What we know

Rick went over to the hospital and met Dr. Khattar. The doctor took Rick to the research lab in the hospital. On the table was the zombie they had found. It had been cut open and there was several doctors standing around it discussing what they had found.

"So Doc what do we know so far?" (Rick)

"Very little I am afraid to say. From what we can tell is that it is a mutation of the virus. It appears to make the infected more feral, and caused the body to change. The more obvious changes, being the height, arm and leg length. The others are the teeth, every tooth has become razor sharp and pointed. The nails on its hands have also become pointed. And we believe in exchange for speed it gave up strength. The leg muscles are similar to that of a sprinter, but the upper body seems to have muscle atrophy. We also noticed bone fractures all over when we did a full body scan. So they may have become weaker due to being elongated" (Dr. Khattar)

"That is not a little Doc. Did you find out what caused the change?" (Rick)

"What we know compared to what we don't know, is only a small amount. We don't have enough staff specialized in genetics or viruses. It will be very hard but we need to try and find more people specialized in this. The CDC may be a good place to check. Also I know this is crazy to ask, but if we ever encounter another mutated one we need to capture it alive. We can only learn so much from them after they have been put down. The most important part of researching these things will be studying the brain. But it is impossible to do after the brain has been destroyed." (Dr. Khattar)

"And to answer your second question. We have no idea what caused the change, or if it will ever happen again. You see this happen in nature, species change. They will evolve, mutate, or have defects that will stand out. There is no way of knowing how it happened, without knowing what caused all of this in the first place." (Dr. Khattar)

"Alright just do what you can, and make a list of the people we need. I will do what I can to find them. Just a question though, we have all kinds of medical books. Could we train people that may have an aptitude for it? (Rick)

"We could train people but it will take time, a lot of time. Rick I want to say one more thing about this thing. This zombie is fast and normally human beings or animals that are this fast would have limited stamina, but these things don't appear to ever get tired. This means it is unlikely you will be able to outrun it." (Dr Khattar)

Rick thought about what the Doctor had just told him. He knew that from now on he would have to make sure everyone was extra cautious.

"Thanks Doc, we will be careful." (Rick)

When Rick came out of the hospital Maggie, Glenn, and Michonne were waiting for him. They had a few questions for him, and wanted him to meet the new group of arrivals.

The new arrivals all greeted Rick but the only ones that really stood out, were the ones from the quarry. There was Dale Horvath, the sisters Andrea and Amy, Ed Peletier his wife Carol and their daughter Sophia, Morales and his wife Miranda and his kids Louis and Eliza, Jim, T-Dog, and Jacqui. Rick greeted each one, and asked them how they liked the place. Everyone said they loved it and it was the first time since everything started they felt safe. Rick noticed that Ed and his wife Carol were a little distant. He also noticed what appeared to be fresh bruises on Carol and Sophia. Having knowledge of the series he knew that Ed was beating them and possibly more with Sophia. He would have Merle take care of him as soon as possible. He knew that man was cancer and he wasn't going to leave him there to grow.

Rick invited everyone to the banquet room that night for a dinner and have a good time. He noticed Amy making eyes at Glenn. Glenn was completely oblivious, so Rick knew he would have to help Glenn out.

Rick was talking to Maggie as they walked back to their place. Once they got inside he told her about what happened with Sasha. He explained everything to her and hoped Maggie wasn't upset. Sasha was very useful and he would hate for there to be any tension.

"I am not that upset about it, and I will talk to her about it." (Maggie)

"Alright I have to help get everything ready for tonight." (Rick)

Later that night after the party everything was wrapping up. Rick felt like everyone was much closer now. He had made sure Glenn talked to Amy and gave them a few task to handle to help out before the party. After a few drinks he noticed they had slipped away together, much to Andreas dismay. Rick had to calm her down, and explain they were both adults and she was safe in the compound.

Rick told everyone to have a good night as he left with Maggie. They both fell asleep pretty fast. The next day Rick woke up early and started to get ready to head back to the city. He decided to bring Michonne with him.

Once back in the city Rick met with Shane, and Carl. Carl was pretty much the hero of the camp after everyone heard how he saved Shane. Rick asked everyone to get together to carry out the next phase of the plan.

"Everyone here is our next job. We're taking over the power plant." (Rick)
