The Power Plant

Rick explained to everyone what would be needed, and gave everyone specific roles. They would attack the power plant later that day. It took two hours to get everyone and everything ready. Originally Rick was only bringing a handful of people, but after seeing the variant at the Walmart. He knew he would need more in case they met another one.

Rick and his people arrived at the power plant after traveling for about two hours. Most of the time getting there was spent making sure they had a secure route back to base. Rick had brought around ninety people and had them set up at each of the three doors.

Once everyone was in position and the choke points were set up he rang the dinner bell. He had his people playing loud music inside the entrance of the doors. Then people with shields and spears were set up to mow down any walkers that came outside, as well as protect their backs in case in walkers showed up from outside the plant.

The first few walkers came out and moved towards the shield wall. The air was palpable and tensions were high. The walkers got to the shields and started smashing themselves against it, then stab and thunk. The walkers would hit the floor, after the first few more and more began to spew out. The doors and the choke points slowed them down, but there was still over a hundred coming out of each door.

Rick was not worried, at this point they could easily kill a thousand at each door. He was worried about what was inside, and why there was so many. Michonne suggested that it was because there was equipment still running inside and it made a lot of noise. Rick was just concerned there would be another variant.

The shield wall at the choke point was holding up, the men working it would take turns and switch out. It took almost a whole hour before the walkers began to thin out and less and less came from inside.

Rick then ordered the entry crew to get ready. They would have a few people with the shields up front and would clear the building room by room. There were three teams that would split up and enter each door. Rick would lead one team with Jim from the survivor camp, Daryl, and Sasha. They had a few other survivors with them. Xiang Fe led the other team. He had T-Dog, Michonne, and a few of the normal survivors. The last group was led by Shane, he had Merle, Andrea, Morales, and a few of the normal survivors. Rick had told the survivors from the quarry that if they wanted to be a part of his group they had to contribute. The only one who had not stepped up was Ed. Rick told himself after this was done Ed would be handled.

The three groups entered, each at a different door. It was very dark inside and smelled very bad. Rick's group came in through the main entrance and they were quietly walking down the hall. Everyone had night vision goggles on. The first group of rooms they came up to were offices. The first room had three walkers in it that were standing around. The walkers were easily put down when Rick stabbed on threw the head. Daryl took one out with his crossbow. And Jim hit the last one with a machete.

The groups slowly cleared the building while dispatching any walkers they came across. Two of the groups actually managed to meet up. Shane and Xiang Fe had met up when their two paths converged. They decided to continue on together. The power plant had a lot of equipment that was still running making it very loud inside. As the groups moved forward they came across more and more walkers. It was a slow process but the extra precaution had kept everyone alive so far.

Rick's group was heading upstairs and continued to clear each room. In one of the rooms that looked like an office and a bedroom. The walkers were crowded around a door beating on it. There was six of them in the room. The group snuck behind them and quickly put them down. Rick went to open the door the walkers were trying to get into, while Sasha and Daryl held their weapons ready for whatever may pop out.

Rick opened the door and inside was a man and child. The man appeared to be about forty years old and the boy was around ten. They were a father and son. The father was a man named Ron and his son was Alex. When Rick had found them they were both almost unconscious. Ron explained how he had brought his son Alex to work for a career day. Ron ran the whole power plant and had worked there since he was eighteen. Alex was a bright boy and was part of a lot of school clubs and groups. One of the reason they survived for almost a whole month locked in Ron's office, was because Alex was selling different snacks for school to raise money for his student counsel. There was two boxes of candy bars and a box of beef jerky. Ron had them ration them out. The sink in the bathroom still worked so they had plenty of water. Ron told them that two days prior the walkers finally broke through his door so they had locked themselves in his bathroom.

Rick told Ron about everything that happened. Ron quickly became sad as he realized his wife had probably died.

"If you live in the city we can check your house on the way back. But for now we need to keep moving." (Rick)

Rick brought the two new additions with him and cleared the rest of the upper floor. Having Ron with them was a great addition. He was familiar with everything and knew the best ways to go. They quickly met up with the other group and continued to clear the rest of the plant.

At the bottom floor where the main control unit for the entire power plant was. The three groups were slowly progressing there. They were encountering more and more walkers and had to stop and wipe them out. After three hours since they met up the groups finally made it there. Rick asked Ron why the power stopped working everywhere, when it appeared half the machines were still working.

Ron explained that the plant ran on hydro electric generators that came off the river. The best he could come up with was that something must of happened to them. The group made their way to the room where the generators were. Once there they saw what had happened. There was a huge wad of walkers that had somehow become clogged up together in the water ways for the generators.

"We will have to get them out if we want power to return to the city."(Ron)

"Alright everyone lets get to it."(Rick)

It took the group well into the night to clean out all of the walkers. They had to carefully kill each one. While pulling their bodies out of the water ways. It was dangerous and slow work but the groups got it done.

Once the water started to flow back in. The generators started to spin up. Ron walked over to the control panels and flipped a giant breaker switch. There was a loud electric noise and all of the lights came back on in the plant. Then over the radio Rick was told the street lights were back on.

Rick left the power plant with everyone. He had left behind enough people behind to secure and defend the place. He brought Ron and Alex with him. He knew Ron would be very important into keeping the power plant running and training people to work there.

After showing the father and son to their rooms, Rick went into his to take a shower and relax. Rick was now laying down in his bed.

"Sir may I make a suggestion." (Hermes)

"What is it Hermes?"(Rick)

"Sir it has been one year and three months since you have returned to your world. I believe it would be beneficial for you to go back, I have some updates I want to share with you. It will be easier to show you them in person." (Hermes)

Rick did not realize it had been so long. He knew he was here for a while but he has been so busy it just slipped his mind.

"Alright Hermes lets go back." (Rick)
