“No, we can’t let her parents know how irresponsible we are,” Emile replied. “Even though it’s you who has disappointed their daughter.”
“Oh, don’t be so dramatic,” Elliot responded. “I am likely to fall into trouble at home myself for staying away from home for such a long time. Let’s be practical and think about what we can do now. Why don’t you try and phone her, even if her mother answers the phone? Then at least we will know whether she is at home or not?”
“And if her parents want to know whether we have seen her?” Emile asked.
“Then we simply tell them that we are looking for her to do a school science project together,” Elliot replied promptly.
“You mean we should simply lie to them?” Emile asked.
“It will help keep us out of trouble because Julietta didn’t tell us about her intentions anyway,” Elliot replied.
“Then how do we get a hold of Julietta herself?” Emile asked. “How do we know that she’s safe?”
