Chapter 12: Training Montage

A/N: Sorry for the delay, I was on vacation and had no access to my computer

~Nezu's Office - Toshinori Yagi(All Might)~

"What do you think? Sir?" Yagi nervously scratched the back of his head as he watched the furry principal go over the footage of the exam grounds C again.

The footage of that fight was stuck in his head for the last few days ever since he saw it live. Although the other teachers did not pay enough attention to notice the discrepancies in the live viewing he did.

He saw that boy, Hakari use multiple quirks, or at least 2. Having faced innumerable villains he had plenty of experience with multitudes as well as a good understanding as to how quirks usually manifest and are used.

And to his dread, his usage of his quirk was not something one quirk should be capable of. No, it instead resembled how people who are given multiple quirks by him use their quirks.

But Yagi knew he had buried All for One with his very own hands. He shouldn't have been able to survive those wounds.

So he could only hope that his hypothesis about young Hakari was incorrect. So he brought the matter up to the principal of UA, Nezu the smartest mammal alive.

After sitting in silence after watching the videos Nezu finally gave his verdict.

"Well, this seems rather interesting, doesn't it? From what I have seen young Hakari has displayed at least 3 different abilities in the exam, maybe even 5. Which should be impossible, it is possible to have a quirk that makes it seem like you have multiple quirks but it doesn't look like that in this case."

Yagi leaned forward, putting all of his attention on Nezu's words as the rat took a sip from his tea.

"Is that really so sir? I thought that may be the case but I wasn't sure, also at least 3? Could you explain please?" Nezu raised up one closed paw before unfurling one finger.

"The first quirk he showed was his abnormal speed and acceleration. The second one was the one he showed to disable all of those robots, mostly likely an EMP-related one. Then the one he used that granted him both strength and speed.

The fourth one could be the defensive one he used when he landed but that can be chalked up to a different aspect of the third power since both of their tells are very similar. The fifth possible one is some kind of dangersense or precognition with how well he was able to dodge the mock villains despite never looking in their direction. But that can also be chalked up to combat sense and awareness so it's only a possible one."

Yagi nodded, he hadn't even thought about the dodging of the faux villains. But he was still in the dark about how Nezu was so confident in something like his first speed and the speed ability he used.

"But sir, how do you know they are different abilities instead of one ability like something such as New Order?" Nezu simply chuckled at his words, no doubt finding amusement in his own intelligence.

"It's simple, it's all in the tells, his abilities acted differently. The first speed ability was a gradual increase in speed with no visual tell. While the offensive power he used showed him glow while he used it, and unlike the first he accelerated instantly instead of a gradual buildup."

Yagi nodded, he hadn't even considered the difference between the two speeds or the fact that the visual cues of the strength and defence lined up so much.

"I understand sir, so what do you think this means?" What Yagi intended to say was clear as day 'Is he related to him?'.

Nezu simply chuckled.

"Well, there are multiple possibilities, maybe he was a plan of that man that never came to fruition and received his abilities before All for One passed away. It could be the effect of a different quirk or maybe he got it through some other way. There is no way to know at the moment, I will conduct my own research later." Nezu concluded, smart he may be but even he had to admit he could not come to a solid conclusion with little to evidence.

Hearing his words Yagi asked.

"So, sir, what will we do about him?" Nezu simply leaned back with a relaxed expression in contrast to Yagi who looked as stiff as a corpse.

"Well, we can just ask him when he comes here can't we? He is still one of our future students, after all, we can decide after we have met face to face, we wouldn't want to assume the wrong thing about the young man after all!" Nezu said with finality as Yagi heaved a sigh of relief, it was true, there was no need to worry so much, that man was dead, but even after so much time it still put him on edge whenever he saw anything related to him.

Like the principal had said they would just have to wait and see.

~Kotaro Hakari~

Life seldom goes the way you want.

Turns out, there is a reason why Gene Refinement is ranked Epic instead of Legendary or Mythical even.

First of all, when I used it on Toga again I was met by the fact that I could not use it on the same person within at least 10 days, give or take depending on what I changed.

If I do so there is a giant risk of breaking their genetic sequence instead of improving it. Which quickly shot down the idea of turning a decent quirk into a literal god in less than a year.

Another problem was the hella energy drain, it left me really drained afterwards too. But that can be overlooked even though it is inconvenient. But still, I could make hella money off of this.

...Or not.

