At the boundary of dawn, Zai flew low over the front line to avoid enemy radar, carrying Lieutenants Eota and Finn in one hand, and her sword in the other.
Keeping her ability to fly a secret from the enemy had been an extremely narrow proposition over the last five years. Today, she expected the secret would be out.
Her armor was pitch black because she willed it to be so, but aside from the color, Zai hadn't wanted to risk modifying it over the last five years. She also assumed Shenmi, the woman who'd given her the armor, had a reason for giving it to her as it was. But if Zai was being absolutely honest with herself, she didn't want to risk losing her ability to fly.
The precious silence with only the wind made her truly feel like the Dawnraven, the mythical Jinwu, here to restore the sun.
As she flew, Zai surveyed the cratered landscape below.
