Lunch

While Subaru was talking with Emilia and walking around the mansion exploring. Rem, Ram, and Kaji were talking about Subaru, and how he seemed suspicious to the two girls.

"Kaji, he stinks, he has the same smell as them…..I don't trust him." Rem said while looking at Kaji.

"Hmmm, he doesn't seem to be a bad guy, and Puck didn't say anything bad about him. In a way, they seem to get along quite well." Kaji said while patting Rem, who was sitting right next to him on a sofa.

"Do we tell Roswall about it?" Ram asked.

"There's no need, I'm sure he already knows of him being here, and not to mention, that in the future I will need him to do something for me." The red-haired boy said while smiling at the two of them.

"What will you need from him? He seems to be kind of useless." Ram asked.

"I have a feeling that with him around we can take out one of the sin archbishops of the witches' cult. Not to mention the clown will want to test him, in some way." He said with confidence in his voice.

"But he smells just like them. How do we know he's not one of them?" Rem asked while her hands curled up into fists.

"All we can do for now is observe him, Ram and I will be responsible for that. And taking care of Emilia will be left to you and Meili, is that alright?" Kaji asked the girls.

"That's a good idea, I highly doubt Rem would be able to hold herself back from killing the boy." Ram agreed with the dissension.

After their talk was over, the three of them split up the work they needed to do, and started finishing up with preparations for lunch. Soon Emilia and Subaru arrived in the dining room, and someone else appeared, it was Beatrice. Who came here so she could spend time with Puck who was also a spirit, Kaji didn't really understand how the two of them got along so well, but it didn't really matter.

But what happened next was something no one expected. The moment Roswaal showed up, Subaru thought of him as a clown who was here to entertain them all before a meal. Unsurprisingly he was wrong, and the atmosphere was a bit awkward for a moment.

Then Subaru, Emilia, Beatrice, and Roswaal sat down in their respective seats, while Kaji, Ram, and Rem brought out the dishes prepared for lunch. After they were done bringing the dishes out, and placing them in front of the seated people, Kaji stood one step behind Roswaal to his right. Rem was standing behind Beatrice and Ram was standing behind Emilia.

Subaru didn't seem to pay them much attention as he looked at the different dishes laid out in front of him. There was a bowl of some sort of soup, a plate with some salad, and a stake. The boy didn't hesitate to eat as he took a spoon full, and ate it.

"This is way better than normal food!" Subaru exclaimed.

"Despite her appearance, Rem's cooking is quite impressive." Roswaal responded, but before Subaru could ask anything Else they heard Kaji speak.

"Despite her appearance? What do you mean by that, Roswaal L. Mathers?" Kaji said in a cold voice, making Subaru shiver.

"Kaji-kuuun, you pay too much attention to words, I didn't mean anything bad by it you know…..Oh, you're always so mean to everyone but the twins, if only you were nicer to me." The clown said while eating his food.

After a bit of back and forth, Roswaal started talking with Subaru probing him with words, while Subaru seemed to not know anything of this kingdom's situation. While the lord of the mansion explained to Subaru about the missing king, and that they were in a process of selecting a new king.

Then Emilia had to explain to him about her being a royal candidate to become the next king. It took some time for the boy to start understanding what was happening, but he realized one important thing. It was that he looked incredibly suspicious to others, and he just showed up out of nowhere, not to mention, he had contact with a royal candidate when no one even knows of him, or where he's from.

But after a bit more explaining what would have happened if the insignia was lost by Emilia, he realized what a great job he did, raising his expectations for a reward. After the exchange of words Roswaal, and Emilia offered him a reward, as they told him to ask anything he wishes for.

"In that case, I have but one request..." Subaru said while standing up, and smiling, making everyone look at him, except Beatrice who was feeding Puck, some of the soup from her spoon.
