40 The war is only about to start

The letter sent by king Luther gave me a scare. I didn't know if I should tell Torren about it or Just let nature take it's course. I was staring at the paper when Torren's voice interrupted me. "My lady are you okay". I quickly turned around to see Torren. "Yes I'm fine. Never been better" I responded as I smartly hid the box under the bedsheets. "Well, you look to me like someone who just had an encounter with the devil himself"

"Hey, come on now Torren, that's not a very nice way to compliment your wife who has missed you very much" I said and smiled seductively.

"Diana you know, you always have a way of seducing me wife. You're not scared of me anymore?"

"No. Not anymore my lord. I'm not scared of you, one bit" saying that, Torren pulled me close to him seductively and kissed me on the forehead, then on the cheeks and finally on my neck. I loved the soft kisses.

"Now it's over, can I have my husband?"

"Of course".

We made love that night. No, it was more than just making love, we slept together as husband and wife. It's been so long.

The next morning, we had a visitor. It was Freya. She didn't seem like trouble. Kahlan let her in and sent for me and my husband. As soon as we walked in, she went on her knees.

"I know I've betrayed you lady Diana, king Torren, I have been nothing but bad luck to you and your kingdom. I'm so so sorry, please forgive me" their was sincere tears in her eyes "I was so dumb and stupid. Call me whatever you want to call me, I deserve it. And I deserve whatever punishment you put on me. As long as you forgive me. Please Diana".

"Why did you do it Freya? Freya you are my best friend, my sister. I trusted you. Why did you betray me like this" tears had also filled up my eyes.

"I'm sorry. That was the only way I could save myself. Queen Qarinah hunted me down after you got married. She was going to kill me and whoever I loved. I didn't know what I was doing. I honestly regret everything that I've done. I only realized what I've done to you just two days ago and I couldn't come forward to face you. I'm sorry Diana. Really sorry".

I looked at lord Torren to pass a judgment but he clearly wanted me to handle Freya myself. "I forgive you. But I never want to see you in Darca again or anywhere close to Darca. You're an intruder here". I said, I didn't want to trust her again and get betrayed by her a second time.

"Yes my lady. My Lord please I only have one request to make of you"

Lord Torren stared at her for sometime "let me hear it" he said.

"Erase my memories. I don't know how I'll be able to live with myself knowing what I've done. I can't live like this. Please erase my memories so I can live a new life. Please" Freya begged.

After a while, Lord Torren granted her request and made her slowly vanish. I didn't quite understand what happened "you didn't kill her did you?" I asked.

"No. She'll never remember you or any of the events that has happened. I sent her off to somewhere new and far".

I smiled. I missed my best friend but there was nothing else I could do. Like Aurora said. The weakness in my heart is the reason I'm always betrayed.

That same day, lord Torren told me he'd be away for seven days. He said he was on a secret mission with sir Owen. Just the two of them.

"I promise I'll be back as soon as possible and when I come back, we'll have a new and whole life to live" he said to me before he left.

As soon as he left, I thought to myself to also leave. That'll make it easier. I had to seal my deal with Luther. I didn't want it to happen but I had to go to him. Luther could kill Torren any minute as he had induced him with his control portion during his treatment. I recalled the stories Torren had told me about Luther. So yes, he sure keeps to his promise. And he never says what he does not mean and will not do. I'm sure Torren will find love again, I mean he has hundreds of years ahead of him and I can't even be in it with him. I finally convinced myself before I sneaked out that night. Nobody knew I was gone, not even Kahlan. I dropped a note for Kahlan which read I'm so sorry I had to leave like this but then I really need to spend time with my family. My stepmother wants to make up for everything she has done to me. I'll be back soon. Diana. I had completely lied but that was one way of keeping Kahlan out of my tracks.

I left for Draven that night. It took me only a day to arrive there as one of king Luther's guards met me even before I got to the woods. King Luther knew I was coming and so he sent out his guard to bring me as quickly as possible. We went through a portal that landed us in king Luther's castle.

"Welcome wifey" king Luther said in open arms, smiling like he always did.

"I know you only want me, just so you can tear Torren apart. Believe me Luther, Torren will come for me at the right time."

"Let's have breakfast together shall we?" He said completely ignoring my threat. Well, I knew I could do nothing so I had to respect him to avoid his wrath.

After seven days, Torren returned to Darca. He met Kahlan who had been worried about me since I left. She had sent words to Tron but Louisa didn't seem to have seen me. Torren came back so excited.

"Hey Kahlan, how are you today?" He asked cheerfully when Kahlan and Ingrid met them.

"You seem so happy my lord. What is going on?" She asked.

"Nothing much. Just love." He responded and walked into the castle to find me.

"What's wrong with him?" Kahlan asked sir Owen.

"Sshhh. Lord Torren is mortal now. We went on to meet Aphrodite who helped him become mortal. She owed him a favor and now it's repaid"

"What?, why will he do that?"

"All for lady Diana's sake. He wants to live and die..." Before Owen could finish, Kahlan rushed after lord Torren. He was already looking all over the castle for me.

"My lord?" Kahlan called out.

"Oh yes Kahlan. I can't seem to find my wife. Where's she?"

"She, she said she was going to Tron but since then, I've not heard anything from her. Louisa has not seem her either. For seven days now".

This really got Torren. He asked lord Magnus to prepare a search party "we are going to find my wife".

It had dawned on Kahlan that Diana must be in Draven when she found the box from Luther. She couldn't tell Torren but after 3 days of unsuccessful search, she had to open up. Torren was preparing to leave that morning when she walked up to him and his men.

"There is no need searching for her my lord. I know where she is".

"Where?"

"In Draven... With Luther....as his wife"
