Chapter 327

Brolan Palace, Early The following Morning,

King Herald was in a panic as the Theapan Knights grew closer to his palace. Daryl could tell from the way the king's men were in a panic on the battlefield. The Brolan dwarven knights were become less organized the closer they got to the palace.

Daryl rode his steed in battle against the dwarves. His new horse had been taken from another knight. As general he needed to be able to move quickly. The wounds he had endured were still healing. Sending pains throughout his body as he rode in battle.

"You are pushing yourself." Bredret stated the obvious to Daryl. Knowing well that Daryl was trying to hide his pain in order to avoid lowering his own side's morale. It was a feat that meant nothing to him personally.

At this rate he will work himself into a grave.. Bredret grit his teeth with a deep bellowing growl. How annoying.

Daryl looked over from his horse to see Bredret standing on the ground fighting at his side. Ever since he had gotten injured the dragon had worked hard to remain close by. The dragon had watched over Daryl while maintaining a distance. It was just like Bredret to avoid letting others know his true intention. Bredret did not like others to be aware of the fact he cared much more then he spoke.

Smiling, Daryl replied, "Are you worried?"

"You're right." Bredret answered honestly, following up with a not so serious comment added onto his answer, "I am worried I will have to take care of everything on my own if you suddenly were to stop breathing."

Daryl chuckled slightly as he replied again, his hand was still busy cutting down enemies with his sword, his heart racing with adrenaline from the battle, "I can endure at least this much."

Endure? You? A human? Bredret felt like a blood vessel would burst from how annoyed he felt when he heard that remark from Daryl.

"Hah!" Daryl managed to cut down another dwarven rider as he was rushing to pass by Daryl. As the kaze under the dwarf was moving, Daryl's sword pierced right through the kaze's chest. The beast tumbled sending the dwarf rolling across the ground. It only took a matter of second for Bredret to grab the dwarf and crush his windpipe with his bare hand.

As Daryl listened to the sounds of war from all angles he sighed heavily. It was impossible to be comfortable with the situation. His motivation to keep going was to consider what he was fighting for. Imagining the beautiful place the continent could one day become. He wished to see that but more then seeing he wished to help bring it to fruition.

"Are you," Bredret noticed Daryl looked a bit absent minded, he recognized the look on Daryl's face because he had seen it many times himself in the mirror, it reminded him of his beloved Celeste, "thinking about her? Zoe is safe at the palace."

"... She's becoming more lively these days." Daryl found happiness in the fact that he had seen Zoe coming out of her shell slowly over these months. She had always been a quiet girl. It felt nice to see her finally opening her heart more to the world around her.

Daryl grunted for a moment as he felt pain surge throughout his body. His wounds were still painful but he could endure. It would be dangerous for him to loose focus. Ignoring the pain he continued to fight while pushing onward. The knights under him did not recognize his condition as well as the dragon could. That paled expression on his face made Bredret nervous.

Bredret mumbled under his breath, "You talk like a dead man."

Booom! Booommm!

Explosions were scattered around the area going off. The dwarves had many sensitive materials kept within their small kingdom on the mountain. Dragon's fire was still spreading throughout the land and every time it collided with this material it would explode. Sending rubble in all directions that rained down from above.

They had finally made it into the main streets of Brolan. Since Brolan Kingdom was so small it only consisted of one main city. It did not take long for them to push from the kingdom's wall into the main streets of Brolan itself. King Herald's palace was just in front of them.

Inside the Brolan Palace,

King Herald was preparing himself for battle. The fight had reached a dangerous position for him. With his kingdom at stake he had to step up personally to protect his people.

"What is the situation?" King Herald asked a knight that was bringing him updates on the battle going on outside the palace.

The knight replied quickly, "Your Majesty, they are approaching the palace. It is estimated that they could reach here any moment."

"The dragon?" King Herald asked about Bredret. The dragon could cause a lot of damage to their kingdom if he morphed into his true form again. It was a threat to his kingdom and his people.

The knight shook his head as he replied, "The dragon is still fighting in human form for now. He is very difficult to handle... I heard word that their general was wounded and he was protecting that man now."

"Hmm," King Herald thought hard about the dragon and the man leading the battle against his kingdom, "The dragon is distracted by this man's life."

"Your majesty?" The knight was confused by the king's words. What was the king thinking?

King Herald saw his confusion and gave a feint laugh with a smile as he said, "The general falls and those werewolves will fall into a panic. I will take care of their general personally. Have the knights take care of that dragon before he has a chance to morph again."

"Yes!" The knight bowed to the king before turning to rush off. He had to deliver the king's orders quickly. In the middle of the war there was no time for delay on messages. It was a matter of life and death for the kingdom itself.

King Herald watched the knight rush off and let out a heavy sigh. It had been a long time since he had been involved in a good fight. He was not as tall as other races but Herald was still a trained warrior. When it came to protecting his kingdom he would not fall without a good fight. He would do everything he could to protect his people.

King Herald was not a cruel man. He did not serve the god Chynir as loyally as the other kingdoms that followed him did. Brolan Kingdom only did what was best in order to survive in the world. Herald was determined to protect his kind at all cost. Even if that cost was himself becoming a follower to the god Chynir.

"For the people." King Herald muttered a few words to himself as he picked up his weapon in hand. He was prepared to give everything he had. When going into battle Herald knew one must be prepared to loose one's life. Steeling his mind and heart the king burst out of the room prepared to fight.
