Accusing Glares

As ordered by the Queen, Martha walked out of the Queen’s chamber and stopped by the door.

“How’s the Queen?” John immediately asked Martha as soon as his eyes met hers.

Martha gave a reassuring nod and replied, “She is doing fine for now. She just had a bowl of soup and is finally trying to catch some sleep.”

John didn’t ask any further questions. He was just glad to know that the Queen was eating her food.

“Umm…” Martha cleared her throat when John went back to his attentive position. And when his attention was back on her, she asked him, “Did the King come here in the night by any chance? Her Majesty was asking.”

John firmly shook his head and replied, “No. He did not.” Even if the King had come knocking on the Queen’s door, John had made up his mind to chase the King away if he showed any signs of violence or showed any ill intention toward the Queen.

Martha nodded her head and headed towards the King’s chamber without wasting a second.
