Early in the morning, Jack woke up in his hotel room.
"Ah!"
Sitting up against the headboard, he stared blankly at the slowly drawn curtains. The first rays of sunlight of the morning came in and lit up his face.
This was probably the most peaceful sleep Jack had in a while.
There was something magical about this city that made him let down his guard and defenses completely.
The way he slept last night could even be called sleeping like a log.
To be honest, it was surprisingly relaxing.
After sitting for a while and waiting for the sun to rise higher and the city to come to life, Jack slowly got up.
A hot shower in the morning was a must.
He washed up in the bathroom for more than half an hour. By the time he left the hotel, an hour had passed.
Observing the busy pedestrians on the street, Jack decided to revisit CatCo International Media from last night.
He believed there might be some clues there.
He had a feeling, but he did not know why.
Luckily, he had memorized the way yesterday, so he didn't waste any time searching for directions.
Like any normal person, he waited on the street for a cab, got in, and made his way through the morning rush hour traffic.
He finally arrived at CatCO International Media, where he had been the previous night.
After getting out of the taxi, Jack glanced at the striking Kate Media Building not far away and walked slowly towards it.
At the same time, his eyes swept the crowd like a scanner, looking for something among all the people walking by.
Since he had seen that necklace in the projection of this universe, he had a feeling that he might find a clue here.
Jack stood by the side of the road, never taking his eyes off the people passing by.
He was so focused that he ignored the noise behind him.
Bang!
"Ouch!"
He felt like something had hit him from behind, and then he heard something fall to the ground and a woman yelp.
Finally, he felt the warmth from behind, and the aroma of coffee beans made him realize that the lady who walked without looking was probably going to ruin his clothes.
Jack turned around and faced a pair of shocked eyes.
Time seemed to freeze at that moment.
Jack's mind went blank, and he even forgot where he was and what he was doing. He glanced straight at the clumsy girl in front of him, and a storm of feelings erupted in his heart.
He recognized her.
In his previous life, he had watched the TV series Supergirl.
Although he had not seen much of it and had not even finished the first season, the image of Kara Danvers, the show's main character, stuck with him.
This girl always had a smile that was full of hope and energy. It seemed her smile could take away all of people's problems.
Jack now knew where the familiar feeling came from, and he partly blamed himself for not remembering it sooner because it had been a long time since he had watched the show.
However, the necklace Kara was wearing around her neck was primarily to blame for his trance-like state.
It looked similar to the one he had seen in his dream. His intuition told him that he might find clues about the owner of that necklace in her.
Kara felt a sense of surprise.
What was this feeling?
Kara didn't know. As soon as her eyes met Jack's, she felt as if her heart was enveloped in a ball of fire.
She lost her attention for a moment because of the burning, and a warm feeling slowly spread from her heart to the rest of her body.
Even her brain started to feel a bit foggy, and the cause of all this was the man standing in front of her.
Honk!
The sound of a car horn broke the strange mood and brought the two people back to reality. They regained their senses and did the same thing at the same time.
They squatted down to pick up the scattered documents.
While Jack picked up the papers from the ground, he organized his thoughts on how to ask about the necklace.
Little did he know, Kara had the exact same thought.
After a short while, Kara picked up everything, and both of them stood up.
"I'm sorry! It's my fault!"
Jack was the first to apologize.
"I... got lost in my thoughts and didn't notice this was a pedestrian walkway. I apologize to you."
"No, no, please don't say that."
Jack handed Kara a folder, and she took it nervously shaking her hands.
"Actually, it's my fault. I wasn't paying attention to the road because I was in a hurry for work... so I was walking too fast."
After hesitating for a moment, Kara seriously asked, "Are you... okay? I mean, do you feel any pain in your body?"
"Pain?"
Jack felt stunned for a moment, but he quickly figured out why she was asking.
Although Kara looked sweet and fragile, she was a Kryptonian who could crush Thanos' skull with her bare hands.
Given the force Jack just felt, a regular Earthling who bumped into her would probably be half-dead.
There was a good chance that would happen.
"I'm fine, perfectly healthy."
Jack replied, twisting his neck with a hint of distress.
"Just didn't sleep well last night, got a bit of a stiff neck. The hotel pillows were a bit too soft for me."
"Hehe,"
Kara let out a light laugh, but quickly stopped, her face hesitant under Jack's teasing gaze.
"Um, you should be able to feel it, right?"
At this point, there was no need to hide anything. The collision just now made both of them aware that they were not ordinary people.
Kara felt that Jack was a good person, so she intended to be open and honest.
However, Jack stopped her in time, raised his hand, looked around, and muttered,
"There are too many people here. If you want to talk, we can find a quieter place."
He took out a piece of paper, wrote down a number, and handed it to her.
"This is the phone number of my hotel room. I'll be waiting anytime."
After speaking, Jack was about to leave, passing by Kara.
With the phone number in her hand, before she could say anything, Jack was about to leave.
At that moment, Kara seemed to notice something and quickly called out,
"Wait!"
Hearing the call, Jack turned around, puzzled, and looked at Kara, who walked over without saying a word and started taking off his coat.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, Miss Danvers. We're in public, it's best for you to control yourself a bit."
Taken aback, Jack took a step back and stopped Kara's bold movement.
"Oh! I'm so sorry!"
Kara also blurted out when she realized how easy it was to misunderstand what she was doing.
She quickly explained, "Please don't misunderstand; I just wanted to clean your coat. It's covered in coffee, which I spilled on it. I want to make it up to you."
As Kara spoke, Jack thought about what had happened.
He was going to refuse at first because his back was still wet, but when he saw the look of determination on her face, he changed his mind and took off his coat.
Kara gladly took the coat and held it and the papers in her hands while she looked at Jack deeply and said,
"See you tomorrow,"
Then she turned and ran towards the CatCo International Building.
Having delayed for a while, she was really going to be late.
She was really going to be late because she had been late for a while.