The moment All For One finds out gene refinement I am fucked beyond all measure. Because he will definitely make a priority target on the off chance that my quirk could fix his body and even remove the flaws of his quirk, make his Nomu stronger and everything in between.

...The more I think about what could happen to me if my quirk leaks the more I feel like this was one of the most dangerous quirks I could have rolled.

Why couldn't I have rolled something like a devil fruit ability or something? With how valuable my ability is I really have to get more and more abilities to protect myself.

Anyway, since there was some time until school actually started I found myself with some time to practice my abilities and get a good handle on my skillset.

After all, I started with a disadvantage. Everyone else in the school were raised with their abilities, their abilities are engraved to their very being and they have had basically unlimited practice with them. And I needed to cover that decade of experience in less than a month for multiple abilities.

As the days until the UA were coming closer, I figured out a few more tricks.

First of all, my combo of Exoskeleton and Defensive Form. Which I now call the wall.

Technically, since the exoskeleton is a part of me it also gets boosted by Defensive Form boosting its defence even more. With both active I essentially become an immovable wall but also lose speed in exchange.

I am not exaggerating when I say the truck that killed me in my last life probably can't even knock me off my feet in the wall mode it was so tough.

Honestly, exoskeleton in general was pretty busted. After I use it it stays there until I manually choose to dispel it after which it falls apart.

The armour itself? Tough as bricks. Toga can't get through it with her normal knives, she can dig in a few centimetres with a strong stab but not enough to get through.

By my estimation it was about as strong as steel while being brittle but more flexible as well as way lighter, the entire armour did not weigh more than 20kg which did not mean a lot due to the standards of this world's fitness.

Also, I found out what happens when I use gene refinement on myself.

And well, it wasn't exactly what I expected.

Unlike others where I upgraded their abilities basically free of cost, for me there was no free lunch, even from my own ability apparently.

[Refinement: Exoskeleton]

Requirement: Break the Exoskeleton 10x(6/10)

[Refinement: Blink]

Requirement: Travel 5km with blink (2/5)

Apparently, I need to finish a whole side quest before I can upgrade my own abilities. And more annoyingly I can only try to improve 2 at a time.

Now, can you see the problem with the two I picked without knowing of that restriction?

Yeah, remember when I said the exoskeleton was tough? Well, the flesh underneath sure as hell isn't.

So how did I break it 6 times already?

Simple.

I jumped off of buildings. I carefully calculated the height where it would break the armor and I could only get off with minor internal damage. Unfortunately, I couldn't do that often, but I am sure the teachers at UA would help me break out of my shell to complete my refinement.

And for Blink, 5km may seem easy peasy until you remember that, Blink's max range is, in fact, a maximum of 10 meters. That means 500 blinks. When I can't even use my quirk in public due to stupid laws and overusing my quirk gives me vertigo which is not fun. I needed an open space to practice it properly.

So, they were not really feasible until I reached UA. But when I got to it would be perfect for practice. Plenty of Pro Heroes to help me and I am pretty sure I can get some more favourable treatment and help when I show Nezu that I may or not be the second coming of quirk Jesus.

In the meantime, I focused on increasing my energy reserves with Phase Shift and actually putting some work in with my teaching mastery. I was tutoring Toga on both her weak subjects and... other things.

First, I wanted to see the extent of teaching mastery and it was great, in less than a week I was able to get Toga to basic massage mastery and actually help her learn to control her bloodlust a little since unlike normal teaching, teaching mastery was a little busted.

Why massage mastery? Because kinkier sex is great, plus getting a massage after a workout feels great.

Sure, she did not have complete control over her impulses but she was more than good enough to attend school. After all, if she was great enough cannon to impersonate a student well enough for nearly an entire day, being able to sit through class without tasting blood should be easy enough for her.

And well, time passed fast enough.

It was time for school now.

UA here I come.

A/N: This was mostly a training montage chapter to show how Hakari is handling his new set of powers. And while Gene Refinement is certainly busted it is not game-breaking busted, it would have been if he got the legendary variant or above however.

Regardless, it opens many doors, and not all of them are good. Because you know for sure he will be target number one if All for One catches even a single whiff of Hakari's scent.

Also, I wonder how the curse of Remix could have changed UA?

Anyways, I would love to hear your thoughts on the chapter and how the first day at UA is going to go. If you liked the chapter then make sure to comment, comments help motivate me to write more and faster.
