Ultimate Adaptive Evolution System

Dan Montgomery was just your average powerless dude living in a world filled with Heroes Vs Villains battles every other day. He one day received the kickass system he always dreamed of having, but never truly wanted. He just wanted to be a normal guy in a not so normal world, but fate just had other plans for him. (Note: The Slice of Life tag is there since a lot of the beginning part of the story takes place in normal life.)

Disaster brings opportunity!

Just before Dan reached the elevator, Andrei called out to him, "Dan! What the hell is happening?"

Dan quickly waved back at him, "I have no time, I'll see you all later!"

The lift arrived, and Dan arrived on the ground floor, all the while wishing the elevator would move faster. When he arrived, the rushed out the door, and noticed a familiar taxi speeding towards him. Carlson shouted to him through the open window, "Get in already, those two will be storming the place in less than 15 minutes!"

Dan practically threw himself onto the back seat. He barely closed the door of the car before they shot off down the road. It's been a long time since the roads have been this quiet. The cops must have closed the roads in a large radius. They arrived in only a couple of minutes, Dan noticed Luke and Jessica waiting near the door, as if waiting for the building's occupants to make a move. Carlson drove the taxi over to the blockade.

Dan quickly jumped out of the car, the cops already seemed to know what was going on. After Dan presented his ID, they quickly escorted him round the back of the building opposite, and through a side door. It was an office building that had already been evacuated, he quickly noticed Peter Granger and a few other heroes like Misty Knight and Angela (White Tiger), both in their hero costumes. Angela nodded to Dan, and he waved to her as they continued on up the stairs.

They decided to take the elevator to save time in the end, it was a risky manoeuvre, but they had limited time and didn't want to waste their energy. Once they reached the rooftop, Dan had to contain a gasp of surprise. A Stark tech, military-strength barricade had been setup at the top, along with top-of-the-line cameras set up at various designated notches in the barricade. Angela arrived in a blur of movement.

"I'm glad you could make it Dan, come over here, let's get you set-up!"

It's a good thing I did all that practice work with the cameras at The Front Linethese ones look a lot more complicated to use, thank god I activated that booster! Angela took him over to one of the un-used cameras, and quickly showed him what all of the unfamiliar buttons did. Dan came to a realisation after starting it up, so this is how they get all of those amazing shots, it all makes sense now.

Using the camera, he was able to zoom in as close or as far as he wanted, he could pan it all over the area without having to move it at all. Dan could adjust the FPS settings as much as he wanted too, which would allow him to capture some of the finer details later on. Now it was time to wait, a few minutes before the raid was due to start, Luke and Jessica ran over to the office building, and a heavily-armoured officer handed them two devices.

Once activated, both of them were covered head-to-toe in body armour. Angela was quick to explain, "That armour is used to resist powerful explosive rounds. Since regular or armour-piercing bullets don't work, certain gangs have started to manufacture their own knock-off Stark tech weapons.

Tony designed these new armour suits in order to combat that, these ones also contain Antarctic Vibranium, which can send out metal-melting sonic waves. We've managed to keep that information under-wraps for now. Not that most organisations are even equipped to process it in the first place."

Before Angela could elaborate any further, the door to the building in question was blown open, and several masked figures ran out. They also wore body armour, but the quality of it was much lower. The bullets naturally left no mark on Luke and Jessica's armour. As if in response to that, a vehicle crashed through, with what seemed to be an amped-up Railgun of sorts, which quickly opened fire.

Dan had luckily put on the noise-cancelling headset, but it was still incredibly loud, probably due to the Railgun's explosive rounds blowing up on their armour. Luke emerged from the explosions, completely unscathed of course, and rushed towards the vehicle, and delivered a powerful right-hook upon reaching it. The entire front of the vehicle crumpled like a sheet of A4-Paper, and the sound of glass shattering could clearly be heard.

Dan's breath caught in his throat, and he forgot to breathe for all of 16 seconds, before finally remembering to breathe out again. Jessica was up next, it seemed that the vehicle's passengers were relatively unhurt , with some minor injuries. As they jumped out, and tried to flee, she dashed up to them. Jessica punched one of them and he crashed into the side of the vehicle, denting it.

To Dan's surprise however, he stood back up, seemingly fine. He took that shot directly to the ribs, didn't he? Must be some kind of super-drug. Jessica tried again, this time delivering a roundhouse kick to the side of his face. This time, he smashed through a wall, but didn't re-emerge immediately this time. He's either dead or unconscious this time, there's no two wa- OH! As if to mock him, the man slowly emerged again.

He stumbled out of the rubble, falling over twice in the process. Luke was also making short work of his assailants, there were 5 of them in all. 3 of whom were already unconscious, Jessica was definitely holding back, but Luke had no such qualms. He didn't use lethal force, but he did knock them unconscious instantly.

Jessica ended up using well-timed neck chops to take them down, and when one one of them brought his gun out, it started to melt. Ah, the sonic waves, very effective. The man dropped what was left of the weapon as it burned his hand, he was dealt with swiftly after that. Someone patted Dan on the shoulder, and he quickly turned around to see Alejandro standing there. "You did a great job Dan, you should be proud of yourself."

Dan had accurately captured all of the key action moments when necessary. "It looks like you'll be going places very soon Dan, have you decided which department you want to work in?"

It was Angela who had asked, she gave him a thumbs-up, she was positively beaming at this point. Dan looked around him, taking in the scenery, and then back at the aftermath of the raid. "Yes, I think I have decided where I want to be."

This is where I want to be, being near to the heroes I admire, documenting their exploits, capturing their heroism on camera myself. The Hero Management Department is the place for me after all.
