Freda slowly opened one of her eye to peep to see if he was really gone, and when she was sure he was gone, she opened her eyes completely, then smiled as she realized he was no longer in the room. She felt so awkward and decided to go to bed before he came out of the bathroom. What a strange man!

Freda was about to reach for the room switch In order to turn off the light when she realized it was connected to every bulb in the hotel room.

Exhaling, she closed her eyes and decided to sleep with the light on, but Jayden suddenly emerged from the bathroom again. But this time he was covered up. He was currently in a white bathrobe and had his clothes properly hung in the bathroom to dry.

After few moments of awkward silence he approached Freda with a forced smile on his face. "What happened earlier was a misunderstanding..." He stated attempting to ease the silent and awkward atmosphere.

Freda rose from the bed on which she had been lying, and sat properly. "I understand that was a misunderstanding..." She simply answered. Of course it was a misunderstanding! She'd off the lights not knowing it was connected with the bathroom's light!

Jayden strode towards his bed and sat down. Staring at Freda. She was really an innocent soul, he felt bad for her for some reasons. She wasn't that bad looking either.... Why was she wearing glasses to sleep?

"Why are you staring at me like that? I'm feeling disquieted." Freda stated as she adjusted her glasses.

'There's nothing to feel uncomfortable about. She should be grateful that I'm even staring at her!' He thought internally.

He shook his head in disbelief. Then lay on the bed, his left hand was used to support the pillow. He then spoke, "Who puts on glasses even when going to bed?" He questioned in curiosity

Freda was not taken aback because she believed it was normal for someone to enquire something that they were curious about. "Freda Rowan, a twenty-nine-year-old autistic patient..."

"What?" Jayden was taken aback by her sudden reply.

She then explained, "You asked who wears glasses even when going to bed, and I'm trying to tell you that I wear goggles even when sleeping." She shrugged.

Jaydan's mouth slightly hang open.

He'd just asked a sarcastic question and hadn't expected Freda to respond. He decided not to talk to the weird lady anymore. Then turned to the other said and fell asleep within some minute of closing his eyes.

Freda also turned to the other said and listened to some music as she wasn't comfortable spending the night with someone she barely knows. She doesn't trust the jerk one bit.

She finally fell asleep after listening to seven different music.

Morning flew by, and as she opened her eyes, she became immobile as she stared at a young man who was currently wrapped in a white towel around his waist.

Jayden had just finished taking his bath and wrapped a towel around his waist before exiting the bathroom. "Why do you seem like someone who has just seen a ghost?"

"Because you appear to be a pervert." Freda replied before wiping the sleep from her eyes with the back of her hands.

She has a habit of always waking up by seven o'clock in the morning, even if she was still sleepy, and the time was currently seven o'clock.

"I didn't stare at you in any sexual way; isn't that what a pervert does?" Jayden inquired because he remembered her calling him a pervert the night before. He doesn't want to deal with this childish lady, but he was curious why she referred to him as a pervert.

"I called you a pervert because you're half naked while I'm asleep. By the way, good morning." Freda said as she took her backpack and organized everything inside. She rearranged the bed from which she had just awoken, as well as Jayden's bed.

Freda was always uneasy when she notices that the things around her weren't properly arranged.

Jayden dressed in the bathroom, putting on his dried white shirt and black trouser. "All right, lady, let's go." As they walked out of the hotel room, Jayden said flatly, prompting Freda to follow him.

They both got into an elevator, and the entire ride was extremely quiet.

Jayden decided to satisfy his curiosity after exiting the elevator. "Why are you dressed in multicolored clothing?" He inquired because he had just taken note of her dress code and Freda's attire struck him as odd.

Freda wore a multicolored trouser. And a pink long sleeve top, with a green sneaker. Her red hair and multicolored clothing made her appeared strange.

"I feel more secure when I wear brightly coloured clothes." She explained as she continued walking until she reached the receptionist.

Jayden nodded in understanding as he approached the receptionist after hanging over the key to the hotel room and made his way outside.

They both stood near the hotel's front door. "It's been a pleasure spending the night with you, and I hope you keep your promise to me." Jayden stated as he stretched out his hands and extended them to Freda.

Freda thought about the promise she made to him and recalled that she promised not to cross path with him as long as it wasn't intentional. "I haven't forgotten about the promise I made to you, and I appreciate the money collaboration last night, but it isn't my pleasure to spend the night with you. Because I was uncomfortable, it took me a long time to fall asleep." She declared, and then walked away with her head bowed to a ninety degree.

She had ignored the hand Jayden had extended to her. Freda disliked all forms of physical contact, which was why she did not exchange the hand gesture with him.

"Does she think she had done me a favor? What a gullible young lady." Jayden muttered to himself as he shook his head in disbelief.

Freda walked over to her car and drove straight to her apartment. When she arrived at her house, she took a bath and changed her clothes. She wore a white suit trouser and a long white jacket, with a white long sleeve underneath.

She sat in front of the mirror, braiding her ginger hair into two equal halves. She took a new backpack from her closet. Then exited her room after putting on white sneakers and drove towards her work place.

Freda entered the company building after successfully parking her car in the parking garage.

As she walked inside the humongous building, all the workers could be seen intensely engaged in one or more activities.

"Hello and good morning." She greeted the company's manager.

She was the secretary of the manager, so she asked the manager out of curiosity. "Why are all the workers so preoccupied, Mr. Edgar."

Edgar was a young man in his late twenties, he was handsome and had a pale skin, with his messy blonde hair. He turned towards her, "The CEO of the company is coming today to see how things are going." He elaborated.

Freda had never seen the CEO of the company since she started working here. "Oh, I see..." She mumbled and was about to walk over to her desk when Edgar called out to her.

"Freda, one more thing. Because you are very good at your job, you will be the CEO's secretary starting today. I'll look for another secretary for my…"

Before he could complete his words someone shouted from a distance, interrupting his statement.

"He has arrived!"

Everybody turned towards the entrance in anticipation as the door opened. Then a handsome man elegant strode in. As everyone admired his handsomeness, Freda was frozen at the same spot.

'How could he be the CEO?!'
