Julie James

Jaxon sat behind his desk, his feet up and a cigarette between his lips, idly watching the smoke spiral toward the ceiling, still wondering how he would gain those 5 points.

After shaking his thoughts about going to the pub, once again he was back to square one.

Sure, looking at it one way, those 5 points weren't hard to gain but when one started looking at the logistics behind the points, that was troublesome on its own.

He would need to first find new people whom he hadn't gained a point from before, then he would have to get acquainted with them, gain their trust, and do the exact thing that'll make them respect him, or he would have to save them from a situation where he would be a vital part of their life's chapter or give them a life-altering experience that'd stick with them forever.

Each required time, luck, and effort to harvest the points from people, which was an extremely bothersome task, just thinking about how he managed to gain all these points made him sweat.

But as if lady luck was on his side the knock on the door broke his thoughts as he turned towards the door, "Come in"

Two young women entered his office they looked extremely anxious and pale, the blonde one had an arrogant attitude to her, as she looked around his office, judging it while on the other hand, the brunette seemed much calmer and humble, as she headed straight towards him dragging her friend along with her.

"Are you Jaxon, the private detective?" The brunette was the first to speak as she asked,

Jaxon eyed them warily, flicking the ash from his cigarette into a nearby tray. "Yeah, that's me. What can I do for you ladies?"

"I am Julie James and this is Helen Shivers," The brunette introduced herself and her friend.

The blonde girl named Helen nervously glanced at Julie before pulling a business card from her purse. One look was all it took for Jaxon to confirm that it was his card.

She placed it on the desk in front of him. "We got this from my sister..."

Jaxon raised an eyebrow but said nothing, waiting for them to continue.

"We need your help," Julie interjected, her voice trembling. "Someone is stalking us, entering into our houses and leaving threatening notes, he even ran over our friend-"

Jaxon leaned back, his curiosity piqued, "Calm down take a deep breath,"

"Do you need a glass of water?" He asked but Julie shook her head,

"Take a seat then," he pointed at the chairs in front of his desk as he kept his foot down from his desk and put out his cigarette, "Now let's take things slow."

"Let's start with something simple, who are you guys, are you locals or visiting?"

"We both live here, I am just back home from my college break." Julie said, "And she-"

"I live here, don't you know my sister?" Helen asked,

"I know a lot of people's sisters by that definition but I am not too familiar with everyone in the town, but I am sure it must've been recent as it hasn't been long since I distributed those cards." Jaxon said, "Now since I have been honest with you in that regard, let's continue the same level of honesty moving forward."

"You said you were being threatened, do you have any clue in regards to who they are or even why they would do something like that."

Helen and Julie exchanged a look, their silence speaks volumes. They weren't ready to divulge the whole truth, at least not yet.

"I see, so it seems you both have certain ideas regarding those questions," Jaxon said crossing his fingers, "So your friend who got ran over you said... did he see the perpetrator or is he dead?"

"He is still alive and no he didn't see the guy but he could tell by his build that he was a man." Julie shook her head, "The police are already involved in finding who the guy is but... let's just say they have chalked it up to an accident."

Jaxon nodded as he couldn't help but let out a smile, "Can I see the notes?"

"What?"

"The threatening notes, you said the perpetrator broke into your homes and left you with."

"We didn't bring them," Helen spoke first before Julie could do or say something,

"As of right now, I am not sure why you went out your way to look for me, but since you're both here I am sure you have something you need me to do, that you don't even trust the police with." Jaxon said stretching his arms, "I don't normally take these kinds of jobs but for you pretty girls, I'll make a solid exception."

"I charge 30$ by the hour, so let's stop kicking around the bush and tell me what you're really looking for me to do."

Both the girls looked at one another one more time before finally speaking, "We want you to look into a person, David Egan, and his family members, and inform us if they are acting suspicious."

"Or any known associates of his."

"Davin Egan..." Jaxon wrote down the name, "You want me to just look into them, or look into whether this man or his family members are the ones stalking you? And define what you would consider suspicious."

"..."

"I'll look into both those things." Jaxon nodded, rolling his eyes, "Leave me your contact information and I'll see what I can do."

After writing down their numbers, both the girls stood up to leave as Jaxon kept his feet back at the desk again, leaving them a final words of wisdom he could provide, "I do offer protection services, so you can call me if anything goes wrong."

Julie looked back at him with a small smile nodding as they opened the door and left in a hurry.

"The charge would go up by 50$ an hour though." Jaxon yelled making sure the girls heard it, "Lady luck truly seems to be on my side."

Jaxon couldn't help but let out a laugh as he began analyzing all the information that had been provided to him, "Let's see, someone out there is stalking and threatening these girls and their friends, so it's more than just two of them."

"With how the perpetrator tried to run over one of their friends, which is a fact that I'll have to verify, I can at least deduct for now that the guy means his threats, not to mention the fact their friend is still alive, so the perpetrator might be a bit psychopathic or have some really deep grudge against these people for him to play with his kill."

"Not to mention, the time he took to jump from breaking and entering to nearly killing someone was way too quick, with the way thing are escalating, it might not be long before he stops playing his game and heads for the kill.

It didn't take a detective to know that these girls were still hiding things, but the real question was why would they hide it. Normally, in these types of situations, most people would go to the police or have them come over, explain everything that's been happening to them in detail, and then point out a possible list of suspects.

"That would've made things way easier for them and the police, but it seems they have a reason to hide all this information." Jaxon lit up another cigarette as he tapped his finger on the desk, "Hmm, so it's either the girls and their friends are truly innocent, or they're clearly hiding something."

"But the real question is should I just do the job or investigate further..." Jaxon smiled letting out smoke from his lips, "Maybe I can finally rack up some points with this."

The movie is: I know what you did last summer!
