Chapter 265: Meet

The evening at Kara's apartment.

"Happy birthday!!"

The living room was simply set up like a birthday party, with streamers, flowers, and a display that said "Happy Birthday" hanging on the wall.

Kara, who was wearing a birthday crown, blew out the candles on the cake with a smile.

Even though only two people were there to celebrate her birthday, she was still very happy.

Beside her was Alex, a short-haired and talented beauty who was her sister.

Although they weren't blood-related, it did not affect how close they were.

"You've grown another year older, Kara."

Alex removed the candles from the cake and cut a slice while saying,

"Congratulations! You are getting closer to being an adult."

She placed a large piece of cream cake on a plate and handed it to Kara, who took it with a displeased pout.

"Come on, Alex, I've been an adult for a long time."

"But in my eyes, you're still a little girl."

Alex looked at Kara with love, and there was a flash of helplessness in her eyes.

There was a powerful energy inside her sister, who appeared to be frail and weak at first glance.

Alex was always worried about this because if Kara accidentally exposed her power, it could attract a lot of dangerous people.

She would remind Kara of this every time they saw each other.

"The same old advice, Kara. Think things through before making any decisions."

Kara could not help but roll her eyes as she ate the cream cake at the end of a long, hard day.

She grabbed a tissue to wipe off the cream from the corners of her mouth and replied,

"Alex, it's been a long time since I used my powers. I won't expose my identity."

"And even if I do, I will not be in trouble. I am strong."

Kara flexed her small, weak arm to show how strong she was, even though it looked kind of funny.

"Alright, that's exactly what I'm worried about."

Alex sighed helplessly and put a nicely wrapped gift box from her bag in front of Kara.

When she saw it, Kara grumbled unhappily,

"I already told you, I don't want any gifts."

While she said she didn't want it, she moved very quickly. Before she finished speaking, she had already taken the present out of its wrapper.

Inside the box was a necklace.

Kara's smile changed immediately when she saw the necklace.

Noticing Kara's reaction, Alex sighed and said,

"I did my best. I contacted a few friends, but... they could only make it look similar on the outside."

"I'm sorry, Kara."

Kara seemed to have not heard Alex's words. She simply pursed her lips and stared blankly at the necklace for a while.

After a long pause, she closed the box, shook her head, and forced a smile,

"No need to apologize, Alex. Thank you. I... don't care anymore."

Seeing Kara's gloomy gaze, Alex remained silent.

That necklace was the only memory their mother had left for her. How could Kara not care about it?

Two months ago, Kara called her in a panic, saying that her necklace had disappeared.

It was there before she went to sleep, but it was gone when she woke up.

Alex knew the importance of that necklace to her and rushed over immediately.

But strangely, even though the sisters looked everywhere in the apartment and Kara scanned the whole building with her X-ray vision, they could not find the necklace.

It was kind of scary.

A necklace couldn't just vanish into thin air, right?

But it did.

Even now, Alex can remember how upset Kara was back then. After all, it was the only thing their mother had left for her.

Alex knew Kara still cared, even though she had not talked about it in over two months, and pretended not to care.

So, she had someone make a necklace that was almost the same as the original one, based on what she remembered, so that Kara would have something to keep.

But it looked like her plan had backfired.

Due to Kara's sadness, the birthday celebration didn't last long. After finishing the cake, Alex left because she had to work the next day.

After cleaning up the slightly messy living room, Kara washed up and laid down on her bed.

Kara pulled out the necklace Alex had given her and looked at it while she was under the covers.

Even though it was not the one her mom had given her, Alex's gift was still from the heart.

She decided that from now on, she would wear it and pretend that it had never been lost.

Kara slowly fell asleep as she did these things to make herself feel better.

The next morning, a piercing alarm clock rang out.

The lump under the blanket moved a little, and then a fair, plump arm came slowly out from under the covers, trying to find the source of the noise and gently patting...

Bang.

The alarm clock was quickly broken into pieces. The noise completely startled the girl under the blanket.

Kara stuck her head out from under the covers and looked at the messy bedside table with sleepy eyes. She sighed deeply.

"Have I been spending too much time in the sun lately?"

Muttering to herself, Kara carefully picked up her phone and glanced at the time.

"Oh! Shit!"

A scream echoed throughout the room, then there was a clattering sound. In no time, KKara quickly left the house after cleaning up.

She was almost late.

Kara woke up late this morning, which does not happen very often. Maybe it was because she stayed up late the night before for her birthday party.

Fortunately, she shouldn't be late as long as nothing unexpected happens on the way.

After all, Kara's apartment wasn't far from CatCo International, just four or five bus stops away.

First, she stopped by the café near the bus stop and bought a sandwich and a cup of instant coffee.

Just as the bus arrived, Kara rushed on board.

Fortunately, there weren't many people on the bus, so she didn't have to stand the whole time.

The four or five stops passed quickly, and next, she had to walk across the pedestrian bridge and take a few steps to reach the CatCo International Building.

As she saw the company building in the distance and realized there was still some time left, Kara couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.

She wasn't late.
