Len panicked and blurted out what was supposed to be an explanation to his act earlier as we approached the car, but it sounded like a jumble of words from how flustered he was. I patted his head as we rounded the corner of the street when I noticed a vending machine nearby.
I paused, rummaging through my pocket for spare change as I then bought a cold drink. It was now sometime between fall and spring, hence why not many people are having a cold drink and also why the drink felt more like a can of ice rather than a can of drink.
Nevertheless, the drink wasn't for consumption, rather, it was a replacement for the bag of ice I couldn't get from the cafe. Len seemed puzzled by my purchase as I then guided him back to the car.
"... Here, you can wrap this in tissues or a handkerchief and use it against your swollen eyes." I handed him the can before shutting the passenger side door.
