Chapter 34: Unexpected Liberty

After a few months, Ramiel is now looking in front of his battleship with a wide smile on his face. "Ramiel-nii… What the hell is that? Isn't that thing like a kilometer long?" Alexandra looked at the battleship incredulously.

"Why yes, my dear sister. It is, and look at all the guns we could fit in her!" Ramiel was offended that Alexandra thought it was ridiculous. She won't think of it as that when she sees how the thing can sink an island with overwhelming firepower.

They were having pretty good progression on creating it and Ramiel estimated that it would take at least 2 years more to complete the behemoth of a battleship that will sail the skies. "Enough chitchat we need to get things done."

Ramiel and Alexandra were picking up the slack as the engineers and mechanics were all focusing on the battleship that was being made. The shock troopers were all turned into workers and the gigantipedes were made to haul the parts for the ship. The valuable metals were as light as titanium, but the huge parts were still going to be heavy as hell.

"Well, it's not bad to have more presence in this war, there have been less casualties on Wutai's side as well. So I guess this is a win win scenario? Besides, I get to do something other than just watch these robots try to kill them all." Alex shrugged and Ramiel nodded in satisfaction.

"That's right… That was totally my plan!" Ramiel paused for a bit and Alexandra deadpanned at him. "That was totally not your plan, was it? Hah, let's just call it a happy coincidence." Alexandra sighed heavily and prepared for another scheduled battle against the troops of Wutai.

Back at Midgar, Shinra has been dealing with a lot of problems lately. Namely, one Vincent Valentine, he was sabotaging a lot of Shinra's operations, also managing to heavily damage a weapon cache of Shinra.

He was hailed as one of the most efficient mercenaries that is tied to Avalanche, with a 100% mission completion rate. And it was only natural, Shinra is Vincent's mortal enemy after all. Experimenting on his lover and children, taking them away, turning the twins into child soldiers that fight in wars. He would be a saint if he forgives Shinra for their slight against him and his family.

"Yo, Vincent. We've got a pretty nice mission for you, I think you'll like it very much. You dislike Shinra very much, right? The only missions you do is related to them after all." Vincent's handler gave him a spiel.

Vincent raised a brow at his words and was quite interested, he was quite dissatisfied with the scale of his missions. With the biggest one yet was the one where he destroyed a major weapon cache of Shinra.

"So, I believe that this would be quite the big mission?" Vincent's eyes lit up and wanted to deal a heavy blow on Shinra. "Yes, we're planning on destroying one of the Mako reactors. We will act as a distraction and you will destroy it from within, pretty easy right?" The handler chuckled.

"What do you mean easy… But consider it done, send me the coordinates and the time." Vincent stood up and wanted to prepare for his mission, leaving the vicinity immediately like a ghost. "Hah, that guy is so anti-social. Maybe Shinra did something to him? You can feel the hostility he has for the company."

After a day, all preparations were ready and Vincent was carrying a nice little present for the Mako reactor they will be making go boom. The mission satisfied Vincent, it was the biggest operation of Avalanche.

They were targeting Mako reactors one through three. As they were the nearest each other, Avalanche didn't quite have the resources to bring down all the 8 reactors and make Shinra fall to their knees. It will also cause a systemic collapse of the upper plate. And the citizens there were not exactly at fault.

The whole ground level where the slums were located will also lose electricity. They weren't as reliant on it as the upper plate, but Avalanche was of course biased against the upper plate.

At the northern part of the upper plate, chaos was starting immediately as Avalanche began bombing Shinra outposts. "It is time." Vincent, that was perched on top of a tall building jumped as his cape fluttered in the night sky. His first target is reactor 2, which was the left most side Mako reactor and make his way east to reactor 1 and 3.

He arrived at reactor 2 and was quite suspicious of what was happening. The Mako reactor wasn't guarded heavily, the place could be described as deserted for such a valuable place of operations.

"What's happening here? Did they grow complacent?" Vincent squinted his eyes and was wary for traps. So he decided to just have an easier time and snuck inside the reactor. Being enhanced and all, with his particular set of skills. It was easy as stealing candy from a baby.

"Weird, this place should be crawling with robots that will defend it." Vincent was still suspicious that there is a trap there, but he didn't quite know that the Wutai war is just that resource intensive.

Majority of the robots that protect the reactors were relegated to the war effort. And even if the soldiers of Shinra were aplenty, they can still be spread too thin. It was just the perfect set of circumstances that caught Shinra off guard. Vincent was also too good at his job, and his ridiculous amounts of missions in the past made them even weaker.

Under the main building of Shinra, sector 0. Where Aerith and Ifalna were being kept. Ifalna and the young Aerith immediately felt a disturbance. Lives were returning to the lifestream around them. And that was a sign that something big is happening.

"Honey! Quickly, pack your things and we'll leave here to meet Ramiel and Alexandra, okay?" Ifalna saw a chance and immediately grabbed onto it. As she thought that this was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

"Okay, mom!" Aerith who was still quite naïve thought that they were just finally done with their vacation there. But she followed nonetheless. Ifalna prepared for their escape, praying that her strength and powers will be enough.
