Test Run Arc 04 Compromise

Characters:

Matt

Avenger

Matt POV

For the second… no third time today I woke up from unconsciousness.

I immediately got up and looked around.

No sign of that skeleton anywhere which is a good thing in my book.

What I saw instead was a destroyed landscape with some fire around, cracks on the floor and a very large crater no to far away.

What the hell happened here?

I then looked down to see Avenger unconscious on the floor.

It seems that the special attack ran out, probably draining her of all her magic.

Seeing that I had a moment to myself I started to contemplate my situation right now.

So in the end I survived.

Despite all the dangers and close calls I'm still here, I'm still alive.

I should be happy, glad or anything positive in my situation.

But I wasn't and not long after I started crying.

Yep me, a grown ass adult started crying and sobbing.

This was too much, this was all too much for me to handle.

I took a phone out of my pocket ready to call Fate Sans and tell him to get me out of here. I didn't want to stay here. I don't want to die again.

I went to the contacts with his name on it.

But before I could contact him, I recalled our conversation that we had.

Specifically the part of why I was chosen.

FLASHBACK

"As much as this all seems crazy and unbelievable, why am I here?"I asked in confusion.

"You are here as an experiment," he said.

"…what?"

"I was bored and thought of doing something fun. So I brought you here and gave you that system to see what you will do."

"You brought me back to life, gave me a system because you were bored?"

"Yep" he grinned even wider if it was even possible.

FLASHBACK END

Fate Sans' response to my question was that this was all an experiment.

Which meant only one thing.

I was expendable.

Who is to say that I was the first person that he brought here or if I will be the last one.

If I make this phone call would he even help me?

Now that I think about it, do I even trust him?

Looking back at our interaction he practically gave me an ultimatum, either I take the role of AU protector or I would be left on my own.

I have no knowledge about this place or anyone that could help me in this situation.

This all might be one big messed up test to see if I succeed or not.

He might even be watching me right now waiting to see if I give up right here right now.

I was so scared right now.

I'm all alone and there was no one that I could count on.

What should I do?

"Why are you crying?"

I immediately looked up to Avenger standing on her feet, though it did look like she was struggling to do so.

Her shirt had a few holes on her stomach and I think I know why.

But that's besides the point. It looks like I was so deep in my thoughts that I didn't notice that she woke up.

I quickly rubbed my tears away.

"It's nothing" I replied embarrassed that someone saw me cry.

"Oh yes, an adult crying and sobbing like a child is nothing," she said, not believing me.

'Why did my first servant have to be an Avenger?' I thought to myself.

She had been treating me with much malice ever since we met.

Though now that I think about it, that is to be expected of an Avenger servant.

Also she is definitely angry with me by using the command seals on her, but considering she hasn't killed me because of that it's a win in my book.

But now that I think about it. She is just like me right now. I'm practically a slave to Fate Sans and she probably thinks that she's my slave. In a way she is right, once I regain some command seals and use them it's over for her.

I guess that's the real reason for her being so malicious towards me.

To her I'm the bad guy. I kind of feel stupid for not realizing this just now. This isn't FGO, nor is this a game, this is real life.

But what's important right now is how I deal with her.

If I want to have any chance of surviving any of this then she and I need to make a compromise.

"Look," I said, gaining her attention.

"I know that you don't like me and probably hate me".

I gestured to myself.

"You want answers and I have them, but only after we survive this ordeal."

"I doubt we have much time to survive" She said causing me to give her a confused look, "That skeleton escaped before I could finish the job. I don't know how much time we have until he comes back."

That skeleton was still alive! Oh shit!

I quickly got up, "We need to leave now!"

"I still want my answers".

"Now is not the time for that! We need to get somewhere safe. He could come back here at any time to finish us off!."

I knew that I was kinda pushing my luck by trying to get her to see how bad our situation is, but she needed to hear this.

"I mean look at you!"

I gestured to her.

"You used up all your magic and are struggling to stand up right now!"

She looked away scowling, but didn't say anything back.

Seeing that I managed to convince her I needed to set the compromise.

"I want us to make a compromise or deal, but first we need to leave here and find a safe place."

She was silent for a moment until giving me a small nod.

"Thank you" I said, relieved that she agreed and is cooperating now.

I put the phone back in my pocket and looked back at her.

"Do you need any help?" I asked as she obviously needed more time to rest.

She turned around to look at me and gave me the middle finger before turning around and walking towards the destroyed entrance to the ruins.

Oh well, at least she isn't threatening me anymore.

At least I hope not.
