Chapter 35 : Discoveries

“I don’t believe you,” I said, staring up at the wolf that I had never met before today.
The words were out of my mouth before I could even think of them. But I stood by what I said. This woman was not my mother, she could not be my mother. My mother was dead.
She died of a sickness that no one was able to name. There were wolves that saw her sicken and die. Wolves that I lived with, and wolves that told me her story. Too many of them to have agreed to lie about it.
If that wasn’t true, then I would have known about it before now. It would have come out, somehow, in some way. Even if someone had just whispered it in the walls of the Fortress. Her words just didn’t make any sense. Not if they were assumed to be the truth. But if they were lies, then there were a thousand reasons for them.
