What Makes A Hero

Outside of USJ a crowd of reporters could be seen crowding around a row of ambulances as policemen tried to maintain basic order. It didnt take long for people to figure out what happened after watching Almight rush to the scene.

Class 1A were all ashamed of themselves as they sat in the ambulances being treated. Jiro had one of the worst injuries as even blocking her ears her earjacks caught feedback from my wail and made her ears bleed. Its estimated to take about a week before she can hear clearly again.

Aizawa and Danny were immediately rushed to the hospital as 13 and Midnight debriefed the police and Nezu on what occured. Nezu was furious. From what he gathered the students faced a creature designed exactly to face Almight.

If it wasnt for the fact that Midnight asked to come instead then that would've meant someone had a chance to make his injuries even worse. The shock absorption, with super strength, timed with Almights injury and he was supposed to be on duty today means their information was a little too accurate for Nezu's taste.

U.A. had a mole and he was damned sure to look into it.

As for the students they huddled together looking towards themselves. What they experienced today was much more than anyone prepared them for.

Bakugou sat there in contemplation before he exploded with anger and directly smashed into the side of the ambulance startling his classmates and the reporters.

"DAMMIT, WHO TOLD THAT EXTRA TO GET IN MY WAY. I DONT NEED ANYONE'S PROTECTION!"

Watching Katsuki get his fuse lit the awkward situation eased up a bit before Toru spoke up, "....do you think he'll come back?"

Her words sent a heavy mood to the classmates as they remembered the doctors words.

****5 minutes after Almight arrived*****

The Paramedics burst through the door followed by Nezu and and some other teachers. Even a few Kilometers away they still heard my full powered wail and rushed right over after figuring out they couldnt access the camera system at USJ.

The paramedics immediately rushed and split into two teams to look at Aizawa who's battered and beaten and the fallen Fenton who arm was blasted to chunks and vocal chords shredded. The medics hesitate to move me at first but threw the hesitation away as they checked my condition.

The rushed the two of us back into some ambulances that had arrived and immediately took off towards the hospital.

Nezu looked calm but the fury behind his eyes couldn't be ignored.

"Excuse me Nezu-san" a medic interrupted "Regarding injures the students bar Fenton and Jirou all seem to be in pretty decent shape. Midnight will take a few days to recover the lost stamina and 13 is fine. Eraserhead had various degrees of injury but he is expected to make a full recovery in a week or two. However..."

"However what?" a concerned Nemuri with a eager Momo right on her tails.

The medic looks at Nezu who just sighed and nodded for him to continue.

"However...Fenton in addition to his missing arm, his vocal chords are shredded, his heels has fractures throughout them and his lungs are barely operating."

Nemuri feels a pain in her chest as she thinks about her authorization for him to participate while Momo was already in tears from missing arm.

"Nezu, even if we save his life and i do mean if. Its a miracle he's alive, but either way his hero days are over."

Those words were very special in this time and setting. The other paramedics felt regret for this bright talent, his classmates felt like a burden, Nemuri broke into silent tears thinking how she ruined her best friend's legacy. If it was before he had turned she wouldn't care how many wounds he got.

But being Maddie's best friend she understood, once the transformation ended whatever he didnt have wouldnt come back. Even if he made a new arm next time his human body would be stuck broken. No amount of ecto energy would help him now, and he physically couldn't stay ghostly forever.

"Thank you Doctor." Nezu spoke

"Can you contact his guardians, we'll need to contact them about their options."

"Ah, I'm his guardian, i don't care what it takes, please save his life." Nemuri spoke seriously before bending into a deep bow.

****Back to the present*****

1A was remembering how their classmate sacrificed his life for them.

"So what."

The whole class looked towards Todoroki as he stood up.

"Are you going to pity him?" Todoroki snapped on the crestfallen kids. "He made his choice the moment he took that step forward. The minute we chose to step back we became burdens. He made his choice we made ours."

"I don't think that's making anyone feel any better Todoroki-san." Asui said

"Its not supposed to" Momo spoke. Everyone was shocked hearing her finally speak after everything that happened. But the coldness of her voice..."We call ourselves future heroes. Everyone one of us is aiming for the top and we did what? Step back when the danger was there? Bakugou was the most helpful and he created a mess. We call ourselves heroes, 1A? That's a joke. The only hero in our class just sacrificed his career, his future, his limbs and life for us and here we are pitying him? Feeling sorry for ourselves?"

"But what else are we supposed to do then? Its not like anyone is happy just sitting on the sidelines either?" Kirishima spoke up.

"YOU FIGHT DAMMIT" Bakugou exploded.

"Bakugou is right" Todoroki spoke up "Almight, Endeavour, Hawks, Best Jeanist. How much longer are we gonna keep looking up at them? Symbols of peace? Heroes? None of it matters if we the next generation of Hope fall back."

The class was silent for a second before Mina spoke forward "...his back."

"What was that Mina?" Iida asked

"His back was firm and strong the entire time. Never once did it slacken, not when he protected us, not when he lost his arm, not while he shredded his vocal chords. He never once retreated. And he didnt fall before the villain did."

They pondered on her words before Midoriya stood up catching everyones eyes.

He stood there and looked at his hands as his eyes firmed. "Next time I won't freeze. Next time i won't want my companion fight by himself. Next time instead of watching his back ill stand beside him. Next time ill show him..them all"

Midoriya looked up at his classmates all burning with different emotions "Ill show them that im a Hero too."

"Youre right Midoriya," Todoroki spoke "Next time we won't fight from behind. A hero who steps back in the face of danger is no hero."

Momo spoke up next and said "Toru you asked if he'll come back? I thoroughly believe he will. So what if he's missing and arm. As his Vice president ill be his arm. A hero like him wont go down easily."

Iida spoke up next "So what if he has fractures in his heels, for a man like him he'll be walking in no time and until then, ill be his legs."

"No matter what happens from now on lets all make a promise" Midoriya spoke "From here on out we move forward with courage."

"With passion" Mina agreed

"With strength" Kirishima grinned

"Never falling back" Asui croaked

"In dazzling brilliance" Aoyama shined

"As heroes."
