Chapter 26: A Shock for Emile

“I think you should just focus on your schoolwork for now,” Raine responded to Julietta’s question.

“That sounds dull and uninspiring,” Julietta responded.

“It makes sense because working on something like this can be very unpredictable,” Raine remarked. “What if you find that you have to escape and leave home suddenly?”

“That sounds hectic, but can’t I work my way around that?” Julietta asked. “Can’t I find a way to deal with something like that at the time?” she continued.

“Just a minute, I think there are people watching us up the road,” Raine said suddenly, looking into the rearview mirror.

Julietta turned around immediately and looked behind her.

“It’s my friend, Emile’s vehicle,” she stated. “He must be searching for me because we were going to meet at the lake, but he didn’t show up there.”

“I wonder if he reported you as ‘missing’ to your parents?” Rain asked with a concerned expression on his face.

“He might have,” Julietta replied.
