Retake and Repair

Venator arrived back near the square, standing on a burning building's roof, he looked down at the shield walls.

In the distance, the last fighters were already running away, out of the burning capital they were once attacking.

The battle was won, despite the vast number of fighters, Bellunamien's people and Venator have held on.

He climbed back down to the square, the man awaited him with a few other soldiers.

"Excellent work. We managed to push out the enemy, by now there's none to be seen so i suppose you drove them off?" Venator nodded his head in response.

"The only issue we have now is repairing what was broken, and extinguishing the fires around us." The General explained.

"I can try to fix that." Venator replied, the general's eyes widened.

"How so?" Venator walked towards one of the burning buildings. Tiringly he sent a stream of ice towards it, slowly the ice began consuming the entire house.

"This is probably one of the only times I'm showing my magic to a whole bunch of normal people. But i do need to adhere what the god ordered." Venator thought as the building was now enveloped in a thin layer of ice, charred but extinguished.

The general looked shocked by what unfolded in front of him, an entire building extinguished in just a few seconds.

"By Bellunamien, that is just impressive!" He yelled.

"Very well, the last task for this day is to help extinguish the remaining fires. We have food prepared for the people seeking refuge." The general explained.

"The food would provide more energy, suppose i still have enough to continue with the rest of the city." He pondered.

"Very well." Venator finally agreed. Turning around, he yelled orders at archers and soldiers standing from the top, looking down at them. Quickly they began descending down.

The soldiers formed lines behind the General, awaiting his orders.

"With Venator here, a pardoned mage, you will provide aid in extinguishing the fires. The rest will begin sweeping the areas to find any remaining enemies. You can get water from the canal once it's been scouted. Venator, start extinguishing the homes near to us." The General gave his order.

"Oh," The General spoke once more, stopping Venator in his tracks, "I'll escort you, to see the damages sustained and to keep watch in case any ill willed soldiers will attempt something."

Silently agreeing to the order, Venator walked to another burning building, pieces of burning wood fell from the top while it burned.

Venator's hands were filled with a cloud of cold frost, but Venator couldn't feel much pain from it as the stream of ice flowed towards the burning building. The archers took sight at the extinguished building in front of them, most did their tasks while a small few stared at Venator in disgust.

He began walking around, the General tailed behind him, halting any soldier that began approaching Venator.

"You flooded the roads with fire, fortunately our shields managed to withstand it while the enemy outside burned. Well done, we might have severely crippled their army." The General congratulated while Venator continued extinguishing.

Venator felt more fatigued, dizzy, and slower in moving.

He made his way farther away from the square, circling around each building as he continued his task. More soldiers ran around carrying filled water buckets as they tried putting out house after house.

Soon, after an hour, Venator extinguished the final home near the destroyed walls. Lines of soldiers stood on every breach seen, their shields facing the front.

Venator raised his hand, in one snap, the ice everywhere around the city shattered all at once, leaving piles of shards in their wake. The General looked at the now revealed homes, destroyed and charred without an ice layer.

"The homes are destroyed, but they can be repaired. The damage to the walls exceeded our expectations, wonder what caused that much destruction to them." The General questioned himself, looking at the hole ridden walls.

"Could you still seal the walls?"

Quickly, Venator began sealing each hole, expending more and more of his already diminishing energy. Soldiers parted and looked in amazement as the breaches were sealed in ice.

He circled around the city one final time, sealing off the last breaches and broken gates.

"That's the last problem we had, follow me Venator."

Venator took a few steps forward, suddenly, he stumbled down, now barely conscious as exhaustion hit him quickly.

The General quickly placed Venator's arm on his back, he yelled out to a few footmen, quickly they joined in helping him bring the barely conscious mage.

The small group of soldiers cleared small patch of ground near railing as they lay Venator on it. He began leaning onto it, staring at the civilians and soldiers.

The General handed him a cup of water while he still sat upright on the railing.

Venator drank the entire cup, finishing its contents as he became more conscious.

"Gave me quite a fright there Venator, thought we were about to lose what would be our first mage in the Bellunamien army." The General laughed, sitting down with him.

Venator placed the cup on the side, a soldier took it away immediately.

"Here." The General handed Venator a piece of bread. Like the water, he began wolfing it down, feeling a small amount of energy return to him.

The place was still packed with people, more staying inside the cathedral inside.

The area was lit up with candle light as night came above.

"There's more bread and water on a table just over there." The General said, pointing towards a large table standing in front of the Cathedral, lines of people awaiting food and water waited for their turn as a pair of soldiers handed them out.

"Can you still move with your wounds?" The General asked.

"Yeah, just have to rest for now." Venator quickly replied.

"Perhaps I can present you to the king later when things have settled." The General continued.

The city down below was only partially illuminated with torches, the smell of charred wood filled, soldiers wandered around the quiet battleground, removing bodies of the dead.
