Fight between colleagues

After the meeting, Ava came back to her office to get some paperwork done. Suddenly Susan came running and ask Ava anxiously, "Director Green, what happened between you and Dr. Sylvia? She was very angry just now and was shouting out your name."

"It's no big deal. At the meeting today, the dean asked me to recommend a candidate to go to Switzerland. I chose Dr. Byrne, so she got angry over this." Ava said with a smile on her face.

Ava always noticed Dr. Sylvia's cold attitude towards her but she never cared about it before. However, since the incident with Amy, Ava decided not to let her go the next time she crossed her path.

"What is she, a child? What kind of attitude is that? If a grown woman like her cannot even control her temper at work then how would she take care of her patients?" Susan shook her head helplessly and sighed.

Susan was already here when Dr. Sylvia joined the hospital, so she has known her all these years. Susan knew because of Sylvia's cold personality no one really liked her at the hospital. All of them were used to her arrogant attitude but this was the first time she had ever seen lose her temper like this.

"Well she is arrogant like that, I don't even know what I ever did to her for her to treat me like that. In fact when I recommended Dr. Byrne today I was not holding any grudges against her, I was just thinking about the hospital. Dr. Sylvia had three failed operations last month. How do I recommend her in such a condition to this important project? Besides with that arrogant attitude, she will only make trouble if she was sent to Switzerland." Ava said annoyed.

"Yes, Director Green I think you did the right thing here. Compared to Dr. Sylvia, Dr. Byrne is definitely a sincere doctor and he almost never had any failed operation. Besides as a person he is also very kind and could get along with everyone." Susan said with a smile.

"Yes, Dr. Byrne is a piece of gold. Sooner or later, he will shine." Ava admired him and thought, maybe someday Dr. Byrne will be a Director too, he certainly has that potential.

Ava and Susan were chatting quietly. They saw Sylvia was coming their way with a black face so Ava said to Susan, "Sister Susan, hurry up and get back to work."

Susan also didn't want to cause any trouble by chatting during the working hour so she quietly left.

Sylvia passed Ava like she didn't exist, she didn't even bother to greet her. When Director Brown was the director, Sylvia would always follow him around and flatter him every chance she got.

Ava took a deep breath and decided to talk to her about the failed operations, the family members of those patients still cause trouble at the hospital every now and then, so as a Director it was her responsibility to talk to the doctor and calm the matter down.

"Dr. Sylvia, I have something important to talk to you about," Ava said, holding out her hand to stop Sylvia.

Sylvia stood there and looked at Ava coldly as if she was very annoyed just to get stopped by Ava.

Looking at her arrogant face Ava couldn't stop herself from saying, "Dr. Sylvia, I used to respect you for your hard work. But I don't understand what I ever did to you for you to treat me so coldly. We are all colleagues, even if for some reason you don't like me, you could at least make it not so obvious at the workplace, you know."

Sylvia looked at Ava, still expressionless, "Director Green, it's working time now. If you stopped me to talk about this nonsense, then I advise you not to waste my time. I have no prejudice against you."

Ava smiled faintly but decided not to talk about it any further so she straightly got to the point and said, "Of course, this was not the reason why I stopped you. This morning, three family members of the patients you operated on last month came to my office to file a complaint against you. This matter is getting out of hand so how do you plan to solve it?"

Sylvia looked at Ava fiercely as if she wanted to kill her right then and there. She said in an arrogant voice, "How does the director want to solve the problem? If you want to deduct my salary then just do it."

"Dr. Sylvia that's not a kind of problem that could be solved by deducting your salary. I hope you can understand that some things are more important than money. You have to apologize to the families of the three patients. The reputation of the hospital is very important." Ava said with a serious face.

"What? You want me to apologize? Why would I do that? Is it my fault that the operation failed?" Sylvia was so angry that she was trembling.

"Well, you are right, it was not your fault that the operations failed, but rather than being compassionate and showing sympathy to the family members of the patient's, scolding them arrogantly was indeed your fault. Did you think of the consequences when you quarreled with the patient's family members? Have you forgotten the professional ethics of doctors?" Ava said word by word, clearly and powerfully, she was also getting angry now.

Sylvia was shocked by Ava's sudden powerful tone. She thought Ava was a little white rabbit who could be bullied easily, she never thought this woman had such a fierce side.

"What do you mean? Are you saying that I don't have any professional ethics?" Sylvia said breathing heavily, she was ever more angrier because she was choked by Ava's words just now.

Ava sneered and said, "It looks like you have very little self-knowledge."

"Dr. Green, how dare you? I have been working in this hospital for five years, no one ever dared to say such a thing to me before." Sylvia said furiously, her face turned into a mixture of red and green. She couldn't stop but shouting at Ava.

"Dr. Sylvia, I'd like to ask you to be polite, please. This is a hospital, not your home. There are so many colleagues watching you right now. Yes, you have been in the hospital for a long time, but that didn't give you the right to treat your colleagues and patients arrogantly." Ava said calmly.

Sylvia's anger has crossed its limit, she couldn't speak for a while. "I don't understand, how did a little girl like you become the director. You practiced for a few months, didn't even have enough experience, how could you be qualified to become a head of the department. You must have played some dirty tricks or used your charm to get this job." Sylvia finally lets out what has been bothering her since Ava became the director. She was sure either Ava had slept with any of the hierarchy or played some other dirty tricks to become the director.

Looking at Ava and Sylvia arguing like that, the colleagues in the office were all dumbfounded.

"What did you say?" Suddenly, there was a deep male voice at the door, which was pleasant but had a trace of anger in it.

Almost everyone present there turned around at once to see who that deep voice belonged to.
