Danger for Three

While walking, he noticed that the buildings didn't seem that much different than the ones back home, but he still felt like he wasn't close to home at all. Wherever he was, it must've been what he was looking for. One thing did bother him, why were there no people? No one was walking on the streets, it was just him, alone. Even stranger, no cars were around either. The roads were completely empty. Even the street he walked on sounded different, almost as if it was hollow. However unnerved he might have been, the desire for answers and guidance kept him moving. The described building wasn't far away, he reached it fairly quickly. The building was beautiful and regal, and even better on the inside.

Upon entering, he noticed two guards at the doors, but they weren't armed. A building such as this should be very guarded, but alas, Flynn didn't care too much. He handed the card to the person at the front desk. She examined it and walked away. There was no door, but Flynn still couldnt see what was going on on the other side. Looking around at the building, he noticed a strange lack of people there too. Only the guards and the woman at the desk. Otherwise the building was quite nice, a quaint color that was easy on the eyes and a soothing feeling in the air. The woman came back shortly with a small device in hand. She examined the card closer and turned the device on. It emitted a purple light. She gave the card back to Flynn and told him to go to the fourth floor. Flynn hesitated for a second, but walked away anyway. It was strange that she didn't even give him a room to enter, but alas, maybe she knew the place better than him. Flynn instinctively tried to grab the rail and almost tripped because of it.

He reached the first floor and looked around, he knew this wasn't his destination, but he looked anyway. It was just a long hallway, one that seemed to go on forever. Worse yet, it looked like it grew narrower. The hallway only had dim lights on the ceiling and the occasional potted plant, which Flynn noticed to be fake. The state of the hallway was perfect, no grime or dirt to be seen. The simple design on the walls and the nice carpet invited the eye to look around, but there was nothing to look at. The utter simplicity intrigued him, but the hallway itself terrified him. Like an old friend greeting you with a smile, waiting to stab you in the back. Flynn shuddered and continued upwards.

The second floor was the same. Another hallway, a seemingly perfect copy of the first one. Only that one light seemed broken, it flickered with a slight noise. He continued upwards.

The third floor was different, but in no way better. A short corridor leading to a door, dangling on its hinges. He couldn't see inside, but he was sure he didn't want to. The small corridor was similar in design as the others, yet somehow this one didn't call his urges to explore, it told him to go away. He had no problems with obliging.

His destination, the fourth floor, was again different from the last. No hallway, no corridor, just a door. A normal door. There was nothing wrong with it, yet it scared him the most. He looked around the staircase he was in, but there was nothing, no windows or decorations, just nothing. None of it seemed right to Flynn at all, but this was where he was told to go. He had nowhere else to go, he didn't know where he was. He grasped the handle of the door and twisted.

The door opened, and inside was an office room. Something fitting for a CEO, perhaps. He walked in and examined the furniture closer. All of it was high quality, even the plants were real. The door slowly closed itself behind Flynn, but he didn't notice in his interest. There were no windows here either, just one more door. In front of the desk there was a chair. Before he could sit down, he noticed a note on the desk. He took it and sat down to read it.

It read: "If you're reading this, then I ought to be there soon. Make yourself comfortable and wait, we'll bring something you'll like." Flynn read it again, and again. Was this from Raine? It seemed so odd. He had a strange feeling about the building, even the town itself, but this just took it higher. He read the note again. "If you're reading this, then we ought to be there soon. Make yourself comfortable and wait, we'll bring something you'll like." Flynn's stomach turned and he felt sweat dripping down his face.

Why… why did it say we? It didn't say that the first time he read it, he was sure. Raine never mentioned anyone else, so why this? He stood up and turned back, but the door was closed. He tried turning the handle but it didn't nudge. His heart beat faster, he looked at the other door. It would be foolish to go further in the building. He tried to move the door with all the force he could muster, all for nought. Soon faint footsteps could be heard approaching the other door. His heart rate grew faster as the steps came closer. He froze as someone turned the handle. The door opened and his hand trembled on the handle. From behind the door emerged Raine, and that man from before! Flynn couldn't believe it.
