Chapter 326

Standing beside the fallen book the little girl seemed to shiver in fear of the beast. She was startled to see another scary beast brought in by Kaiser. It was difficult to understand what the girl was thinking. Since she was inside of Kaiser's mansion the girl most likely worked in the mansion or her parents would have.

Gathering a bit of courage inside herself, the young girl picked up her fallen book. It was not the first beast she had seen in her life. Even if she was afraid of the beast and got startled at first. She would not give in to her fear of the wolf.

The young girl seemed to be a bit underfed. Did they not take care of her properly? Vorbuk wondered as he watched her slowly take steps towards the cage. A small hand slowly outstretching in the direction of the iron bars as she got closer. Fear was in her eyes but her every action was bravely taken in caution.

Do you think I would harm a child? Vorbuk did not know how to react to the girl. He could not say anything to calm her heart and he was not someone who could harm an innocent child. It had merely gotten unlucky and found herself caught in the middle of everything between him and Kaiser.

Vorbuk was careful about his movements. Trying to not scare the child as he stretched out his neck. His muzzle gently greeting the palm of her hand. Normally he was against allowing others to touch him. However he could not bring himself to harm a young child such as her.

The young girl's hand stroked her fingertips through the wolf's fur innocently, "Good doggy~!"

That pure and innocent smile on her face was bright as it could be. Vorbuk could feel himself being struck by the child's adorableness. If the girl's ability to be cute could be fatal he would have died on the spot.

Vorbuk and his group had not even made it all the way into Drethia kingdom. They had only made it to the outskirts of the boundary. In time they still needed to cross the witches garden. If the small towns on the edge of Drethia Kingdom could be so difficult to pass it would only get harder. He knew he had to be more vigilant. Could he really consider such a young girl a possible threat?

The wolf's heart wavered as he felt her petting the side of his head. His ears pinned back instinctively at her touch. Vorbuk looked similar to a tamed dog in the hands of the young child.

What kind of mortal race is she anyways? Vorbuk wondered.

[ The young girl is of the kitsune race. ]

As the voice said the name of her race the wolf could not stop himself from observing her more carefully. The young girl had a pair of golden eyes that sparkled like glitter in the light. Her brown hair seemed to have a soft orange undertone. Ears of a canine species could be seen that must have been fox ears. Behind the girl Vorbuk noticed that she had three tails.

"If she is not a vampire what is she doing inside Kaiser's mansion?" Vorbuk asked out loud to the system. It would not matter what he said. Nobody including the little girl would be able to understand him.

[ Invalid. ]

Many vampires keep and raise their own food among their servants. They allow their servants to have their own children but when they reach adulthood they become another living source of food for them. She was most likely kept with this thought in mind. Vorbuk had understood this the most he thought about it.

Was she being raised like cattle to one day become a source of food for Kaiser? Her lifespan was much longer compared to a human. As long as Kaiser kept her alive he would be able to use her for food over and over again.

"Leah!" A cold voice called out to the girl loudly, "Get away from the cage! That is dangerous!"

A knight of Kaiser's stormed into the room. His feet stomping every step as he went up to the girl. Grabbing the young girl, Leah, by the arm he pulled her away from the iron bars of the cage. The wolf could not tell if the knight cared about the girl. At first glance it may have sounded like worry. When taking in how rough the knight was with the young girl the wolf wanted to tear his throat out.

Grr.. Grrrrr...

Vorbuk could not control himself. He began to growl deeply at the knight. The sound of his growling could not reach the knight's ears. He was more focused on the young girl who was on her knees, shaking in fear. Her trembling body could not calm down.

"I'm sorry.." Leah whimpered out an apology to the knight that towered above her. Trembling, she tried to stand back up. Folding her little hands together behind her back. Her ears and tails all slouched poorly. Tears filled her eyes but she held them back.

She did nothing wrong..! Vorbuk wanted to protest for the young girl. However he could do nothing but growl deeply at the knight from inside the cage.

The knight briefly froze at the sight of the young girl about to burst into tears before speaking, "You should not put your hands in the cage. He could take your arm off or worse kill you. Understand?"

"Yes, sir." Leah whimpered.

Sighing, the knight told her, "You should head back now."

Leah nodded and turned to look at the wolf curiously one more time. Her ears twitching nervously as she did not wish to leave. There was nothing she could do to refute against the knight's words. Nodding back at him, Leah left the room with her book tightly wrapped in her arms.

Leah cast a glance back at the room as the knight slammed the door with her outside. She was never allowed near the beasts that were brought into the mansion. It was because everyone was worried about her small size and age. They were worried for her safety.

The girl was not a fool. She knew that she was being raised for Kaiser's source of food. When she became old enough she would take the place of someone else. When someone who was used as food got too old their lives were forfeit to be drained. They were replaced with new, younger, food. Kaiser did not like to feed on elder beings because he enjoyed the blood of beings in their prime.

Turning away from the closed door she looked around her. Other servants would cast glances at her as they walked by. When the surroundings were clear she darted down the mansion's hallway. Sneaking into the mansion's library and shutting herself inside.

It was her favorite place to hide in this dark place she was forced to live. The young Leah found her safe place inside the library. Tucking herself away into a far corner in the back of the room. She could look at all kinds of books beside the wide window. Warm sunlight shined down every day that would warm her body and soul. It was her only place of peace where she could truly feel as if her world did not have to be so shrouded in darkness.
